Nordic Cycling | Final Farewell
Atlantius
World Championships - RR

As the only Falcon – Norheim rider Daniel Krutzfeldt have been selected for the World Championships. Daniel will be a helper for Matti Breschel. Since only a few Danes are in top form Daniel will be one of the most important helpers in the race. In the road race the Nordic hopes lie on Matti Breschel, Löfkvist and Hushovd, who have shown great form lately in contrast to Boasson-Hagen, who disappointed greatly in the TT.

The mandatory early break gets participation from both Denmark and Norway in form of Nicki Sørensen and Fredrik Wilmann. The break quickly gets a 5 min. lead, but Italy, Spain and Belgium are keeping it between five and six minutes.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/09-23-VMRR3_zps086ca289.png

With 70 km to go the lead remains at 6 minutes.
In the peloton Spain and Belgium are pushing hard for Rodriguez and Gilbert and the peloton starts breaking. Both Boasson-Hagen and Hushovd lose contact and Löfkvist has crashed out of the race. Now everything is up to the Danish riders, who all remain in the favourites group.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/09-23-VMRR5_zpse778d76c.png

With 17 km to go Gilbert attacks along with Nibali. Breschel remains in the pack, confident that the Spanish team will work hard to catch them. With 6 km to go everything is brought back together and Breschel haven’t spend too much energy on the chase.
Urán attack with 3 km to go and Matti goes after him. But so does Gilbert and Rodriguez, and on a finish like this no one can beat the Belgian.

Matti did well today, but we have to admit that on a finish like this no one can beat Gilbert. A 4th place is still good even though he is disappointed right now. I was also very happy to see the two Continental riders Guldhammer and Kreutzfeldt be there for Matti right untill 10 km from the finishing line.

He's only called Gustav Larsson not Gustav "Erik" Larsson. Erik is his middle name! Pfft

4th is very nice for Breshel!

+1 Yes indeed Wink

Daggen: Had actually just put Gustav Larsson first, but then ended up writing his full name.

Ian & Sutty: Sure is. But Matti always does god at the WC

Circuit Franco-Belge

Last sponsor goal of the season. Norheim want us to win a stage, and we will do our best.

Stage 1
It looks like the classic morning break followed by bunch sprint.
A 9-man break gets going as predicted and Søren Nissen uses the break as a platform to get the Mountain jersey. In spite of several attempts before the finish it ended up as a Bunch sprint. Sadly Hushovd haven’t joined the team quite yet…

Stage results:
1. Thor Hushovd, BMC
2. John Degenkolb, Argos - Shimano
3. Alex Rasmussen, Garmin - Sharp
9. Kasper Jebjerg, Falcon – Norheim
Mountains: Søren Nissen

Stage 2
A few more hills, but nothing that should affect Hushovd/BMC.
Bäckstedt does his best to get away, but that break is not allowed, so in the end Nissen finds himself in a break again today. Gave him the chance to defend his jersey, and he did so just fine even though Nys and Poos did their best to take it.
In the finish the team delivered Jebjerg just about perfectly for the sprint, but again he doesn’t stand much of a chance against the top sprinters here.

Stage results:
1. John Degenkolb, Argos - Shimano
2. Jürgen Roelandts, Lotto - Belison
3. Thor Hushovd, BMC
9. Kasper Jebjerg, Falcon – Norheim
Mountains: Søren Nissen

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/09-26-FranBel2_zps48848efe.png

Stage 3
The flattest stage of the race (and that’s saying a lot). We should not expect to be able to gain much today, but Nissen goes in the early attack and wins the lonely mountain sprint of the day. He now has a lead of 26 pts and the race only has 24 pts left to win.
When the bunch sprint came on the team placed Jebjerg in Argos – Shimanos train right in front of Degenkolb and next to Hushovd. On the bright side Degenkolb only just passed Kasper, unfortunately Argos failed their sprint train today…

Stage results:
1. Jürgen Roelandts, Lotto - Belisol
2. Robert Wagner, Radioshack - Nissan
3. Aidis Kruopis, Orica - GreenEdge
9. Kasper Jebjerg, Falcon – Norheim
Mountains: Søren Nissen

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/09-26-FranBel32_zps96f7f405.png

Stage 4
With 7 passes over a steep hill this is both the last and best chance of getting rid of some of the top sprinters before the finish.
The plan almost works as a break gets to decide who wins. Waytens attacked from far out and the break underestimated him thinking they would catch up with him again…

Stage results:
1. Zico Waytens, Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator
2. Dennis Van Winden, Rabobank
3. Martijn Maarskant, Garmin - Sharp
4. Kjell Carlström, Falcon – Norheim
6. Daniel Kreutzfeldt, Falcon – Norheim

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/09-26-FranBel4_zpsc380083c.png

Final Standing:
1. Jürgen Roelandts, Lotto – Belisol
2. John Degenkolb, Argos – Shimano
3. Thor Hushovd, BMC
8. Kasper Jebjerg, Falcon – Norheim

Mountains: Søren Nissen, Falcon – Norheim
Points: Jürgen Roelandts, Lotto – Belisol
Young rider: John Degenkolb, Argos – Shimano
Team: Falcon – Norheim

Monthly status – September

Well we won a stage, the GC, the mountain jersey, young riders jersey and the team classification in Tour of Britain along with a mountain jersey and the team classification in Circuit Franco-Belge. That is certainly approved – even though we would have liked a stage win in Franco-Belge as well. Acqua & Sapone have had a very good month and have passed us on the CQ-ranking, but we still have a solid lead of 300 pts to the third best Continental team Landbouwkredit, and with only half a month left of the season it is looking good in terms of promotion.

Rider of the month:
Philip Gilbert, BMC. The newspaper haven’t named a “Rider of the month for September”, but with Gilbert winning both Canadian classics and the World Championship he would have won the title easily.

CQ Rankings:
1. Cadel Evans, BMC Racing, 2904 pts
2. Tom Boonen, Omega Pharma – Quick-Step, 2508 pts
3. Mark Cavendish, Team Sky, 2258 pts
46. Kasper Jebjerg, Falcon – Norheim, 685 pts

1. BMC Racing, 7523 pts
2. Radioshack – Nissan, 7342 pts
3. Team Sky, 7190 pts
18. Acqua & Sapone, 2945 pts
19. Falcon – Norheim, 2835 pts
20. Landbouwkredit – Euphony, 2541 pts

1. Spain, 10117 pts
2. Belgium, 8694 pts
3. Italy, 7138 pts
8. Denmark, 3859 pts
13. Norway, 2911 pts
21. Sweden, 1243 pts
33. Finland, 508 pts

Our sponsors haven’t set any goals for us in October, but we will ride as many races we can doing our best to get as many ranking points as possible and hopefully a win.

Landbouwkredit need a small miracle to promote, and we eill do our best to make sure that doesn't happen!

Sparkassen Münsterland Giro

For a long time Saxo Bank – Tinkoff Bank kept the peloton together, but in the end they decided to send Boaro and Michael Mørkøv in a break instead. A break formed by Falcon - Norheims stagiaire Erik McDermott. In the end no one is able to match Boaro when he attacked, and even though Falcon – Norheim did a lot of hard work in the peloton resulting in only 29 riders in the group chasing Boaro the Italian was never really threatened. 19 riders were left to sprint for the 2nd place.

Result:
1. Manuel Boaro, Saxo Bank – Tinkoff Bank
2. Tino Thömel, NSP – Ghost
3. Jens Erik Madsen, Falcon – Norheim

Paris – Bourges

It took quite a long time and a lot of tries to get away and just as it seemed no one would get away 7 riders were given a free pass. Among them Jesper Mørkøv.
The sprinterteams failed in their chase allowing the best of the breakaway riders to keep their lead just till the finish line.

Result:
1. Paul Voss, Endura Racing
2. Julien Fouchard, Cofidis
3. Stijn Neirynck, Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator
20. Jens Erik Madsen, Falcon - Norheim

Coppa Sabatini

Mostly flat, but with a few small but steep hills and an uphill finish. With sprinters like Sagan in the pack we should look towards deciding the race in something other than a bunch sprint.
Having the massive favorite for this race in Sagan, Liquigas – Cannondale kept the tempo high throughout the race never allowing a break to get more then 1’30’’
One attack after another challenged Liquigas and forced them and Lampre to the front. And no one ever had a chance in the struggle against these two Italian giants. Riders were allowed to go in breaks but never out of sight.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/10-04-Sabatini1_zps7ef4d599.png

That is for the first half of the race anyway. Until Kruziger end Rujano took the lead of a break of total 14 riders. Among them Ricky Jørgensen, who proved to be massively overmatched when the struggle intensified.
When all but one breakaway rider gets caught by the peloton the chase loses momentum for a moment and Søren Nissen sees the opportunity and attacks to catch the lone rider Bisolti. He almost catches up with Bisolti, but the marginals are not on his side. Still the peloton haven’t been able/willing to organize the hunt properly and Nissen takes a certain 2nd in the race.

Result:
1. Alessandro Bisolti, Team Idea
2. Søren Nissen, Falcon - Norheim
3. Jérôme Pineau, OmegaPharma - QuickStep

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/10-04-Sabatini3_zpsa03d71f2.png

Some wonderful racing today. Bisolto worked hard in the break and never stopped believing the Liquigas-Lampre alliance could be beaten. He really deserved the win. And Søren showed some really good winners instincts when attacking at the exact right moment, and he was closer to the victory than he was to the 3rd place. He should be proud of this result!
