Nordic Cycling | Final Farewell
Atlantius
Tour de Suisse

Stage 7: Acquarossa – Sustenpassi1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-7-1_zpsb43ed8ed.jpg
I guess this is what they call a pure mountain stage…
Seeing that Duarte only has two helpers left after yesterday it’s hard to predict how things will pan out.

Johann really wants that mountain jersey so he is off right at the start of this stage.

We expected Duarte to go a little less full retard today but already on the first climb he tells Kruijswijk to keep a hard pace.
The break doesn’t get much of a gap, but Johann gets the first summit.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-7-3_zps8649d108.jpg
Finally the break is allowed away and Nokkvason gets to pick up max points on the next climb as well.

Kritskiy and Tiernan-Locke crack Nokkvason on the following climbs, but he hangs on to pick up a few more points giving him a solid lead in the competition for now.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-7-5_zpsce5b4206.jpg
Vegard attacks on the penultimate climb to see what happens.

Johann stops his quest with 40 km to go and has to economize with his energy to get to the finish line alive.

At the foot of the climb Tiernan-Locke and Kritskiy has 5 minutes to the favourites.

In spite of having been protected by Jesper Hansen, Laengen really suffers on the final climb.
At least he tried.

Stage 8: Lugano – Alp Flixi1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-8-1_zps41afea5a.jpg
Another hard stage, but much lighter than previous days.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-8-2_zps61a7ecf3.jpg
Johann needs to pick up a few more points to be sure he can keep the jersey after today, so the flat-specialists of the team are told to keep the break within reach before the climbs.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-8-3_zpsf0e3419b.jpg
Nokkvason starts the break on the first climb and is accompagnied by Capecchi, Urán and Betancur. Johann is the by far weakest of the four, but he gets four points at the top putting him in the clear even if Duarte comes back and wins the stage.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-09-Suis-8-4_zps43d0fae7.jpg
Once again Vegard has plenty to do trying to hang on to the main group.

Andy Schleck proves that he is ready for the Tour, while Vegard proves that he is not ready for absolute captaincy.

A flat stage to Zürich. Nokkvason just needs to get through the day to win his second WT Mountain Jersey of the season while Edvald hopefully will start showing some form soon.

Shonak
Damn, the team really suffered in these stages. I suppose Vegard Laengen still has a long way to go. At least Johann did a great job bringing home the mountain jersey. Cool

We expected Duarte to go a little less full retard today but already on the first climb he tells Kruijswijk to keep a hard pace.

That line.

Shonak: Yeah, it was a bit of a bummer that neither Laegen or Hansen could do anything, but good that Johann is such a mountain jersey specialist then (as in he's a decent vliber, but hasn't got the physique to be there on the final mountain) Wink

Shame that Vegard didn't secure his top ten on the GC Sad

Atlantius
sutty: It was, but I suppose I would be a spoiled brat if I complained about losing out on a WT-GC top 10 for the first time this far into the season Wink

National Championshios - Time Trial

All the routes were flat, and without much action along the way so you’ll just get the results with a few remarks.

Norsk Mesterskap

In Norway there is only really doubt about who gets 2nd in the TT and this year is no difference as Edvald passes both Wilman and Nordhaug on his way to victory.

That’s seven years in a row now!

Danmarksmesterskabet

In Denmark the bookmakers had us as the top 4 favourites in spite of Quaade being injured.

Willy was the first of our riders in the hot-seat. He left it for Fuglsang, who held the lead until only Alex Rasmussen remained on the course.

Wanting to get the Dannebrog-maillot actually on the road I yelled at Alex that he should take it easy the last km. He did and that puts him in 3rd place and Jakob Fuglsang in red/white.

Svenska Mesterskapen

We hope that Ludvigsson is as ready as he was last year, but Wetterhall could pose a problem in top shape.

Wetterhall was 7 seconds slower on the first intermediate and 14 second slower on the second.

A close race, but Tobias had it covered all the way.

Norsk Mesterskap

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-NM-1_zps41eee880.jpg
Again the championship is raced on a hilly circuit with a few cobbles.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-NM-2_zps0c478ea0.jpg
We followed all the attacks, but no one wanted to work in a break with one of our riders, so instead we made the race hard in coorporation with Joker.

That quickly got rid of Markarskard, who could have posed a danger in the final sprint.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-NM-5_zpscdf6ec80.jpg
On one of the passes of the cobbles Laengen, Hushovd, Nordhaug and Bystrøm were surprisingly split of the front of the group.

Since no team really dedicated themselves to chasing the quartet they ended up with a real gap.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-NM-6_zps49997c16.jpg
Hushovd made his move the last time on the cobbles.

He got a gap at first, but was caught again by Bystrøm.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-NM-7_zpsd468b57b.jpg
Thor might be getting older, but he is not old enough to lose a two-rider sprint against a rider like Sven Erik.

It is somewhat fitting that Thor will get to ride the last half season of his career wearing the Norwegian flag.

Danmarksmesterskabet

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-DM-1_zps27ac335d.jpg
With a completely flat route it looks like one for the sprinters. The best Danish sprinters are riding for other teams (or not in form), so we will try to open up the race.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-DM-2_zps8a3ac166.jpg
Thomas Nybo Riis was our man in the early break.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-DM-3_zps173c2fc2.jpg
Only Blue Water missed out so they had a hard day and with 100 km to go the gap was at 8’30’’ and growing.

Saxo decides to help late in the race, but too late to catch the break.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-DM-4_zps748822fb.jpg
With 25 km to go Thomas decided to try reducing the number of riders in the break with an attack.

Only Tronborg followed him but the two was caught again with 12 km to go.
Time to prepare for a sprint among the breakers.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-DM-5_zps3e39f356.jpg
Thomas did great to hatch on to Sobota’s wheel right at the 3 km mark.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-DM-6_zps9fa3d829.jpg
From there he is kept in second line and can wait for the last 700 m to take a great win.

The rest of the team just rode slowly to the finish allowing the CT-riders to contest the few remaining points.

Svenska Mesterskapen

As usual the Swedes share route with the Danes for the NC.
Ludvigsson is our only realistic bet on a win today as he is both the best sprinter and along with Larsson the only one in shape. IKEA will be highly motivated to challenge us though...

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-SM-1_zps99c4b8c7.jpg
So we worked on front of the peloton all day keeping attacks within reach.

Christofer Stevenson was the last one to get caught.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-SM-2_zps3c908b9c.jpg
Gustav Larsson made the final big pull towards the sprint followed by Löfkvist and Ludvigsson.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-SM-3_zps235017d1.jpg
All of the sudden pretty much the entire IKEA team started sprinting up next to Tobias and he couldn’t get the space to get out from Löfkvists wheel.

A cunning tactic to block the entire road.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/06-24-SM-4_zps31af6f17.jpg
Wetterhall gets a huge advantage, but Tobias just makes it past him on the line to take the win!
