Volta a Catalunya 2016 (March 21th - 27th)

Well, guys, it is time for Volta a Catalunya! The race has 7 stages with 2 mountain stages, who finish uphill. It will be exciting to see who will become first and raise his arms as the overall winner in Barcelona on March 27th.

THE LINE-UP
The line-up for the race is interesting. Chris Froome (however notice that it is his first race in Europe this year), Nairo Quintana and Alberto Contador are here to win! But Fabio Aru and the defending champion Richie Porte will also fight and try to win. There are also some interesting names as Joaquim Rodriguez, Geraint Thomas, Rigoberto Uran, Mathias Frank, Romain Bardet, Tom Dumoulin, Ryder Hejsedal and more!

There are also some sprinters here. Nacer Bouhanni, who just got fourth in MSR, is here, too! A rider who beat him in that sprint is Ben Swift. And guess what - he is here too!

The full (provisional) startlist:

That is a very strong startlist indeed. A lot of strong GC riders are here.

Stage 3 and 4 look interesting, let's hope for some exciting racing!

Froome wins of course! Will be interesting to see, who they are number two Wink

It is kinda interesting that 'the shadow or what he was' is going up against the barely raced (frigging about in Argentina or Oz against local buggers don't count) Froome-bot and Quasimodo Quintana.

I rather fancy one of BMC bland brigade to upset GT winners here.

Hesjedal rejoining US Postal shoot off - say what they hell when did that happen? Smile

hmm.. i barely wait to see aru in this tour of catalunya, especially vs those strong sky/tinkoff/movistar/bmc teams

Stage 4 might be in danger. Quite a lot of snow predicted, plus quite a bit of cold. Stage 3 might become decisive then.

Since it looks like it's going to be cold in the mountains, I'd say Quintana stands an excellent chance of winning.

Have to agree with Selwink that if it is that cold then Quintana wins this race

Looking forward to a nice battle whatever the outcome.

Extreme shite protocol will lead to cancelling of both mountain stages, which means that Vakoč will win the GC after his win in stage 2. Pfft

In more serious note, i say Contador.
I'll be back

Contador will certainly be one of the favourites. I can't help thinking though that he couldn't beat Thomas a couple of weeks ago at Paris-Nice. Why does everyone think he's suddenly going to win over a much tougher line up?

Tougher climbs and later in the season.
Thomas aimed for PN as he had the chance to lead there. Contador aims the GTs the most anyway, so his form should build up towards those.

That all said, I still think that if Froome wants to win, he will. Might be his first race since Herald Sun, so could say the same as with Contador obviously.

I hope both mountain stages will be okay to be raced. This should really be nice to watch then.

He could beat Turbo Thomas but the race wasn't difficult enough.

If stage 4 isn't cancelled then probably:
1.Quintana
2.Contador
3.Froome-Rodriguez
If stage 4 is cancelled then Rodriguez wins.Probably ahead of Froome and Contador

Forever the Best
In stage 3, La Molina is only 5.3km long with an average gradient of 5.8% and maximum ramps 9% but it is uphill for a little bit longer. was used in the last 2 years in Volta a Catalunya
2014 winner is Joaquin Rodriguez

2015 winner was Tejay van Garderen

In stage 4, Port-Aine climb is 18.9 km long with an average percent of %6.5 and maximum percent of %12.Port-Aine was supposed to feature as a summit finish in 2012 but due to bad weather the stage was finished at the lower slopes of Port del Canto
Port-Aine returned back in 2013 and the winner ws Daniel Martin after being in a very big break and holding off Rodriguez and Quintana by 36 seconds.
