Willy is a real climber. He's not a great hill rider though. He is doing great though. Keep it up

It really is dramatic that Willy can't keep up in the hills but can create a gap in the mountains. With some mountains to come I still think Willy should hold on.

Jakstar: That is a very exact definition and what makes this Vuelta so thrilling: Everyone loses time somewhere.
The Rider: Too bad there's no more mountains then Three hilly stages with flat finishes and a short flat stage to finish the race is all that's left.

Vuelta a España
Stage 18: Solares – Noja
Another hilly stage means another nervous day for us.
It takes quite a struggle, but Matti finds his way into the breakaway.
With 55 km to go the gap is only about 4 minutes and shrinking, so we start putting on some pressure in the peloton hoping to get rid of Henao's helpers early.
Kiserlovski opens the attacking on the penultimate hill and all the big names follow after him.
Antón gets a small gap, but Willy stays close to Henao in stead of risking to blow up chasing Antón.
The attacking continues all the way to the top of the final climb, but Ipsen fights bravely for his jersey.
Antón is first into the final 20 km with 33 seconds to Locatelli, the last remaining breakaway rider, and a further 40 seconds to Henao, Ipsen, Kiserlovski and Kreuziger.
With 15 km to go the Crotatian champion moves again. Willy is after him, but Henao doesn’t react!
The two can’t build a lasting gap though and with 10 km to go Igor is alone in front with a minute to the other GC guys.
Henao opens a long sprint for 2nd place with a tired Willy in his wheel.
To our great surprise no one wanted to go past Henao before Ipsen and by then it was too late for the others to take 2nd place and Henao doesn’t even gain bonus seconds for all his hard work.
Willy defends himself bravely but it was an expensive day for the rest of the team losing a lot of time. All that was worth it with Ipsen gaining a few seconds today.
Also with the form Igor is showing at the moment I'm very happy we caught him unaware in the start of the race - otherwise he would have been a very hard man to handle!

Woah, Antón getting close again. You really can't underestimate that guy. One more stage like that and anything is possible. Smart riding by Willy and very good to snatch them bonus seconds from Henao.

Willy did well to defend his advantage today , but he must keep a close eye on Antón as well now

Shonak: Antón is always fiercely strong in the last week of the Vuelta. It was great to take the bonus seconds, if nothing else then for moral!
sutty: You always have to keep an eye on Antón, but hopefully the upcoming stages won't allow him to take back 2 minutes.
Miguel: Igor is the king of come-backs. Always has a bad first week and always ends up on the podium
welker: He is. As usual in the last week of a GT you might say...
VoetsT: That is the only goal of the team!

Vuelta a España
Stage 19: Noja – Bilbao
Another hilly stage means another day where Willy will have to defend his lead fiercely.
We had hoped that a break would get away, but that didn’t really happen so when the first set of climbs began we started squeezing up the pace hoping to get rid of some of Henao and Antóns helpers.
With 50 km to go Weening is in front by less than a minute and 60 riders remain in the peloton.
We keep up the pressure an with 5 km to go of the final climb nothing has yet happened in the peloton.
As could be expected Henao and Antón try 3,5 km from the top but thanks to Chris and Kiserlovski they can’t get rid of Ipsen.
With 3,6 km to the line a group joins them from behind. In there we have Breschel.
Antón is beastly as ever and looks comfortable going into the final 1,5 km while Matti is looking a bit worn after a hard days work.
To our great regret Henao rockets out of the shadow to take the stage win and the 20 seconds that comes with it.
Fortunately Willy digs deep and manages to take 3rd in a close sprint giving him 8 seconds.

It could be much worse. Keeping the pace high seems to be the key for the hilly stages. 25 seconds to Henao for stage 20, keeping an eye on Henao will still be tough enough. If only it wasn't for Antón.

C'mon Willy, 25 seconds won't be enough to take the win from Willy!!!

VoetsT: At least they were in the same group.
sutty: If the team can continue theur good work from the last two stages it should be possible. The final hilly stage tomorrow should be easier. Unless it goes wrong in which case it will go badly wrong
Shonak: Yeah, pacing hard over the hills seem to take the edge of the attacks wihout affetcting Willy too much. He would have lost the lead if it hadn't been for his team mates!
Miguel: It's certainly a comfort that it will take more than the bonus seconds from a stage win from Henao!
The last two stages will be up tomorrow. Right after the award ceremony you will be able to ask any rider on the Vuelta team whatever question you'd like...
