2015 brings a new breeze of contenders which will very likely dethrone the names who've dominated this race. Edvald Boasson Hagen comes as favourite in theory, and will seek an astounding result to bounce back from his 2014 season. On the other side of the spectrum we have Francesco Ginanni and Yuri Trofimov who will gladly give continuity to a rather impressive year. Last year’s runner up Jan Bakelants is also here looking to please his team leader Theo Bos with a triumph in the season opener. The Simon duo of Spilak and Ponzi should be a good bet for potential winners as well. Vesuvio's leader Ben Gastauer will try to please his manager in successfully succeeding to his mentor's legacy. We have another name associated with Vesuvio in Toms Skujins, but the latvian will be trying to upset SN, rather than amusing him. To finish this preview we have 2 anglo-saxonic threats in Tejay Van Garderen and Chris Froome who should provide some fireworks for their eager to win, recently promoted teams.
Here's a list of best puncheurs for reference:
Name | HILL | Edvald Boasson Hagen | 85 | Jan Bakelants | 84 | Francesco Ginanni | 83 | Yuri Trofimov | 83 | Simon Spilak | 82 | Simone Ponzi | 82 | Tejay Van Garderen | 82 | Chris Froome | 82 | Toms Skujins | 82 | Ben Gastauer | 82 | Jay McCarthy | 81 | Damiano Cunego | 81 | Maurice Schreurs | 81 | Stefan Schumacher | 81 | Aleksandar Flügel | 81 | Cyril Gautier | 80 | Diego Ulissi | 80 | Tommy Zaini | 80 | Nicolas Roche | 80 | Frank Schleck | 80 | Pello Bilbao | 79 | Sergio Barrio | 79 | Philippe Gilbert | 79 | Mohamed Shawal Anuar Aziz | 79 |
Buckle your seatbelts everyone, 2015 is about to take off

Should I take it as a bad omen that Bobridge is not even listed as a contender?
Any Top-15 in such a field would be pleasant anyway. Maybe taking benefit of his ACC with an earlier attack, this should be Bobridge's only chance.

Very strong field here
Hopefully Paavo will be able to help Schleck to a good result in his first race in Vesuvio colours.

And so it begins, I can only hope that strength in depth turns out to be really useful here. Thanks for doing this Gustavovskiy

Decided to only send Flügel here, hoping for a good top 10 from him. My bet however is placed on Spilak, as the other punchy opening race I believe this is one for the riders with good Mon stats. Part of the reason I sent Denifl here aswell, had a few race days left and hoped the Mon stat could help him a bit to score some points.
Great to see the PT starting, really looking forward to this season

Time to see how lethal the combination of TVG and Barrio are together. Need to get off to good start here so we don't start our relegation fight by being dropped in quicksand.
I got money down on TVG but in reality I think Trofimov takes the opener.
Good luck everyone.

Damn, exciting stuff. Froome hopefully with a Top 10 here to start off, otherwise no expectations on Aziz, with Serry/Barbin/Waytens/Kump hope we can put some mid-stage attacks or get some minor places points.
Should be a cracker, Spilak to win it.

It's here!
Looking a lot forward to this one. Like Heine and Alakagom I fancy Spilak for the win due to his mountain stat. The steep final kilometer or so should be perfect for him, assuming it's the same as in previous editions.
Though, I obviously hope Boasson Hagen is strong enough to get there first. It should at least not come down to the support he has for this one, as the 75-76 guys should be strong enough to control most of the race, as I suspect we'll be forced to do just that considering the bib numbers. Then it should come down to picking the right move in the decisive part of the race, and of course avoid a crash like last year.

I'm looking very much forward to this. Spilak with his two 77HI helpers needs to do atleast a top 5 here, eventhough that could be tough enough to complete.
I have Trofimov as the winner here ahead of Boasson Hagen and Bakelants.

Happy that it's finally here. It'll be a tough task for Ulissi to get a good result here, but if he can stay in the front group after the hill, he should be able to sprint to a good placing. A top 10 would certainly be nice.
My guess is on Cunego or Trofimov for the win.

TJ Slagter and Mudarra are my first ever riders to ride in PT (Brajko etc. dont count since they weren't mine when they rode in PT) So i'm really looking forward to seeing what they can do at this level.

My money's on Spilak, this seems like a profile that will need a good mountain stat along with a strong hilly one. Supporting him along with Bakelants, as we've got Grmay riding for Festina and Kebede for Bouygues. Interested to see how they get on in the PT. |

The old generation seems to love this race, so I hope Cunego isn't quite done yet and can add another podium performance here.
I'd love to see Spilak give Festina a reason to cheer again by taking a solo win.

Yeah here we go into a brve new world of having a rider that can actually do something in a PT Hilly race.
Would be great to see a top 10 here as we have sponsors to please - this race does tend to suit the all rounder so Spilak may be a guy to watch. Would be nice to see Hagen get the nod for me.

I'm gonna call Trofimov on this one, but I would not be surprised to see Spilak win as everyone expects. Hopefully Schumacher can top 10, but this is a very strong field.

At what point did it seem like calling my team "The Irish Rovers" was a good idea?
Anyway, hoping for a Top 10 from McCarthy, could be possible with a bit of luck.
