I have to agree Gallopin riding was a bit odd, he had a team mate in the lead..

His ride made perfect sense if you actually think about it

From his point of view, yes. As a team mate, no.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

As a team mate no? the second he reached the second group on the road he stopped chasing so how exactly is he doing wrong by his team mate? Also he won the sprint for 4th so if the Wellens group had been caught he was bang on for the stage win. Looks like he played the team role perfectly

Because he is pulling two guys up to the main group, that surely will ride 100% to catch the three guys up front. He put Wellens winning chances in serious danger.

I disagree, by bringing Thomas back to the first chasing group, the chance the lead group would be caught increased. The chances of Wellens winning the stage were higher than his.

Look, I don't have a problem with Gallopin, but no matter how you turn it, from a team mate's point of view he made a poor choice.

Lets say, that Gallopin and Thomas had reached the main group a bit before, and they then together with Thomas had picked up Contador and Porte on the last few hundred meters. Yes he finished fourth, but it's a big risk to take, to help Thomas up to the main group, when you have a clear win with Wellens.

In my mind it was a supid gamble that could have gone all wrong, but in the end, it all went well for the Lotto boys.

Happy that Wellens took the stage, he always puts in a good ride.

I bet Lotto are happy he did what he did (or was told to do by his DS), so in your scenario and Thomas reached the group without Gallopin working and they catch the Wellens group and someone else takes the stage then Lotto get nothing.

But he played the TEAM role perfectly, by doing what he did he gave his team 2 chances at the stage victory, it wasn't certain that Wellens doesn't crack towards the finish as he had been out in the break and by himself for a while on the climb

Will Thomas do Giro? Thanks
Costa ~ Machado ~ Quintana ~ Gallopin

Crack? He was on a flat road/slightly downhill, against Contador and Porte. Come on, that's a bad argument.

Thomas + Henao > Contador + Majka

There is a little detail everybody is probably forgetting, and that wasn't shown on TV... There was a little split in Stage 2 in the Peloton at the finish line, and Contador was caught behind... And Thomas was in the Group ahead... Guess what the margin was? Those same 4 SECONDS!!!

Due to some skiing I havnt seen the last two stages but good talking here. I am glad that Contador is on a good way to le Tour. The day he retires cycling will lose one of its greats. Not because of his results but his fighting. No one races like Alberto.

To quote Tommy V, when Contador attacks it is scary Smile

Contador is awesome!
That is why he is the best rider of his generation.Shame that he lost by 4 seconds.
Also, what Gallopin and did was selfish and pathetic. Also Lotto's patheticness of keeping a not very important place in GC over a stage win continues.
