As someone with a race favourite, I don't like that
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Looking forwards to Oman. Demare, and the whole team, had a kick-ass time in Qatar. Looks like a slightly easier sprint field (seriously, no full startlist?) so perhaps we can get another stage win or more. Elissonde sent for the mountain stage. He's a decent climber, certainly equal to most of the EPIC climbers in attendance, aiming for a Top10 GC with a splash of luck.
Adrien here for BMC. Good shot are sprints, especially on the bumpier days. Targeting that first win and to continue to build form after a slightly muted TDU peformance. Hopefully Owniak can accept his place in the team, behind Hanzen, and not get too angry if things don't go his way.

No mention of Walker who won a stage here last year.

Tour of Oman - Stage 1
Welcome to the Tour of Oman. Like the usual races in the Middle East race, the Tour of Oman is a race with only one deciding stage. The key difference is that it’s a true mountain stage that is the deciding stage. With a number of great climbers like Alberto Contador (TTS) and Jean Christophe Peraud (ALM) at the start it will prove a great race to the top of the famous Green Mountain.
That is still far aways as we have a fair number of flat stages for the sprinters and the number of sprinters present will prove for some exiting sprint finishes. Racing with bib 1, John Degenkolb is the biggest name at the start.
The break was easily established. Zabel (TNE), Murphy (UHC), Walker (DPC), Reaetmaekers (TNN), Quintero (COL), Bonifazio (BAR) and Moreno (CSS) were the first group that got away. Two riders however decided that the break lacked some orange however and attacked short after each other. P. Feunard (CCC) and Orbe (EUS) attacked shortly after each other to complete todays break.
Oman; featuring a single road and desert
The only KOM point today was contested by Quintero as he made the first move for the line. It wasn’t Quintero however that won the KOM as Moreno outlasted Quintero to take the KOM jersey for today. The gap is 6 minutes
Moreno beating everybody else for the first “test” of strength
Unlike usual stage races the intermediate sprint were contested in the breakaway with Murphy winning the first in a close sprint and Zabel winning the second. The gap is however only 1’50” due to Astana pulling the peloton
Raeymaekers drops from the break after the first intermediate sprint
Bonifazio and Feunard try to make a miracle happen and with 2km to go they have 21 seconds, a real sprint train is lacking but we have some riders of Caja Rural and Astana in charge of the peloton. Only Bardiani’s Viviani is far back
Viviani out of the picture
Demare (FDJ) is the first to go after the two with Hanzen (BMC) on his wheel
Duque (CJR) on the right is also quick with a response
Demare is still leading the peloton but Hanzen is pulling alongside. Degenkolb was beaten by reacting to late and is racing against Ciolek and Ferrari for 3rd place. 5th if they don’t reach Bonifazio and Feunard.
Bonifazio is quick to raise his arms, he’s got Feunard beat but Demare and Hanzen are going much faster than he is
He wisely puts them down and gives that final push to secure the victory for the Italian sprinters team. … From a breakaway. Feunard holds on to just 2nd place while Demare beats Hanzen for 3rd place. Degenkolb, Ciolek and Ferrari make for places 5th, 6th and 7th. Caja Rural is probably happy with their 8th place by Martinez Machado while newcomer Drapac finish 9th with Leigh. Astana gets bonus points Bozic in 10th place.

66éme Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne 2014 | Race Report
The riders are ready for 203 km of real drama and it's in every teams ambition to get a rider in the break. The weather is symbolic as always, but I doubt the riders will get in real trouble, bet the roads are really slippery.
Loic Vliegen (LTB), Alex Rasmussen (GRS), Bobby Traksel (VCD), David Veilleux (EUC), Vladimir Gusev (COF), Kurt Hovelynck (CRE) and Nikolas Maes (TFR) are the first to try and attack.
Sky only had 4 passports in total
After 30 km of attack for riders from 15 different teams, Sky wasn't happy with letting a 16 man group go away, so in the end Roy Curvers (GIA) joined Gusev, Hovelynck and Rasmussen in the break of the day.
One of the big talents in this terrain also wants to join and succeeds after some hard work, the guy is no other than Kenneth Vanbilsen (TSV) and Topsport keeps their promise for dominance in the Flandiennes.
The break has arrived at the middle checkpoint of the race, Bruxelles is only located 25 km from here, but now the riders will turn back to Kuurne with a 4'40 minute gap. The Ardennes is their only hindrance, but also the reason they still have a chance of surprise in their hands.
at the top of La Houppe
The beauty of the Ardennes is mostly enjoyed at the top as everything else, if you look carefully you can see the peleton a little far away in the horizon. 6 minutes seperates them, but someone might wanna give Trek a hand pushing the tempo up some levels.
There are no fans to be seen, but some of the teams youngster may have had an long night painting the road for the big race, but "The Cannibal" has a strong team around him and will most likely not sit back and watch
Yoann Offredo and Arnaud Demare has some special plan sorted out and both attacks with 100 km left of the stage and quickly gets a gap with Matthew Hayman (SKY) trying to shut down their "sneaky" attempt.
Arnaud Demare may be certain that Cancellara will be unstoppable if they don't do anything or they're worried that the break won't be catched in time for a sprinter to win.
The plan is working better as expected, cause they're almost catched the break on their own and from the top of Cote du Trieu, they have a strong chance for getting an result home from here.
Matthew Hayman is still on full throttle and might even get his teammates to work more harder, but we'll see if that becomes an issue, as the cobble pavées haven't had any impact yet.
Luca Paolini (VCD) doesn't want to wait for things to happen without him, so he attacks for his own chance, this might just work in favour of the pack. Here is the current situation
Several known names has been dropped on Cote du Trieu, but none of the big sprinters has lost anything, but their energy might be another thing to consider!
Trek seems to have forgotten their outfit, this is still unknown to why, but we can only say that it doesn't take the focus away from them. All the big WT teams have almost all their riders in the 52 man peleton.
The breakaway get's caught with 42 km left, just as they all enter the city of Kuurne again. None of the breakaway riders seems to have used vital energy and keeps up with the high pace. It seems like it will be the day for the sprinters, but their energy reserves is still unknown.
After failed attempts from Vanmarcke and Cancellara, which tried to attack for the last 10 km's, but with limited success. Alf Pedersen got his own debut, but seems to up for the task and gets an succesfull attack on. 7 km left and an chasing pack can only mean one thing Pedersen vs Sprinters.
Khamse Khamphan, Stybar and Haussler seems to know something that we don't, as they attack with 4 km to go!
Roelants seems to sprint without Greipel on the left, it's unknown whether they can reach Pedersen and the other 3 with 20 seconds between them. Let's see who got most energy left!
Pedersen is empty, it's hard to get a good eye on who is winning the sprint! Greipel has found his way to the front, McDermott and Haussler seems to be losing momentum, but you can barely notice Zdenek Stybar with Arnaud Demare on his wheel, who will win !?
Pedersen blocks the way for Greipel, which will probably have won if it wasn't for the norwegian debutant. Stybar used the slipstream and Demare squeezed himself with him for 2nd! André Greipel gets 3rd, but surely he must be furious at the Sky man

Woops, totaly forgot Degenkolb in the preview
Funny how the sprint team always wins in breakaways..
Good report, seems about the perfect length for a stage like this
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Oh look, another break.
Good job by Ciolek though.
Also Hintermüller looks secure for a top 10 given the field, but still, it's PCM

Damn 2nd place from Feunard and worst thing is that Bonifazio was 2nd on my Draft list -.- Sorry for posting KBK this early and didn't see that Oman was out...
So Feunard probably secures KoM jersey in Tour Down Under and now he get's 2nd in a stage <3

Oman - Great stuff from Demare, didn't think he's win that peloton sprint starting so early. Hanzen also very good, matching up to Demare. Overall very good stage for FDJ and Hanzen even if the break did get there first. Added bonus, no time gap for the break so hopefully Yellow is just a stage or two away.
KBK - WTF was that double attack Amazing decision by the AI because it's something i definately would have tried (albeit with Ladagnous not Demare). And then when that didn't work Demare still finished 2nd.
Christ FDJ.fr has come out swinging this season! How long can this go on?!

Too bad Orbe didn't have what it took to be there in the finish. The only goal for these stages is breaks and proecting de las Campos so that went after the plan so far.
With this peloton I have high hopes for Cristiano so good to see that he stays out of trouble.
Edit: Zabel'd by a race report...
A solid start from McDermott in Kuurne. I'll take that for now.

And Kuurne while we're at it, great!
Can't say I'm too happy about the race from Belkin. We didn't manage to breakaway, yet we manage to drop out sprinter. Lars Boom saves the day more or less.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

@Ollfardh : Theo Bos even tried to get into the breakaway, so I can vouch for that the AI hates BMC and Belkin atm
EDIT : All race photos can be found here https://imgur.com/...
The original race report had 30 pictures cut into 18, some of them are not here though

Heh.. that double attack from FDJ was funny. Although if they had succeeded it would have been a brilliant move.
De las Campos did well to stay in the peloton. Hopefully no echelons will happen in Oman. |

Btw did McDermott leadout Stybar or did they ride their own sprints?
Or did Stybar have an advantage from when he attacked?

Stybar was kinda trapped in the 4 man attack group with 2km to go, so he rode his own sprint and McDermott had some help from Rasmussen or Nuyens when they chased Pedersen.

Yay for Kristoff (hopefully) securing the win at TDU and nice to see Kakhi 4th allthough it will cost him a lot of points compared to 3rd.
Not a good start at Oman but finally another team with Katusha. Will be interesting to see what we can do here. |

Yay decent from Heino at K-B-K, definitely a good result for him and the team consider ping consistent top 10s was the aim
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."
