De Plus is amazing, really very consistent throughout year very similar to Benoot in his U23 years, he's just quite below Tiesj talent but De Plus is definitely Belgium's best talent GC hope, way ahead of Verveake.

And that concludes an interesting Tour de l'Avenir. Henao tried a long distance attack but was caught on the last climb. Soler was one of the strongest once again and rightly claims the overall win. A strong performance from Haig and Mamykin on the last stage secures them a podium spot, while Oomen moved to 4th. De Plus had a bad day, finishing more than 5 minutes down. He dropped to 8th place in GC.

Great victory for Soler; maybe just maybe someone who can follow in the footsteps of the big ageing spanish icons.. alongside Landa and possibly Bilbao that is.
Also nice to see Mühlberger up at the front at it again. 
With De Plus and Mühlberger each losing tons of time at various stages, really shows how tough it can be to perform on a consistent high level even in U23 races, and how important it is of course #CaptainObvious

Not being able to find video of the race over in NA kinda sucks.
Who would you say is the biggest talent out of the top 10 or has the most potential to be a star? |

You'd have to move up to 13th for biggest talent, Daniel Martinez is by far the biggest talent from this year GC's group, this year was quite poor in my view in terms of stacked talent.
Soler looks promising, but honestly he'll not be a world beater, he'll be good though. Haig similar, he will never be great climber, but a decent one.
Oomen has tons of potential, but he's Dutch, he could easily follow a trend of being super strong at U23 and then being so-so on pro level so its impossible to judge him.
Petilli and De Plus have been most consistent climbers on U23, one signed by Lampre, other by Etixx, I fancy them to do very well, they have tons of potential, but again, Petilli he could be totally new Cattaneo. Henao in his first Giro looked immense, and since then he's on a slump, no real progress, he's bound to come out of it though and at his best he's the best climber out of this group.
As for biggest talent, Daniel Martinez takes it for me.

Wow, I never imagined Soler to produce a result like this! Thought I read an preview of the race where he was described as a top-10 rider, but not more. I have only seen him one time at Movistar this year (the Neila-stage where he actually climbed very well), I just didnt ever view him as a great talent. And no matter how you slice it, its pretty huge to win the Avenir.
I wrote about the team and its transfers on another forum and my point being they definetely needed to sign either Landa, Valls, Betancur (and a few other options avalaible) or more since Gadret and Antón are leaving/regressing, Intaausti and Gorka Iza as well which puts them at a spot where they need some great climbing doms since they dont really have that. Anacona is the best at this stage, Quintana and Fernandez will improve, but how much? I didnt even mention Soler. Looking forward to see how those talents + Ion will do next year. |

What about Martinez makes him the biggest talent? Not being able to watch him race and all that I am curious. Is he super young still or just had a bad race? |

While I agree that winning Avenir is a big win I'm far from sold that he is a great talent, he looks like he'll make a good pro but at this stage there is nothing that I can see that suggests he will be anything more than that. I view Haig in the same way, he will make a good pro and a good climber and same goes for a few guys who finished high in the GC in this edition. I don't think we will be talking to much about this perticualr edition of the race in a few seasons, hope I'm wrong as I'd like to see more young Spanish talents coming through and same goes with Haig as Australian cycling needs more youngsters coming through who don't have a background on the track

Apart from GC guys, there's also Soren Kragh Andersen who's having a stellar season. He won two stages, definately one to keep an eye on, same with Mads Pedersen. Denmark have a golden generation.
Benoot is still way ahead of them.
I missed Power here, wonder what he could've done. And it was too bad Van der Poel crashed out. |

Yep, and we have a few other guys as well who are pretty damn strong, but Søren Kragh is without a doubt the standout I frickin even wrote to Movistar after Danmark Rundt to go sign him before Avenir, haha.
Strydz: I can't really say that much, you are probably right on that. I dont really know too much about Soler and originally thought he just would be a good dom at his peak, he may still only have that ceiling, but this result is promising anyways. If nothing else it shows he can climb decently and is relatively consistent which always is good. |

Agree with you Wilier. It was a pity seeing Van der Poel crash out, he just keeps on impressing and looks to be that little bit special

Walscheid won Kernen Omloop Echt-Susteren. He's currently a stagiaire at Giant - Alpecin so a good result in trying to secure a contract. Godrie, Dieteren and Hoelgaard also made it in the top 10.

Grossschartner wins stage 2 of the Giro della Regione Friuli Venezia Friuli. Ciccone finished 3rd, Gebreigzhabier, Garosio, Masnada, Velasco and Stüssi also in the top 10. The stage featured a short climb at the end.

Not the strongest field ofcourse because of the World Championships, but Velasco has had a steady season in the u23. I'm surprised he didn't get selected actually. He'll be joining Bardiani in 2016.

The first 9 riders are either Belgian or Dutch. Oomen wins the u23 edition after his third place in 2014. Rabobank again take the first two spots (last year they were 1-2-3 even). And Tusveld finished 2nd for two years in a row.
