Il Lombardia
Time for the last big classic of the year. Last year Fuglsang came 3rd, this year we will aim to show Matti’s new jersey in the best possible way.
In the early part of the day we mainly worry about protecting the World Champion, while waiting for our moment.
Then when Michael Valgren Andersen suddenly found himself more than three minutes ahead of the peloton we sent a few guys to the front to help control the break.
Through the work of Riis, Nokkvason and our two stagiaires the peloton was reduced to 65 riders with 100 km to go.
With 77 km to go and the two worst climbs overwith we have Riis in front of the peloton and no breakway ahead. 44 riders remain in contention.
Fabio Felline attacks with 22 km to go. We immediately send Matzen and Sørensen to the front to make sure he doesn't get a gap worth anything.
Felline tries again, but Chris is setting a ruthless pace over the final hill.
Brambilla manages to get a small gap, but Chris just keep on pulling in the main group.
6 km from goal Brambilla has 12 seconds to Chris, who pulled away from the rest on the top.
He has 29 seconds to an 8-rider group containing Matzen and Breschel.
4,5 km to the line and it’s Brambilla, Froome, Sørensen, Matzen and Breschel forming the front group 33 seconds ahead of the chasers.
Chris takes on the duty of leadout man today.
And that’s how the Rainbow jersey is supposed to be worn!

Miguel: Yeah, this DB is from early 2012 when Froome only had the Vuelta 2011, so he hasn't quite developed the same way as IRL. Here he is mainly a TT'er, who is also quite strong on hills and had a good shot at a GC Top 10 in most GT's if he is in shape.
MrUfo: He is. No "Curse of the Rainbow" here!
sutty: He really is. Of course it helps a bit that the (other) really big names doesn't really start in Lombardia...
Ian: In deed. A massive effort by the entire team!

VoetsT: Probably overdid the planning of super-domestiques for this race a bit compared to the competition

Rider of the Month: The UCI did not name a rider of the month for September
Nordic rider of the month: Matti Breschel, Volvo – SAS. A world championship and a major classics win makes Matti Breschel talk-of-the-town all over the world at the moment.
Matti Breschel, Volvo – SAS
First of all congratulations in becoming the first Danish Road Race World Champion. How does it feel?
I haven’t ever done drugs, but I imagine this is the feel people are trying to achieve…
We haven’t seen much of you over the summer and then suddenly you come along winning the rainbow and Il Lombardia. How?
I have been extremely fortunate to have the team supporting and trusting me throughout the season. We didn’t plan this as a season where I should go from one win to the next all year, but rather go for the really big ones – and that even some races I haven’t been allowed by my former team to target exclusively.
I think any cyclist with only three wins in a season would be thrilled to have those three being Milano – Sanremo, the Worlds Championships and Il Lombardia. But who knows – perhaps I still have something to show in October. I definetely love riding in my new jersey and I want to bring it honour.
So no holiday just yet?
No, I might ride a few of the smaller classics and then I’m off to show the jersey in China. Whether I’ll go for the win myself or help some of the guys, who have ridden their heart out to bring me where I am depends on their form. If they have a shot at winning I really want to repay them for all their help!
Now that’s a true gentleman talking. Good luck – you have already brought the jersey more glory than Gilbert did in three years.

The Norwegian rider Lars Petter Nordhaug have been looking for a new contract for a long time. Volvo - SAS wouldn't offer him a contract at first due to their transfer strategy of only singing talent from this point on. He has now signed with

Ian: Thanks. You're welcome to nominate it for the Story-WC when that time comes
Miguel: Hard to argue against at WC and Lombardia...
Whirlpool is doing amazingly in a lot of CT-races. I can't really figure out how though as the riders really doesn't have the stats to suggets them performing at this level...
They won't promote though as they aren't placed equally well in the CQ-ranking (fortunately).
VoetsT: Thanks!
I think I'll go over October fairly quickly without very elaborate reports to get on to the next season.

VoetsT: Thanks
sutty: It certainly wasn't the hardest pick this month (even though we had a great Vuelta as well)

SSJ2Luigi: Yeah. With him and Kohler they have actually been the best Dutch CT-team this season - by quite some margin...
Spoiler Will be changed for next season though as I find it annoying having to edit Rabo CT out of races because they are given wildcard to WT-races
Tour of Beijing will come tomorrow deciding the final details about relegation. Four teams are within 50 WT-points, so it's gonna be close!
