Your cycling

When I was a kid, I really hated helmets. They were simply uncool. But after a friend of mine fell on his bike, sitting in his wheelchair now, whilst also being mentally challenged, I really started to wear one all the time. And he only crashed on a slight descent with 30-40kph. From that moment on, helmets probably saved me from head injuries around 50-100 times. Skiing accidents, cycling crashes, motorbike and go-kart crashes, or simply bumping my head into some kind of wall-thing(I'm pretty clumsy).
I never want to miss a helmet. I don't buy a new one, after every small incident, though. And right now, there are some pretty cool looking helmets out there, so I can buy some cool looking ones as well. Grin

So my local bike shop is having a huge sale so I thought I would buy a bike which is exactly what I did! I got a Specialized Allez C2 for 1,300 Danish kroner off of the original price! This means it only cost 4,200 kroner! Will do my first ride on it as soon as my helmet arrives. I will upload some pictures later Wink

Great entry level bike. My own Allez is just coming to the end of its life span and I've loved riding it. While I'm after an upgrade, a large part of me will be sad to see it go. Enjoy!

Here is a picture of it, already getting used to clipping in and out and it feels great!

Haha carbon copy of mine, paint job and all just a bit shinier and minus all the work mine needs doing to it Grin

It's served me very well and it's always appealed looks wise which helps to get you out in the depths of winter!

Btw the Espoir Sport tyres that come as standard are bomb proof - I've not had a single puncture in over 18 months and 12,000km just by keeping them topped up to 90-100 psi. That includes plenty of filthy winter rides and even some gravel roads along the way.

Today I rode a friend's bike after five years and a half without doing so due to a severe accident.

First feelings are great. Managed to go up some little hills and to ride a nice pace in the flats. Now I need to learn how to downhill, how to brake properly and how to control the bike well. Lots of things to do, but I hope I will improve Grin

Great stuff! GCN videos (alongside simply riding) are your learned friend.

At the opposite end of the scale my Allez just died :'(

I say died, everything's perfectly serviceable but given my plan to upgrade it's not worth investing hundreds of pounds to sort the more major jobs that now need doing.

Anyway my rear shifter has been playing up for a while (possible post crash damage nearly a year back) and gave up the ghost today. Struggled back home over geared and on to the internet I went...

Just ordered this https://www.chainr...prod127979

CR had further discounted it and, with an extra voucher I found, it means I'm going from Claris to Ultegra/105 for only around £175 more than I paid for my full price Allez. Too good a deal to turn down - hopefully it'll arrive within the next week or so.

YES!
You have been wanting the upgrade @ianrussell and the Allez finally gave you the chance, that Cube is good value and the 5800 105 group set will blow you away after what you have been using, Shimano really stepped up their game with the 11 speed grouppo's and the new 10 speed Tiagra, lighter tighter shifting and with the 11 speed they have better spacing with wider gearing. As far as Cube goes, well everything I have heard and seen says they make quality so well played buddy!

Good to hear Strydz, cheers. To get everything done on my Allez would've set me back more than the bike is worth so I couldn't resist going for a heavily discounted, lighter bike with 3 extra speeds and, of course, a nice enough paint job Grin

As much as I'd love it to turn up tomorrow it's also probably best I get a few enforced days off the bike to recuperate. Feeling a little run down but I was struggling to stay away from riding, despite knowing I really should!

I don't think I ever commented about my new bike, but given the Allez theme, might as well! The Allez was my old bike, but a car killed that, so now I've gone Carbon with Cannondale: Cannondale SuperSix EVO Carbon 105 5 2015. https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Cannondale-Su..._73595.htm

Picked it up in August, and have definitely enjoyed the step up since.

I don't have chance to ride on weekdays during the winter though, so have been looking into an indoor setup. I bought a trainer last year (Elite Crono Fluid) but didn't use it much, but have now bought a Garmin speed sensor to let me see speed/distance, and today an ANT USB sensor finally arrived (ordered 2 weeks ago), so I am going to be checking out Zwift. Looks like something that could really motivate me to use my trainer more, and it's link with Strava is quite nice too. Free trial still just on now, but I get 2 months free with Strava premium - a handy perk, given that I only have Strava premium as I forgot to unsubscribe after having a 2 month free trial on that Pfft

Looking forward to tomorrow evening to give Zwift a proper try out!

I wanted to buy that one too, but it was out of stock at my local bike shop already :'(

Looks like a great bike SN, enjoy.

With regard to Zwift I need to figure out what I require to get that working with my basic trainer. I think I just need to get an ANT+ stick for the computer (?) as I already have a Garmin with speed and cadence sensors fitted. If so let me know which one you went for.

I don't have a laptop I can use though so perhaps the bigger hurdle will be getting the bike inside to the computer - will have to be limited to when everyone else is out!

Edit - just double checked Zwift and indeed fairly sure I just need this cheapy version https://www.amazon...op?ie=UTF8

...but I don't have Windows 7 which seems to be a minimum requirement :'(

You can download Zwift even without having all the setup, and just watch others going along - would show you if it works on your PC or not.

I brought a similar cheapy ANT+ sensor, the douself one on Amazon.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go.

I tried to do my first 100k today. Sadly I failed at 94.2k. I'm so disappointed. My Neck started to hurt after 50k and I still can't move it. I hope it's nothing serious...

so it turns out that begin 2015 SSJ2Luigi is much stronger than end 2015 SSJ2Luigi, about 40 to 80 watts to be precise. :\

Be careful with it but most likely just a slight strain or sore from being in a position it's not used to being in, 94 ks is still a mighty fine ride buddy
