Well well well... I clearly hadn't seen that one coming.
In this version there seems to be HUUUUGE gaps, once there are given any. So these 2 minutes are lost on the first mountainstage I think - But it really can't destroy the fantastic start to the race.
If Tzortzakis can somehow get a top 3 on stage 10 then I'm fine with not getting anymore top results, and see Ricco fall to 7-8th GC.

This is the most painful race I've had the pleasure to read.
I guess I should be relieved that Palini went in the break, but why on a stage which would have been perfect for Ponzi, I have no idea.
I am gutted.

Ricco really making himself a serious contender for the overall here. Two minutes to Madrazo and Schleck is a lot, and there are more hilly stages to come!
A little bit disappointed to see Guldhammer not being able to come home together with Denifl and Madrazo considering the hilly stat, but 12th is still okay. And up to fifth overall after such a big loss in the TTT feels great, admittedly it will be very hard to defend it, but it's great to see him competitive
And of course congratulations to beagle on the stage! Kind of easy to forget when the GC riders have a go at each other like that on such a difficult hilly stage. |

Wow, was not expecting these gaps on todays stage. Cunego definitely made his move too late, but atleast he is showing strength. Still 3min down on Ricco on one stage is pretty bad.

What a stage, what a winner! After such miserable Giro so far (with Stauff as the only sprinter DNF), victory in such hard stage is HUGE. Thanks for congratulations!
Whole Festina team is on fire atm, making not only Giro, but battle for PT crown more interesting. Roman must feel less comfortable
Thanks roturn for whole your work!

Continually great reports coming in from Roturn - many thanks!
Not had a chance to comment on most recent stages, but GC race has really kicked off now. First mountian stage seemed to have set the scene, but the long hilly stage has really shook things up! Still think this is Schleck vs Madrazo come the end of 3 weeks, but keeps the interest level high to have another player in the jersey at this stage. Ricco is also rapidly closing in on the points jersey, and perhaps will have more chance of winning this long term than holding pink(?). All edge of your seat stuff, so really enjoying the first GT of 2015.

I wonder what made Kreder the designated sprinter for the day. Not that I'm complaining
Hopefully Lammertink will have a speedy recovery and be able to do again what he does best in no time.

.....agh.....
......oooo....
....awwww....
Eureka ... Just when I thought he was gonna be beat first by De Bie then by fat ass Goss.
I guess I will be joining the moaners now
Super satisfaction, a win and narrowly denying the kangaroo boys. Time for me to carefully unpeel and whip out....

Kredser you bastard! Dont block my greek god!
Cant have it all, and 5th is still nice, and Tzortzakis expands his lead in the points competition ever so slightly, which is good. The longer he can hold into that the better.
Now comes the first difficult part, I hope Ricco is up for it, rather than sitting back and defending a Jersey that he cant win anyway.

Should I laugh or cry? Prevar seems to be in good shape, Ulanwoski not too bad, but Krasnoperov losing time on a stage like this, finishing last where even Randrianambinina can follow... What a waste of 300k...

What are you talking about? Kreder started the sprint behind Tzortzakis and then overtook him. It was Goss who Kreder was blocking.

I feel like screaming every time I see a break without an Ayubowan rider in it. Every time. |

Nice to see the best pure sprinter in the race get that win, eventhough Goss was very unfortunate, perfectly shown by the video.
AI tends to not give huge gaps on a hilly stage with a downhill finish, I feel, but it will be key to follow if something happens. Hopefully Guldhammer can defend his top 5 position starting stage 12, but it will be difficult with some great guys just behind. |

Kump not trying is bit sad to see, but can't be disappointed we have steady income of points from Madrazo and Goos for now, tomorrow's stage will be interesting, hopefully Madrazo pays attention to Ricco, we shouldn't allow him more time or this will become a dangerous gap, hopefully we can exploit Schleck seemingly weakness on the hilly terrain so far.

Denifl lost a bit too much time there Hopefully he will take time back when the mountains come around.
Well raced by Ricco on the hills, and good for Red Bull to win a sprint now

Nibali must just be doing the same thing he is in the real tour: suck the first part of the race, and then come back strong in the final week. Well, I'll wait. At least the race at the top end is exciting! Great reports!
