Hey guys! Been a hectic week! I received my summer call from coach yesterday who seemed to be enthusiastic about the season.
Definitely and obviously he wants me to step up my weekly mileage, he was quite happy with my 5K time last weekend however. He stressed that I need to start running on hills soon, because out conference championship meet is run on a course with many hills.
We started out the talk by how my summer was going. He knew about my passion for WWE, so he definitely asked if I had attended any events in the summer. He proceeded to ask me about my health, and my feet. Both of which are in very good condition right now.
Next, he asked me if I was ready to move in, which I gave a quick "yes!". (I just want to see my gf who I haven't seen since April, but he doesn't need to know that ). Next we got into running and season details. He expects me to be a team leader this fall, which people often laugh at because of how much I don't run. Oh well. We wrapped up the conversation with him telling me about moving in next month, and preseason getting underway the morning of the 16th.
As far as my running goes, well, it hasn't gone far. my sleep schedule has me sleeping 6AM - 2PM local time, with myself working anywhere from 6pm - 2am range. I come home and skype my GF until bed time. As you can see, I have been procrastinating. This log will obviously pick up heavily once the season starts, because I will have no choice but to run. For now, you will have to all bear with me as the offseason still progresses.

Cool stuff jdog, read it through just now. Seems as if your GF is interfering with your running or something.

You didn't think this was over did you? It is just getting started today, as the season OFFICIALLY got underway here at Thiel College. I learned today that not running in over a month won't net good results. It was a 2 mile time trial so our coach could determine the VO2 Max, which he will determine the paces for our workouts from them. It was a horrible day for me, as after 1 mile I felt like I was going to die because I could not breathe.
I started out the race in 2nd of our 7 boys. One of our freshman went out fast. I was pacing the group for the first mile before I started to slide. I ended up finishing 5th of 7 on my team, not good. I was running 10:35 2 miles a few months ago, and today I was 2+ mins. worse. 13:01 was my official time. Our team has alot of work, check out the article here:

If you take a look at my first couple posts I have my runs and schedules all posted. It is Saturday September 5, however, we will only run at like 85% effort for the first few races.

I haven't run in around 6 months (just a casual runner) but just curious how does weather affect you? In winter I can run a 5:30-6 minute mile, but in 100+ degrees in the summer i only just broke 8 minutes (probably bad form but gotta have an excuse).

Hill workout tonight. It was horrible. I finished 5th out of 7 of us and felt like I was going to die going up that hill the last time. Keep in mind the whole team went out fast, as I was supposed to run at 8:08 pace. My thighs are feeling very sore today, I still am wishing I would have ran this summer.

SPECIAL NOTE: Be sure to check out the first post of my thread because some runs I do I do not make a post about, as I just post the distance and time. Thanks!

Overall it was a great workout today. The goal was only to hit 3:43 8 times for my 800's but I hit the following times:
3:25
3:22
3:20
3:05
3:05
3:04
2:42
2:46
I felt great at the end, and in fact, was #1 on the team today. I finally feel like I am getting back into shape, something I have been wanting awhile. A few teammates actually stuck to the given times while others went out too hard and crashed early. The 1 mile warmup and cooldown made for about a 6 mile day. Just an easy run coming tomorrow, as we prepare for another hill workout on Thursday, which I hope ends up better than last Thursday

The run is pretty much described perfectly in my elevation/pace map. I died as I went on. I was leading our team the first half of the race, I ended up with a 4th place effort out of 7. I feel like I got a very good workout out of it. My weekly mileage is supposed to be somewhere around 25, but it looks like I will surpass that as I have a long run coming Saturday. I am definitely starting to feel better about myself, as my legs and feet made it through most of the workout relatively ache free! First race is coming in just under 10 days from now!

Just an update from the past weekend. My watch took a fit and will no longer sync to my computer or charge so I am ordering a new one tomorrow. I have updated my first post and will continue to do so, so keep watching! I have (6-8) 1000m repeats coming tomorrow and a hard hill workout on Thursday.

Overall it was a fairly decent run today! It was like a 0.9 mile hill loop that consisted of about 0.16 steep uphill and 0.12 miles of steep downhill shortly afterwards (as you can see above) I ended up being #1 on the team by a good 30 seconds, I felt really good today, and am finally adjusting to these hill workouts. My pace continues to improve and my confidence is sightly going up. Just an easy run tomorrow before raceday on Saturday!

First race of the season was a very hot one. When the mini cannon shot off at 10:30 AM, it had already reached 88 degrees outside. This is no lie, at 50 meters into the race, I was dead last. Behind everyone. Laughing and talking with my teammates. We have this one kid, Drew, who surely I have told you guys about, and he went out fast. I could hear my coach tell him to pace himself, but his parents were there so of course he will show off. Anyways, as you can see by the photo above, there is a pretty big hill early in the race. I don't have any photos to show you yet, my coach has not sent them to me. As we crested the hill the first time, I was starting to pass some people. Eventually made it to first on my team, and I stayed there the rest of the race.
My pace was relatively consistent. As Bethany (WV) is a team in our conference, I tried outrunning a kid at the very end, a kid who I ran with basically the whole last half of the race. I had no foot pains, and my only concern was the heat (the 200m walk to my powerade after the race sucked.) It was a great first race for me, I felt strong throughout and did over a minute better than that same race last year. I strongly feel that not wearing spikes is a big positive, and being the best runner on the team (essentially) is a big confidence boost also.
Will have more updates on the season soon, including a report on a 2M TT that we did to compare to day 1 of practice.

It is time for the second 2M time trial of the year! This time, you can see the HUGE improvement that I made from a few weeks ago. Over a minute faster, and my second mile was even better! It started with me in second pacing off of a kid on our team (He won the first time we did this). At the end there was 4 of us bunched together in a pack. I made a move with 800m to go to put some separation between myself and the field, although 1 other kid stuck with me. He made a big move with 100M to go sprinting by and kicking it in, but I kicked it right back in and edged him by 0.1 second at the line to finish with a great time.
This essentially means my pace times will be much higher now, so easier runs will get harder and intervals will be faster paced. I already beat my PR from all of last season with this first race, so if I can stay injury free it should be a great season. Easy runs coming today and tomorrow followed by a workout Thursday and a race in West Virginia on Saturday, which happens to be the same course where I got hurt last year.
