Anyone would have been DQ for something like that.
I mean seriously he took hold of the team car and then they raced up to the main peloton with 80-90 km/h
There was nothing to argue against not DQ´ing a rider who does that when its caught on tv like this was.
Nibali should have known better but i think he was smashed and they didn´t think.
They would be better off DQing the idiots who cause these crashes for no reason then a top 5 rider in the race who no matter if he hung onto the car or not lost his chance to win on the second stage of a GT due to no fault of his own.
Who honestly cares if he cut the deficit from 3 minutes to 2 minutes because he held onto a car? |

I can't believe we are even discussing this issue.. this isn't drafting, this wasn't a sticky bottle or getting patched up by your team doc.. This was nothing you can turn a blind eye on. He held onto the car and speed away from the group at an unbelieveable speed. This is cheating and when someone cheats so blatanly like that he gets thrown out.
Nibali, a true bike racer. Always respects the sport... yeah, sure. lol

Except that it did give him an advantage towards all the others trailing. He just rode off on his own and the others were left in his dust to return to the front on their own power.
He can do it because he's Nibali.
Only he can't.
Fair.
The other riders could have done it as well. But Nibali is a team leader. Please explain why he should be punished because some other idiot crashed?
Please explain how the UCI has more times ignored the rule then enforced it?
Please explain why the UCI changes rules every race to appease the big names but this time because you dont like Nibali you are all excited for him being DQed.
You are showing just as much hypocrisy as the idiots who run cycling.
It doesn't matter if he got caught behind a crash he had nothing to do with, it's a racing incident that will happen to every rider at some stage, he held onto his team car with the driver deliberately speeding up, simple DQ. The argument isn't that Nibali was punished to harshly, but rather that other riders aren't being punished enough for things like this. The rules should be enforced so bye bye Nibali

We are discussing it because the rules are never enforced in a logical or consistent fashion. Where the race takes place and the nationality of the rider clearly has an effect on the actual punishment.
And it really was the same as all the other sticky bottle shit. This time we just got a picture that looked bad. You think this is the first or second for 100th time this exact things has been done in a race.
If you think every other team driver doesnt speed up when his man is holding the bottle and trying to catch up you are crazy. |

I just realized it now.
Sure it's blatant, but I would have liked to see a time penalty at say 5 minutes instead. I think Guillen is aware of how he robs the Vuelta from some good stuff coming from Vincenzo, but wants to state an example - its just 100x bigger when throwing a caliber like him out. Im not completely opposite it, but... come on, just give the man a 5 minutes penalty, effectively removing him from the GC and move on. But I understand why its somewhat a grey area since giving Rory Sutherland a 5 min penalty wouldnt matter |

Did you see the footage?
It´s not like all he did was stay behind the team-car a bit to long.
He grabs hold and then the driver floors it.... how could any race official not DQ a rider after that. |

By the way: When Porte got his penalty at the Giro, it was race commision decision. Not italian race organization. This time, it was also race commision decision. Not Vuelta organization.
So you guys keep your petty Vuelta "all spaniards help each other"-hating to yourself.

Still discussing this
Then, suiting your point, Movistar, everyone should have broken their collarbones because Cancellara got it broken in Huy stage of this Tour in a crash he didn't cause...
Or everyone should have waited Thomas in Manse's descent this Tour because he didn't cause his crash...
And many other examples...

I have never ever seen a team car skyrocket their rider away from a huge group of riders. This is thousand times worse than sticky bottle. That's why punishment is thousand times worse.
Or is stealing a million dollar the same as stealing 10 bucks now?

I wonder if some dutch guy caused the crash? #stereotypes
Big possibility it was.
It's just that I can't find an example anywhere of a home rider who happens to be a favourite (or any favourite actually) for the overall win got disqualified. This is pretty serious stuff. I'd really like to know if they'd do the same if Nibali was Spanish. It'd certainly turn the Spanish public against the organisation and UCI.

“The decision was taken by the UCI commissaires and we [the race organisation] were contacted to let us know what they were discussing [before taking it],” Guillén told a huddle of reporters in the Vuelta’s pressroom on stage two.

UCI commision. Vuelta organization is bound by them just like RCS was in Porte's case.

My question still stands, whether's it's UCI's decision or Vuelta organisers' decision.
Edit: I don't think they would've done it. It would create a negative atmosphere from the Spanish press and public towards UCI and organisers.

It gave him no advantage other then recovering from a crash he didnt cause.
We should be praising him for keeping the loss of time as limited as it was instead he is getting thrown out because he is Italian.
Where is the "This post sucks dick." Button, when I need it? The forum is lacking that for sure.

But giving Nibali a time penalty wouldn't punish the Team hard enough. He would simply work for Aru and Landa then.

Throw the driver out, its the same sticky bottle we see every race multiple times. It looked worse because we got the overhead shot of this one and there was a large group who got fucked after the crash.
Every single race a favorite or decent name gets screwed after a crash and takes the sticky bottle while the driver speeds up. They are never DQd |

I actually like Nibbles. But that's a clear DQ, and I don't care how often this happens somewhere else. Nuff said.

Exactly. Its again showing what a disgrace the leaders of cycling have become.
I would take 1000-1 that he wouldnt say those words if a spanish rider did the same.
"The rider’s action is bad for the image of cycling,"
Just screw this hypocritical loser. You know what was bad for the image of cycling? that TTT you just put on you idiot. You know what is bad for the image of cycling. Allowing guys like Horner and Cobo to win your race. |
