Yep, congrats to Morton. Fared much better than when riding there for Jaguar.

Yay! Big congrats Smile There has been some good years for Australian cycling recently. Even though this was in many ways a two-man job with Haig and Morton himself, it was great to be a part of a winning team with Watson. Thanks for having us Wink

Watson did step in quite well on the final stage, before Haig re-emerged with that decisive move!

Thanks, guys! And thanks for that info, SN. Seems like both Watson and Haig did their job, which was great to see. Always a pleasure to see some of Australia`s talents riding in Oz colours Smile

We send a huge congratulations from Festina and Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier on the well deserved win. We were happy to be there to put up a fight for the overall win and hope for many more fights for U25 jerseys in the PT peloton in the coming two seasons Smile

TALENT DEVELOPMENT 2015

Just because everyone else does..

It's pretty obvious that our team will rely on Lachlan Morton as one of our biggest riders next year. The climber, who claimed the Tour de l'Avenir just a few weeks ago, will make another step forward and will hopefully be more competitive than he was in most of the ProTour this year. Morton and Jack Haig (see picture below) already proved to be a well working duo in Avenir and Haig, who's not as far as Morton, will keep gaining key experiences on the highest level next year.

Tom Scully will be finally maxed, just like Brenton Jones as another sprinter for Oz. While Scully may become quite handy as a leadout for Goss (who's future remains uncertain though), Jones may prefer a step to (P)CT level first. Domestiques like Adam Phelan or Rhys Gillett could well stay with Oz, as they come with a decent allround package for races that include a TTT.. speaking of timetrials, Glenn O'Shea, James Oram and Alex Wohler will be back stronger as well.

QUIET IN COLOMBIA - VISCONTI SHINES IN TONE

The last two bigger stage races in the ProTour brought pretty uneven results for Oz Cycling: while Lachlan Morton wasn't at this best in the Vuelta a Colombia, our ever reliable veteran Giovanni Visconti delivered big time in the challenging Tour of Northern Europe! His podium in the final GC makes us confident to stay in the ProTour for another year at least.

Morton, who just had won the Tour de l'Avenir a few days ago, travelled to South America with both a special mental boost but - apparently - tired legs, too. Our young climber was never really in the mix for good stage results and so he had to settle for a 17th place in the final GC. That's somewhat in a region, where he finished most of his GC's this year.

The Oz had higher expectations for the TONE anyway: the TTT (where we came 2nd behind Festina), the cobbled key stage (where Visconti finished 6th, while Marcus Burghardt failed to gain valuable time), the hills (where Visconti did well, but Jack Bobridge did nothing) and the ITT (where Visconti kept his GC podium, but our specialists did nothing special). You can already read it here: Visconti did make this race a pretty good one for Oz, as his 3rd in the final GC - also spending a day in the leaders shirt (see first picture below) - may be crucial points for our team eventually.

Marcus Burghardt added a solid 11th place, as he limited the damage in both the hills and the timetrial. Still a bummer to see him losing that much time on Fabian Cancellara, who crushed the cobbled stage in style. Something, we would have loved to see from our German cobbler. Anyway, despite missing out on a stage-win, that looked achievable prior to the race, we can't complain with Visconti being so strong on all key terrains here.

Nice ride by Visconti in ToNE. It really made up for Burghardt being a bit lackluster on the cobbles. Smile

And regarding talents, you've got Morton. Who well, needs no introduction really. But he might be overshadowing some of your other riders who will be solid top-level domestiques and leadout men.

Lachlan Morton is going to be amazing. I am really looking forward to see new battles between him and Lecuisinier next season Smile - Instead of fighting for top 15s then should now be well equipped for top 10 fights, and maybe even top 5 from time to time.

Jack Haig is my favorite talent IRL, I really would love to have him in my team, so I'm very jealous of you!

Also Scully seems like a nice leadout sprinter - Too bad you don't have any top sprinters to lead out Pfft

It's concerning, yes.. Would be horrific to see him pulling an 'Intxausti' next year!

Well, I've been following Haig since three years now, so only a very good offer would make me consider a transfer Wink

Scully, yes.. I guess Goss won't ask for a train anywhere Grin Time for a change at the sprinter's front!

INVISIBLE MORTON - INVINCIBLE OZ

Two more late season classics, two very much different expectations, two very much different results: while Lachlan Morton entered the mountain killer GP Liechtenstein with maybe only a shot at the Top-15, our much anticipated Copenhagen - Malmö TTT would see our defending race champions taking part as the top favorites. It has also been one of our most important season goals (win).

Charles Anguilet (see first picture below) was part of the early break in Liechtenstein, showing Oz's colors for at least some TV time. He was one of the first to get caught by the chasing pack though. Lachlan Morton wasn't at his best and was never in the mix for a somewhat decent results - eventually climbing a tough way to a disappointing 27th place here. Definitely not his best showing.

Our TTT lineup did better in Denmark/Sweden then: while the split times promised a disastrous result (trailing by more than half a minute on the best teams), our specialists did well to bounce back in the final sector. Just like last season, where we took this event as a wildcard entry, the team delivered a stunning final sector to eventually claim the victory by just five seconds on a very strong Project 1t4i. Our first achieved season goal, which keeps Oz in touch for the Top-12 in the ProTour!

BOBRIDGE DELIVERS BIG TIME ON HOME SOIL

The 2015 campaign is over (with now "just" the Worlds and National Championships to come). We will give an update and recap of Oz's first year in the ProTour soon, but first have to catch up with the final races of the regular season. We had one more goal to achieve..

The two late season classics Praha - Karlovy - Praha and Giro di Lombardia didn't brought Oz too special results. As to be expected, to be honest. While William Ford (first picture below) showed himself aggressively in Praha (trying to attack the pack halfway through the race), our riders weren't really in the mix for a notable result eventually. Marcus Burghardt went to finish 21st then. We were even less succesfull in Italy, where Jack Bobridge was our best finisher as 27th in the Giro di Lombardia.

The more important race took place in Tasmania though: we entered our only home race with the goal to achieve a Top-3 in the GC. A tough goal with Jack Bobridge not amongst the very best puncheurs in the division yet. Fortunatelly, our captain delivered big time though: finishing 4th in the first key (hilly) stage and adding another 4th in the concluding timetrial, Bobridge went to achieve our ambitious goal as 3rd in the final GC! In addition to this great result, our team finished 1st in the team's rankings. What a great way to finish our good season. We could have hardly imagined a better showing on home soil.

In our last two HC-outings (Giro d'Emilia and Rheden GP), we wasn't much of a factor. Stay tuned for a season recap.

Impressive how well Visconti performed. He really shouldn't do that well in the PT, but nice nontheless...

Goss underperforms a bit, but not much... I hope that my TT'ers can replicate 223 and 317 next season. Vlatos and Paillot should be almost similar to Durbridge and Ford.

I will be looking forward to see if you will challenge for TTTs next season as well. Rogers being useless next season, but several riders go up a level to take over from him. O'Shea to 77, Haig to 75, Gunman to 75, Oram to 75, Wohler to 74, Morten to 73, Choi to 73... I wish my TT setup was this versatile.

Impressive how well Visconti performed. He really shouldn't do that well in the PT, but nice nontheless...

Thanks, mate.

Yes, Visconti did OP in two races, but I'm happy someone polyvalent like him did so. Always been one of my favorites.. Goss had a few good showings. If only he had have more luck at the Giro, this might have turn his season into a success.. Can't really complain anyway, our results were pretty solid afterall Smile

TTTs... I'm not sure yet! They can be frustrating, but surely my TTlers gave me some points. On paper,my setup still looks like a good base to once again focus on timetrials. But it depends on many things during the transfer period.. Choi was just loaned in, btw Wink

You had a good first season in PT, congrats to that! Smile

Will be fun seeing how the next season will go for you specially with Morton maxed. Cool

A very nice first season in PT, glad to see it went so well! 3/5 goals is quite nice as well. Looking forward to how you'll develop your team moving forward into the next season.

HAIG NEW U23 TIMETRIAL CHAMPION - MORTON SILVER IN THE RR

This year's Road World Championships were held in and around Paarl, South Africa. With no real chance for any Ozzie to follow up on Matthew Goss' Elite Road title from last season, our team still had some real threats for a few of the several events during those days in South Africa. Of course Lachlan Morton (Tour de l'Avenir winner) would have been our biggest hope to bring home another Worlds medal, entering the U23 Road Race as the top favorite.

But first, another of our current riders took home the ever prestigious golden medal: Domenico Pozzovivo was part of the Italian setup, that rode to a stunning victory in the TTT competition! A strong performance from the team brought Italy a quite comfortable win ahead of Spain and Colombia. We are happy for Pozzovivo to achieve something big like this.

And we got another golden medal before Morton had his big chance in the U23 road race: Jack Haig, Morton's key helper in his Avenir showing, delivered big time in the U23 ITT. Our future premium stage racer had great legs on a challenging parcours and took the victory in a thrilling fight against Morton's biggest Avenir competitor Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier. One second. Just one second of advantage for Haig eventually. Definitely one of our biggest highlights this season.

Lachlan Morton unfortunatelly missed another gold in the U23 road race though: while our premium climber looked strong in the final quarter of the race (see second picture below), a stunning solo attack by Daan Olivier did prevent Morton from winning the race. We had to settle for a still pleasant 2nd place - again ahead of Lecusinier, who came 3rd. Of course it's a shame to miss this victory as the runner-up, but Olivier did very well to benefit from a few moments of passive racing from the biggest guns.

As to be expected, our Ozzies had no real chance in the B and A Worlds road races, but Luke Durbridge added another notable result as 6th in the Elite ITT event. A tricky parcours brought some hard times for pure TT specialists, so we were delighted to see Durbridge finish as the best of the non-climbers.
