Another flat stage where we will have to be awake.

Good old Jens Erik Madsen jumped into today’s break along with Steegsmans, Barla and Vissers.

With 100 km to go the gap is 8 minutes and Marantes have joined the break.

The sprinter teams keep things under control and with 60 km to go the gap is down to 4’50’’

40 km and 3’30’’

With 25 km to the line the gap approaches one minutes and Madsen gives it one last go with Barla and Vissers.

Löfkvist in the green mountain jersey does a brilliant job placing Breschel of the sprint.

Surprisingly Rabo backs off just past the 4 km mark and Thomas is first into the final 3 km with Breschel and Guardini in his wheel.

They get passed by Leezer and Matti jumps to the Rabo train and is brilliantly placed for the last km.

We decided to let a relatively harmless break get away.

Brian Matzen crashed on a small downhill section with 150 km to go. He manages to geet back up and remain in touch with the peloton, but time will tell how hurt he is.

The team does a great job to at least make it a hard day for the pure sprinters.

With 110 km to go we have done most of the work all day and kept the break at five minutes gap. Sagan is still sitting right at the front so we decides to let his team do a bit of the work.

They take the lead but slows down quite a lot, when Boonen decides to jump away.

With 90 km to go Boonen has 1’30’’ to the front group and 5’30’’ to the peloton. So back to work for my guys…

On the final categorized climb Troels Vinther went on the attack and Brian followed leaving the sork in the peloton up to the other teams again. The five man break is just under five minutes ahead.

With 34 km to the line Matzen is reeled back in by an alliance of several teams while the original break is still 2’30’’ in front.

Sagan has Cancellara, Rowe and Pires working for him, but nothing much happens to the gap so Löfkvist decides to attack with 20 km to go and 2 minutes to the break.

Unfortunately Thomas hits a stone on the road and crashes hard soon after.

Yet another crash in the back as a result of the craze chase. Among others this eliminates Andy Schleck from the GC and Appolonio from the potential bunch sprint. It leaves 72 riders in the front group.

With 4 km to go Boonen, Marangoni and Vandenbergh still holds just over a minute, so we decide to try and put in an early attack.

Kittel and Sagan holds on to Breschel, but they can’t quite close the gap to the front group.

Boonen takes a superior win, but loses a lot of time by starting to celebrate early.

VoetsT: They're OK to continue at least. Time will tell if Matzen is ok to compete for GC, but Löfkvist is out of that and will have no chance to defend his win from last year.

Ian: Actually happy Boonen took the win as well rather than the ones unwilling to do any work all day. A brave effort got rewarded - and it's always nice to see NC's win!

Miguel: It does not, but he's doing ok considering the competition. We'll see what happens when we hit the real hills...

On paper the hardest stage of the race…

Thomas seems to have recovered nicely from his crash and tries to get a spot in the break today.

It appears he is still affected by the crash as he is not able to hang on with the others over the first mountain. Instead Bøchman counterattacks and gets up to the other breakers.

With 100 km to go Lasse has a gap of 7-39’’ along with 8 other riders including the likes of Gallopin and Mollema.

On the top of the penultimate climb the break has 73 km to the finish and 5’30’’ to the peloton where Sagan’s helpers has been forced to work more than they’re used to.

5 km from the last summit the break has a gap of 3’17’’ to the peloton and a total of 43 km to goal.

Things start cracking in the peloton and so does Breschel, who seems to have found his limits as a climber.
Matzen is still looking very strong though as are Bøchman in the break where Andy Schleck now has joined up.

With a bit of luck Breschel just manages to get over the top in the same group as Sagan and Matzen.

Going into the final 30 km Bøchman’s group has more than three minutes to the peloton.
Lasse is by far the best placed rider in the break!

Schleck attacks from the break with 13 km to go and Bøchman chases him down.

With 5 km to go the break has 2’14’’ to the peloton. Looks like Lasse will take the lead! Guess that why it's always up to him to keep things together in the break.

Having focused on making the win as big as possible Bøchman had absolutely nothing left for the sprint.

Matzen and Breschel finished safely in Sagan’s group and Brian took the lead in the young riders competition as well.

A good day, that changes the strategy for the last two stages quite a bit…
