Giro d'Italia Discussion

I would say this is a quite good Giro from us! We didn't really have any expectations here other than being present in as many breakaways as possible. We managed that with ease, and managed to get a stage win out of it, which is cool. Great race from especially De Bie and Pirazzi, but also Colbrelli who had some nice results throughout the flat stages.

Congrats to SN and many thanks to Roturn for the great reports!

What a tour. Only started reading from stage 17 onwards. Cannot believe Ricco lost on the last stage like that.

Will have to start reading from the start and see how the whole race panned out.

Great race to follow and nice to see all my 3 riders I was following survived. 64th for Fernandez wasn't too bad and Jazer took 27th in the final stage which isn't too bad.

Of course I cant complain about the race, nor the points scored, but it still hurts a bit. Especially if I am to Challenge Vesuvio for the final rankings.

Becherovka came out with a nice points haul aswell, but taking back a huge amount of points on them in the combinated Giro-California is very important. Also, i only need to score a total of 550 points in the Tour and the Vuelta to get the same amount of points as last year, and then I had both Spilak and Guerao in my GTs which I dont have this season. Getting 550 points will be difficult from those races though, and I really need Lecuisinier to deliver aswell as getting a good amount of Young Rider points. If he can get one top 10 and a 15th or so in the other while winning the U25 Jersey in one and getting 3rd or so in the next I will have it secured... Also I hope Tzortzakis can do a good performance next time aswell, although competition will be fierce.

My hopes goes towards some shitty team getting the leaders Jersey (like us), and allowing a lot of breakaways.

The ardennes will be very very interesting. I think my team is in the top 5 PT right now, and I need to outperform Vesuvio (a bit), and Becherovka (a lot) in the ardennes to have a shout at victory. Not that it is much of a concern, as we only target top 5. I even think we have top 10 as our goal. Speaking of which, we accomplished goal no. 2 here with Ricco safsky inside the top 10.

Oh and one more thing. Thanks Roturn! You really made this Giro amazing to follow, not only for the ones involved, but I suspect many others can also get a very nice read, and a great impression of th Man-Game from this.

Superb pace, I really love this season in that regard. The game went from being something that I once loved a lot, to something that I loved, but the love was fading and back to falling in love all over again. I still think this version is one of the worst, BY far, but the pace and the things "we" can control are just top notch. Really!

Also it seems that there are far less important riders crashing out/being injured than in th past - or perhaps it just isnt my riders this season Smile I guess that is one small thing that is in favor of the version. Also the sprints seems somewhat OK. Not great by any means, but OK. Mountains, hills, cobbles and TTs Seem to be all over the place.

Ach 10th to 15th in one stage... probably a fairer result then. Thanks for the reports roturn, great quantity and quality!

Disagree, sprints really suck in general.

I too think they suck.

What a fantastic and entertaining Giro, congrats to SN and Schleck, he's been awesome.

Also great to see Cunego managing to get on the podium even with his stats declines and losing time early on.

For Bouygues, this Giro was a disaster. Jurgen Roelandts deciding the requirements of sprinting no longer requiring the sprinting part was extremely frustrating, as he certainly could have been challenging for at least top 3 on multiple stages. Nice to see some top 10s on some stages, and Warren Barguil finishing 8th in the U25 bodes well for the future

Feel sorry for you Crommy.
I have simply no idea why he did not go for the sprints when being a potential winner in any of them.
I even checked the DB if he was rated something else but sprinter but he had the same settings as the other sprinters. So really no idea.

It was really frustrating from a reporters view.

i just read the rest of the Giro. It was very exciting. A few different leaders and a dramatically final mountain stage.

I feel a bit sorry for Ricco but Schleck seemed like the stronger rider overall.

Congrats to SN and thanks for the great reports roturn!

A very though Giro here for us. Uran did great on some stages (mostly the TT's), but the hilly stages ruined everything. Losing 8+min is unacceptable, especially considering a few of my 70- hill riders even finished in groups before him.

Looking at it from a neutral point of view, the battle was nice to follow. I was really rooting for Ricco to take it. Quite unfortunate that he even ended up missing hte podium. Unfortunate that so many stages went to the breaks and with such big time gaps. Kinda ruined the GC for some other teams. Guess you just had to be lucky to be in the break.

This Giro definitely showed a lot of flaws in PCM14 though. From sprinting AI to (imo) unrealistic time gaps to break RNG.

I have just re-calculated my Giro-points again, because I couldn't understand why I was so "off" with my calculations, but I still get quite a big difference.

I calculate my points to 1043 points, and this is with me giving very limited points for being shared in lead. I don't remember how that is calculated, but at one point Tzortzakis is leading the points competition with the same amount of points as two others.

The way I calculated this was 9 points divided by 3 = 3 points, but I believe it should rather be 9+4+2 = 15/3 = 5 points. So I might need 3-4 points more in my calculations. Here it is btw:

Ouch... Being gone over the summer meant that I missed an entire GT, plenty of classics and another half of a GT.

Not going to complain about the pace of the game - it's excellent that we're moving ahead so nicely - so I'll just keep shut, start reading up and hope my team did ... something Pfft

Stage 6: Damn it... a few metres longer, and Kennaugh would have won.

Pretty reasonable sprinting by him in this first part of the Giro. Now, let's see who survives the mountains...

Oh, and nice touch with the videos so far, roturn.

--

Stage 8: Woooohoooooo!!! What a sprint by Kennaugh! So far back...

--

Stage 12: Pretty annoying that my team keeps missing out on the breakaways on stages where they actually stand a chance of making it...

GC-battle is interesting. Pretty 'funny' how the GC favourites seem to have an off-day each.

--

Stage 14: Perfectly suited for Schreurs ... who does absolutely nothing. Useless.

--

Stage 17: And the GC battle is on for real! Grin SotD deserves this, so even though Ricco is not my favourite I'm hoping for a Schleck crash/off-day.

--

Stage 18: Yet another perfect breakaway day, yet another day where Schreurs and co does nothing.

--

Stage 19: Wow... This is one for the history books.

--

Stage 20: BOOM! Ouch, Ricco... But what a stage, what a drama this Giro has been.

Bit of a shame to see Kennaugh go Sad

--

Stage 21: Who cares Sad

Well, you know who is interested in Schreus for several seasons now. Pfft
You don`t want to keep this useless crap.

Thanks for your post. Completely missed it until now.

Turns out that Stage 6 and Stage 17 were setup to award TTT points, hence giving the wrong values.

Actually I now have you at 1051 points.

I got 1043, but like said I don't remember how to calculate the shared lead things, so I am probably having more than 1043, I would have guessed 1048-1049, but that's so close so it doesn't really matter... I have about 40 points difference (in my way) in the first 10 races aswell, but that is probably just me not calculating it properly. I also have 14-15 points too little in California (according to myself), but it's just the Giro I really stumbled across, because the difference was quite big, and I was pretty sure I was having above 1000 points. I said somewhere in this discussion that the goal was 1000 points (that was probably after stage 17-18). And by then I was almost sure it couldn't fail.

I'm quite interested what it means to the overall, because I suspect that some will be getting even more points than me here Smile
