Uran wasn't in that group

Roextro
Uran finished six seconds behind that group

Contador has never lost the GT lead once he has taken it.

Amador is the leader of Movistar now or they will just say fuck it to the GC and hunt stage wins from now on?

Very true, very true indeed.

Fresh D
Nice racing so farBanana
Cunego's doing surprisingly good this year.
Top 10 is within his reach if he can conserve this form for 3 weeks.
The field of good climbers is really thin in this Giro though.
Top 3 is carved in stone, I don't think Uran can strike back without a team and in that form. Pozzovivo, Hesjedal and Zakarin also already gone.

Seeing how the sprint went today i can see Aru take pink off of him on saturday by grabbing some bonus seconds.

If there is anything resembling a GC leader of Movistar atm, it should be Visconti. Too bad the I's haven't kept up.

Good day for Contador, putting more seconds into Uran, who apparently has a cold. I wouldn't write the Colombian off yet. Also nice to see Landa showing more of his potential. Aru confirms that he's strong.

Edit: Intxausti 9 mins down on Contador today. Looks like he's preparing to stage hunt! Smile

I'd say that over the last few years, the Vuelta aswell has been far more enjoyable than the Tour. I didn't think we would be seeing this much action when I saw the initial route. I figured it might end up like the last time we got a really have Giro (Vuelta?) where they made the race too hard, meaning no one wanted to spend any energy until the last few days.

Aru seems to be super strong, even though he was too sick to race, lost weight and had no racing leading up to the giro. Still think Henderson was right, even though the way he expressed it was idiotic.

Just... Well, on the bright side, what an awesome ride by Polanc.

I think the hardness of this Giro goes a bit under the radar. There are no Gardecchia or Pampeago stages. What makes it so hard is a lot of stages like yesterday, and there are a couple of really long ones to come.

In the end, it's up to the riders. Any race with Pantani in it would be super hard, and any race with Contador will most likely be hard.

Stage 6: Montecatini Terme - Castiglione Della Pescaia (183km)

An opportunity for the peloton to have a relatively easy day after three arduous medium mountain stages, the 2015 Giro d'Italia continues with an 183 kilometre-long sprint stage from Montecatini Terme to Castiglione Della Pescaia.

After gaining the Maglia Rosa during yesterday's summit finish on Abetone the Tinkoff – Saxo team will be in for a long day of setting the pace in the peloton, such is the responsibility of the Maglia Rosa. Eventually the teams of the sprinters should takeover the responsibility of bringing back any breakaways from Tinkoff - Saxo, however, you can be sure they will leave it to as late as possible.

While classified as a sprint stage the parcours features one Category 4 climb and several unclassified lumps and bumps, with the categorised Pomarance climb (6.3km at 4.4%) reaching a maximum grade of 11 percent. So while the peloton might appreciate a pizza pan flat they will need to drag themselves over an undulating middle third of the stage before reaching the finish.

The final 20 kilometres of the stage will be flat as a pancake as the peloton ride towards the Tirreno Sea, with the prospect of a mild headwind or cross-headwind. Current forecasts are predicting 15-20km\h strong south to south-easterly winds while the peloton are en route to the coastal port of Castiglione Della Pescaia.

Coming in to town for the predicted sprint finish the peloton will have to navigate two 90-degree bends and one small roundabout. The first 90-degree (left-hand) bend arrives with 2.7 kilometres to go, the second 90-degree (right-hand) bend with just 2.3 kilometres to go and the roundabout within the final two kilometres with just 1500 metres to go.

The final 1000 metres of the stage will be on an almost dead straight 7.5 metre wide asphalt road set back one block from the nearby beach front. As a result lead-out trains should play a influential role in today's stage, stringing out the peloton to secure superior road position heading in to the sprint often a crucial aspect.

Stage Contenders

On paper the finale looks perfectly suited to Lotto – Soudal's Andre Greipel and without a victory so far this Giro d'Italia the German will be keen to re-assert his superiority. The German's supporting cast however will need to be prepared for a tough fight up against the sprint trains of the other teams.

The Italian favourite for today will likely be Team Sky's Elia Viviani, who still wears the Maglia Rossa (Red Jersey) of the Points classification. While the Italian will be without much of a lead-out as the team looks after team leader Richie Porte, if he can shadow the right wheels to the front of the pack I expect the Italian to put in a very competitive performance.

Bringing a dedicated team for the sprint stages to the 2015 Giro d'Italia there will be an onus Trek Factory Racing to snatch the stage honours. The team will likely be riding in support of Giacomo Nizzolo similar to Stage 2, won by Elia Viviani.

cdn.media.cyclingnews.com/2015/02/23/2/pic521881463_670.jpg

Another team who should be very competitive in the finale are Giant – Alpecin, as the German team look to secure at least one stage victory with Luka Mezgec. While Giant – Alpecin are not here with their very best lead-out riders as long as they can nail the consistency usually associated with their sprint trains Luka Mezgec should be up there fighting for the stage honours.

With a lead-out containing the likes of Maximiliano Richeze and Roberto Ferrari it would be foolish to overlook the chances of Lampre – Merida's Sacha Modolo. No matter if the road is flat or at an incline the Italian can be expected to be fiercely competitive in a sprint even up against some of the very best sprinters.

Other sprinters in with an outside chance of claiming the stage honours include IAM Cycling's Matteo Pelucchi, Orica – GreenEDGE's Michael Matthews, Bardiani – CSF's Nicola Ruffoni, Etixx – Quick-Step's Tom Boonen, Movistar's J.J Lobato and LottoNL – Jumbo's Moreno Hofland.

Final Thoughts

Back to the sprint stages for the next two days before we smash right back in to the medium mountain stages again. Who do you see winning Stage 6 of Il Garibaldi? Personally, I am going to put my faith behind Lampre's Sacha Modolo.

Don't know if Landa will win a GT but Hells Yes he is goooooood!
Don't think Contadors attack was that big, Porte reeled him in easily enough with Aru also holding even if he did look a little pained in doing so.
Konig looks like he is doing just fine, he is here mainly to look after Porte which he is doing and finished in the biggish group just behind the big 3, he also finished 3rd @Trentino before the Giro also riding in support of Porte.

But Contador plans to peak for third week and for a guy not doing a race in some time it was impressive. He's a man on a mission! Cool

Oh alright then. I didn't just see him in the race and commentators were mostly referring to Sioutsou as a helper, which might may or may not have been the case.

About Landa: I just wanna enjoy the hype for a minute. Wink It's been some time since Mayo and Antón. Sad
