2016 Team Presentation

A New Sponsor Finally Found

As you have known for a while Volvo decided to leave our team prematurely. In the mean time we have been negotiating with several companies in a time made more complicated by the forming of Statoil – Stoerensoe.

Fortunately we have been able to find a company with both the will and the funds to help us move in to the future on the same level as this year. The new sponsor can’t fill Volvo’s role we have convinced our old sponsor to let us keep the team cars.

In fact our new main sponsor can’t contribute with much more than money and giving us a chance to promote the fight against Diabetes. A fight that can be handled partly by promoting a more active lifestyle and partly by the products of Novo Nordisk.

We are proud to present to you our new jersey:

The Team

As for the roster you know all the major names as nothing much have changed there.
Apart from those we have kept our stagiaires Joel Wallin and Sonny Bak, who both showed good promises in their time on the team.

To help Nokkvasson feel more at home away from Iceland we have signed his childhood friend Gúdjon Olafurson. Joakim Arntsen and Johannes Karjalainen completes the roster.
All of them are very talented, but can look forward to a year mainly in the role of the helper.

Thanks everyone. This will be our first season as favourites. The team is strong, but not much stronger than the likes of Nissan and Rabobank (as you will see later) and we haven't got any beats the like of Boonen, Antón or Schleck so it's gonna be an interesting season...

Also happy you like the new sponsor Wink

Transfer Overview

A number of riders have decided to change teams due to either relegation or failure to promote.

Not joining/LeavingNew team
Bauke MollemaClub La SantaBelisol
Ben SwiftAtlas PersonalColnago - CSF Inox
José Joaquín RojasO2 (Endura Racing)Team Santander
Mark CavendishSharpTeam ISD - Ferrari
Rigoberto UránTissotTeam ISD - Ferrari
Fabio DuarteOrangeVacansoleil - DCM
Philippe Gilbert-FDJ - BigMat

Outside these transfers Volkswagen have spent the last year transforming from a Russian team (Katusha) to a German team. That transformation have finally come through.

The management let all the free Russians go and replaced them with the most interesting Germans out of contract and buying a few of the Germans riding on worse teams than they deserve.
Germany is back on the map!

World Tour Teams

Astana Pro Cycling
Even though they have lost a key rider in Van den Broeck they have more than compensated for their losses with the signings of Sicard for the stage races and Vinther for the cobbles.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Astana16_zps85096a84.jpg

Belisol
They lost their main sponsor, but that’s pretty much the only thing they have lost. Keeping their main riders, except for a losing a declining Greipel, and adding Bauke Mollema makes this a very strong team.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Belisol16_zpscb7d8210.jpg

Cofidis, le credit en ligne
The French team have lost one of their biggest talent in Geniez, but have replaced him with Keukeleire making the team more varied than last year. One of the teams that could end up doing very well again this year.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Cofidis16_zps871d5cc9.jpg

Colnago – CSF Inox
The strongest CT-team of last year performing well in both WT and CT races. They have lost Pozzovivo, but the signings of Van den Broeck and Swift should be able to make up for that. They should have every chance to stay on the WT.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Colnago16_zpse065eff4.jpg

Colombia – Coldeportes
With Duarte and Fränk Schleck gone Colombia had to get creative and signed Hesjedal and Sconamiglio instead. Not quite the same class of riders, but they still have some strong domestic climbers able to score enough points to ensure survival on the WT.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Colombia16_zps89bf311a.jpg

Commonwealth Bank – GreenEdge
What to do when you lose the Tour de France winner? Sign the King of the Cobbles…
This is a team for the flats, capable of supporting Boonen and Appolonio perfectly, but if they win the Tour I'd expect the UCI to close them down...
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Commonwealth16_zps68d8e7cf.jpg

Euskaltel – Euskadi
The Basque team lost their three biggest stars in De Gendt, Poels and Sicard. Replacing them with Goss seems a dangerous choice for this team. They need their captains to surprise if they want to survive this season.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Euskaltel16_zps7ba6daac.jpg

FDJ – BigMat
They need Gilbert to find his 2011-self in order to survive one more year. Seems like a dangerous bet, but perhaps his curse is gone with the rainbows...
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/FDJ16_zps9b0d2563.jpg

Liquigas – Cannondale
A solid team last year, now strengthened with Pozzovivo. They should get some good results without having to worry about relegation.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Liquigas16_zpsc3b2559a.jpg

Movistar
The Spanish team continues the line of having a lot of strong riders, but no real favourites in any terrain. Why not? It has been a success so far!
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Movistar16_zpsa9ce4ec9.jpg

Nissan
Once again Nissan has lost important riders and replaced them brilliantly. Nibali could not ask for stronger support and it will be interesting to see Van Garderen back on the highest level after a year with Team Nippo.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Nissan16_zps17b0c23e.jpg

Novo Nordisk – SAS
One of the strongest teams last year. And the captains are all at an age where they’re only getting stronger!
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Novo16_zps3786198f.jpg

Omega Pharma – QuickStep
Two years in a row they have just avoided relegation. They look like a certain last place on the WT-classification unless some of their many outsiders for the cobbled races can perform miracles.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Omega16_zpsc4c2d81a.jpg

Rabobank Cycling Team
Loosing Cancellara and Kruijswijk is never an advantage, but even though they haven’t really signed any big names they seem to have the depth needed to still get plenty of wins in all terrains.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Rabobank16_zps8c285f69.jpg

Team ISD – Ferrari
The Italian team avoided relegation by only two points last year, so something needed to happen. Signing Cunego, Urán and Cavendish seems like a good way to start scoring some more points…
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Ferrari16_zpsfcc8bb59.jpg

Team Santander
Not really any great climbers left on the former team Sky, but Sagan, Cancellara and Froome should score plenty of points in other terrains. Rojas is back on the WT to make the Spanish sponsor a bit happier.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Santander16_zpsb379e5a4.jpg

Team Saxo – Tinkoff
Bjarne Riis has a capability of always bouncing back. The Schlecks were replaced by Contador. Contador by Nibali and now Tour de France Winner Andy Schleck is back on the Danish/Russian team. Meanwhile Gallopin is developing in to a major favourite for the cobbled classics.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/Saxo16_zps9d108fc3.jpg

Vacansoleil – DCM
Last year this team was all about Cavendish. Now they are suddenly focused on the climbs with the signings of Duarte, Kruijswijk and Di Luca.

Team Presentations

Noteworthy Continental Teams

Alstom
Not the strongest team around, but with a bit of luck Rolland could make a “Duarte” and secure promotion along with some good results on the cobbles from Turgot.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Alstom16_zpsd063be99.jpg

Belavia
A fairly new team on the circuit, but a team with an exceptionally depth thanks to focusing on nationalities not a lot of other teams are focusing on. The late signing of Siutsou gives them that last edge, that can score them a lot of point – much like we saw Whirlpool last year.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Belavia16_zpsd32d01de.jpg

Club La Santa – Cantabria Infinita
The strongest Spanish CT for a good few years have slowly grown stronger year by year alongside their Croatian captain Kiserlovski. Now he is in his prime and with a bit of luck they could get some very noteworthy results.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-LaSanta16_zps90affe64.jpg

Saur – Sojasun
One of the strongest CT-teams last year and nothing much have changed for this season. They should be able to battle for promotion but might blow it by riding too many World Tour Races.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Saur16_zpsc81b3217.jpg

Team Selle Italia
The team got relegated by a margin of only two points. They have managed to hold on to most of their captains while signing some more interesting names and have a lot more depth in the roster than most of the CT-competition.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-SelleItalia16_zpsfe27c7f6.jpg

SES Astra – Magic-Sportfood.de
Jeanneson, Roche and Olivier are all riders, who can do a lot of damage in continental races. On top of that they probably won’t waste a lot of race days getting destroyed in WT-races.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-SesAstra16_zpsb69e9699.jpg

Sharp
Last year the team raced almost every WT-race resulting in a very low amount of points. If they focus a bit more on races where they actually can do something they have the riders to mix in the battle for promotion.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Sharpe16_zps02464b50.jpg

Shimano
Two years ago they were a WT-team. Now they’re deteriorating fast. They have some strong riders, but lack depth and winners.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Shimano16_zps22e1d065.jpg

Statoil - Stoerensoe
The Fusion between Christina Watches – Onfone and Team Øster Hus – Ridley have resulted in a very strong team. A lot of riders capable of scoring points and some interesting talent to back them up.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Statoil16_zps5dc2bd4f.jpg

Tissot
Relegated last year after leaving it up to Urán to score all the points, they will be determined to get back in the WT, but are in risk of getting too many wildcards to score enough points in CT-races.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Tissot16_zpsbf29bb5e.jpg

Volkswagen
The former Katusha team have spent the last year transforming from a Russian team to a German one. Mainly by not prolonging with Russians and signing most of the Germans looking for contract, but also by trading Russians for Germans on other CT-teams. On top of that the team bosses attracted Sergio Henao, who should be a real force in the Continental Races.
Spoiler
I helped a bit making the team German, but Henao and Greipel are both down to the PCM Transfer Brain...
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Volkswagen16_zps9affbd10.jpg

Team Whirlpool – PKN Orlen
Last year they surprised everyone by scoring a lot of points. They have lost some of their biggest scorers, but still have Stybar and their new signing Oss. No one expected anything from them last year so it’s hard to say what they can do this year…
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/CT-Whirlpool16_zps44128c33.jpg

Nordic Continental Teams

Blue Water Cycling
Jonas Aaen Jørgensen showed some great things in late 2015 and will be a very interesting rider to follow alongside several talented Danish youngsters and Wynants should the team get to race any cobbled races.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/DK-BlueWater16_zpsdcd76aa4.jpg

Christina Watches Development Team
The youngsters from Christina Watches – Onfone, who didn’t get a spot on the new team. A lot of talent, but probably not a lot of wins…
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/DK-Christina16_zps396e5c61.jpg

DONG Energy – Himmerland
Viganò and Celis are fast enough to get some wins and Lund is not a bad climber considering the level of the team.
Spoiler

Ikea Cykling
The Swedish team have taken on a lot of talented riders this year. Not only Swedes, but also three Finnish riders and then Kvasina and Rensburg to score some points. Still also a solid team with good depth for the domestic races.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/SE-Ikea16_zps42d545e2.jpg

Jardar Sykling
A solid team where the Norwegian captains are polstered by a couple of foreigners.
Spoiler

Joker Merida
A group of solid foreigners supported by a bunch of Norwegians. A team that should get some decent results, but only few points for Norway in the nations ranking.
Spoiler
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/NO-Joker16_zpsfaa6a535.jpg

A lot of talented Danes capable of great things given the chance.
Spoiler

The riders left out of the big team after the fusion. We shouldn’t expect much, but they have the capabilities to shine in moments.

Can't wait for the new season. love the jersey. A good idea bringing the Diabetes company into it.

and thats 2 icelandic riders now. And you have a top team. Can't wait to see you win a Grand Tour this year Smile

The Rider
Good luck with the new season, the changes look like they will spice things up.

Strange that Volvo didn't want to renew their sponsorship despite the great success of the team... although I much prefer the new strip/ new sponsor.

Also it will be interesting to see if any of the new riders coming into the squad from the Nordic lands will have their own say in races.

Maybe Greenland will become a country in its own right! Shock

Jesleyh
Some nice teams have been formed for sure!

Great team you've got there, hope they'll achieve a lot Wink

Still a mystery to me how Kelderman is that sucky on TTs though Pfft

Jakstar: Thanks. The new season should get going over the weekend.

The Rider: Guess they just didn't sell enough cars by promoting cycling Wink

Jesleyh: Thanks. I swear I haven't touched Wilco's limits or stats, but strange in deed he's such a bad TT'er (relatively). A great climber though!

MrUfo: Thanks, glad you like it

Movistar, Rabobank and Commonwealth Bank – GreenEdge have a good collaboration in the peloton and with 45 km to go the gap is down to 3’34’’

The sprinter teams seem to have it under control as the gap goes under two minutes with 27 km to go for the break.

With 10 km to the finish it’s Riis and Sørensen 12 seconds ahead of the closest followers and 45 seconds ahead of the peloton lead by Rabobank for Kittel and with Boasson Hagen in second line ready for a sprint finish.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-1-8_zpsad701d61.jpg

Stage 2: Lobethal – Stirling
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-1_zpse8858487.jpg
First taste of the Australian hills. We’ll see if Edvald is strong enough to mix in the finish or if everything is up to Chris today.

i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-2_zps264bac51.jpg
Today Bøchman joins in on the early break.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-3_zpsed941f4e.jpg
The other teams control things harshly today, but Lasse just laststo take the KOM.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-4_zps07409680.jpg
Commonwealth Bank – GreenEdge control things for the next long run, while both Edvald and Chris says they have had better days.

With 30 km to go ISD and Movistar come to the front and 6 km later Chris decides to put them to work.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-5_zps1994baab.jpg
He can’t make it last so with 8 km to the line Bøchman is off in stead.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-6_zps919954da.jpg
His gap never get that big either, but it makes for plenty of all-out attacks from the captains behind with Chris and Edvald following things closely.

Everyone is pretty much burned out for the sprint though and going in to the final km it looks like Bewley against Mollema.
i1316.photobucket.com/albums/t605/Atlantius_PCM/2016%20Novo-SAS/01-10-TdU-2-7_zpsb44ba7f8.jpg
They can’t hold the advantage and in the end Kiryinka takes it while Edvald and Chris disappoints.

The best news has to be that Thomas was the fastest young rider putting him comfortably in the lead of that competition.
