This is great news to me: Sporting is coming back to cycling!!! Sporting CP is joining Tavira for next year, the oldest team in pro cycling (founded in 1979) after the extinction of Kelme in 2003. After negotiations with W52 Quinta da Lixa failed (and they ending up signing with Porto) i really hope this gets real! No results expected, but this really gets me on to revive Agostinho's story!
UCI launches new Ranking System. Basically like CQ or tennis. Will start in 2016 so only be "real" after a year. Only results from last 52 weeks will count for this ranking. Not only WT events but also NC, WC, Olympics.
Maybe also Tour de France as a .1 race?

I really like this ranking, looks similar to CQ Ranking. The only weird thing about this so far is that the two Canadian WT classics are classified as "Tier 1" races, thus the same amount of points will be awarded as in the Monuments.

Well they obviously just want to encourage all the best riders to ride them and make them into races with more pedigree, there's nothing wrong with that

I think that all of you have already acknowledged that the Vuelta is also (abeit partially) organized by the ASO. And also the Canadian racesv in Montreal and Quebec are held when the Vuelta is in its climax. Well ASO said "We're out and we're taking our races with us" and UCI is like "It's on"
Bad news for Stefan Küng. Hope he will be back quickly.
"The BMC Racing Team announced today that Swiss rider Stefan Küng has had to stop his preparations for the 2016 season because of an infection with the Epstein-Barr Virus that showed up during the team's December team camp in Spain."
And another (expected) retirement, Bjorn Leukemans. Same story as De Greef, Wanty didn't want to extend his contract and he doesn't want to beg for a contract.
Tommeke's hearing got permanently damaged in his Abu Dhabi crash but other than that, he's making quick recovery and he is also said to be training well. https://www.cyclin...abi-crash/

The retirements keep coming: Kevin Seeldraeyers. The same generation of the earlier retired De Greef and Vandewalle, the 29 year old climber was once a huge talent, winning the youth jersey in the 2009 Giro d'Italia and Paris-Nice. Lately he was pretty much useless though.

Since I've been doing the stats, all I seem to be doing a lot of the time is taking out retirees. I don't remember a time from before, when so many riders seemed to retire at the end of a season.

Especially the 3 mentioned in the post above aren't at retirement age, very sad indeed.

They all could of rode on as they had offers down at Conti level but they chose retirement so I wouldn't say it's sad, I say it's a smart move by those 3 riders who instead of riding on at a much lower wage they are heading in a different direction while still being young enough to make a career change. To many Pro athletes try and hang on for to long
