Nordic Cycling | Final Farewell
VoetsT
So the Nordic team is still doing great things in cycling Wink

Willy is now showing everyone that he means business Grin

Another Novo win Grin

How many stage wins do they have?

Jakstar: Taking the three biggest mountain top finishes in the race is certainly a lot better than I expected from him Grin

Ian: 1'34'' is definitely to little for me to get complacent with four hilly stages and no real mountains yet to come!

Shonak: I was quite disappointed that it only gave 14 seconds (+ bonus seconds) in the end as well. Chris and Thomas are really awesome in deed!

VoetsT: Better than ever you might even say Wink (And welcome back, haven't seen you around for a while)

sutty: He does, but sadly so does Henao in hilly terrain so everything can still be turned around...

welker: For victories you can always refer to post #1 of the thread Wink
Anyway Willy has 3, Matti 2, Alex 1 and then the TTT so that makes 7(!)

Rest Day Press Conference

As traditionally we will use the 2nd restday for a press conference.
You all know that we with Hushovd and Madsen retiring and Kristoff leavin us we have gotten a big gap in our cobbles-squad that is not fileld by the signing of young Martin Nielsen.

With that in mind we are extremely happy to announce the signing of Nikola Aistrup (29), who to our great surprise wasn’t offered a new contract at Saxo – Tinkoff, and at the beginning of the Vuelta he still hadn’t found a team.
We believe he belongs on the World Tour so we approached him and quickly found an agreement. Nikola will not only fill the gap in our cobbles-squad but he is also very capable of chasing results for himself as we have seen when racing against him on more than one occasion in the domestic races.
www.feltet.dk/octo_cms/files/Feltet.dk/Billeder/2012/Lob/Post_Danmark_Rundt/6_etape/Post_Danmark_Rundt_2012_6_etape_Nicola_Aistrup_podiet_.jpg

Furthermore we have signed Øystein Jakobsen (20), who finished the season as the best ranked Nordic U23 rider. Øystein is currently strongest in Time-trialling, but we believe that he could turn in to a strong stage racer over time.

At the very last day of the U23 season we were extra aware as we saw the biggest mountain stage of the season. Nicolai Elkjær (22) finished 3rd on the stage so we gave him a contract immediately as well.

We are currently considering singing a Swedish talent, but apart from that next year’s roster is pretty much complete with these signings.

I don't know any of those 3 riders, but I hope they can give you some good results next year

Atlantius
VoetsT: Aistrup is a strong cobbled domestique, who more than once have been rather annoying to race against in Danish NC's and Danish one-day races (stat-page attached). The other two are game-generated so I would be rather surprised if you did know them Wink

Looks like three good signings for the team Smile

Atlantius
sutty: They should be. Aistrup will fill a big gap while the others hopefully will prove to be great talents, though the Nordic countries haven't impressed in this U23 season...

Good to see that there's talent coming up. Aistrup looks like a great signing for the cobbles and a worthy replacement of Kristoff and Hushovd. Hope he can fill the gap left behind them.

Stage 16: Villa Romana La Olmeda – Haro
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-161_zpsf2260bd2.jpg
This is the day the sprinters were thinking about in the mountains.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-162_zps51f72015.jpg
We just let Kittel’s Rabobank team take care of chasing the break since they are no threat to us.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-163_zps0396cfa1.jpg
They do as expected and two distinct trains form towards the final sprint.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-164_zpsa1c0f632.jpg
With 700 m to go Leezer is in front with Appolonio and Kittel behind.
Ludvigsson has delivered Breschel behind, but started a lot further back than could have been wanted so the Dane has a lot of terrain to gain.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-165_zps86c902a7.jpg
Rojas just squeezes ahead of Kittel while Matti does good to finish 5th.

Stage 17: Faustino V – Peña Cabarga
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-17-1_zps8114de54.jpg
With this kind of hilly finish we will have to make it hard from far out in order for Willy to avoid losing time.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-17-2_zps0ff668c9.jpg
As usual we just let the break go since they are no threat to us and it’s not our stage to win. Maaskant, Rubiales and Moreno are the three out there.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-17-3_zpsfb8fa6ff.jpg
With 100 km to go the break has 16 minutes and we start preparing for the hill by sending Alex and Gustav to the front on the flat.

50 km left. The break has 10 minutes and we have reduced the peloton to 69 riders.

25 km left. We’re down to three riders with any energy left and the stage seems to be going to either Rubiales or Moreno.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-17-4_zps7e7dffb7.jpg
Henao comes to the front with 6 km to go but Chris keeps a high enough pace to deter the Colombian from attacking.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-17-5_zps39520160.jpg
Just as the breakers is caught with 1,5 km to go Willy loses contact with Henao and Antón in spite of Chris working hard to protect him.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/08-23-Vuelta-17-6_zps48878637.jpg
Chris tries to do a leadout for Ipsen, but overdoes it so Ipsen cracks but at least Chris just manages to finish ahead of Henao diminishing his harvest of bonus seconds a little.
