Nordic Cycling | Final Farewell
Atlantius
Apparently I hadn't salvaged stuff quite as good as I thought. If anyone could upload a regen.xml containing Icelandic names that would be great as I can't generate proper talent names for Iceland without that.

I believe they are included in the PCM12 file?

No just got a bit hung up on other things, while hoping someone would post a regen-xml file with Icelandic names as thath one was lost in teh crash. I'll just improvise any Icelandic names I will need in the future myself tough.

The first two stages of Tour Down Under have been raced and should be up within a day or so

Heading into 2015

After quite a long off-season the team is now ready to set sails for a new year of cycling.

This is by far the strongest pure-Nordic team ever seen in cycling and with the talents on the squad it can only get better in the future!

Right from the start we aimed at being the worlds best team at some point. Up till now we have only dreamt big - 2015 is the time to aim big!

Not that we expect to win the WT-rankings or anything, but with these riders we will aim at being serious contenders in all terrains. On top of that both Gustav Larsson and Alex Rasmussen will be targeting the World Championship TT and Matti Breschel will be going all-in for the RR. Edvald Boasson Hagen could be another good bet for the RR, but he will mainly be targeting the green jersey in the Tour de France and then preparing as well for the WC's as possible.

We will most likely enter all three GT's with two equal captains. These roles will be shared between Jakob Fuglsang, Thomas Löfkvist, Chris Anker Sørensen, Fredrik Kessiakoff, Vegard Stake Laengen and Willy Ipsen. Who gets to ride which race will be determined when er have had time to examine this years routes more closely.

The Roster

Special notice goes to the rider at the bottom of the list. Johann Nokvasson os the young rider our doctor told us about seeing when on cycling holiday in Iceland. Back then the doc couldn't catch up with him to get hold of him, but now we have finally found him and given him a contract making him the first Icelandic rider in the pro-peloton. He has a lot to learn, but a great potential to bring honour to his country.

The Jersey

Obviously with a new set of sponsors we have also gotten a brand new jersey, that will be used for the first time during the Tour Down Under:

Nice jersey Atlantius Smile

Ian Butler
Nice presentation! Though I must say I'm a bit disappointed that Jesper Hansen won't be leading a GT Sad

But great, amazing team Wink

Nice team presentation and beautifull jersey as well.
The team is getting stronger every year Smile

Jakstar: Thanks, I'm fairly happy with the result myself as well.

Ian Butler: I know, depending on how things pan out he sshould get some chances in the smaller stage races and perhaps going for the youth jersey in a GT, but I have a lot of climbers on very much the same level. A lot can happen over the course of a season with development and injuries Wink

ThVoets: Thanks, the team are surely getting stronger and stonger, but the goal from year 1 was to one day be the best team in the world. We're not quite there yet, but the rest will be done by talent development rather than on the transfer market

Everyone: Thanks for getting back so fast in spite of the lack of activity in this story for so long. It really means a lot!

I'm uploading stage 1+2 from TDU as we speak...

Santos Tour Down Under

In spite of completely destroying the race last year Thor haven't been able to find his early form and thus he will not be defending his win.

In stead Edvald Boasson Hagen will be aiming for the win in his first race for the team.
The sponsors want us to get the points jersey. Since Eddy is one of the fastest guys here he will do his best to pick up points at the end of stages, but intermediate sprints can be important too. Jens Erik Madsen will be given the job of covering these from attacks.

Stage 1: Clare - Tanunda
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-10_zps990de1ac.jpg
Everything points to a bunch sprint in this first stage. Time will tell if we're able to handle that...

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-11_zpse38db3e9.jpg
No one managed to get away early on, and when the peloton slowed down at the foot of the hill I told Brian Steen Matzen to go for the points and no one even challenged him. The young Dane will certainly enjoy riding in the climbers jersey tomorrow!
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-12_zps2fd075e1.jpg
On the intermediates Jens Erik does great to pull away and by a massive effort last over both sprints putting him in the points jersey.
The peloton decides it's fine to have Jens Erik out there and after a while he is joined by four other riders. They wont have much of a chance of winning though.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-13_zpsa7662d84.jpg
With 20 km to go everything has been brought back together and Saxo – Tinkoff starts setting up the sprint for Goss.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-14_zps89aa2760.jpg
The high tempo from Saxo split the peloton with 11 km to go, 55 riders remain in the front group. Fortunately we only have Madsen lost behind.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-15_zps100e7bd3.jpg
Bak and Stevenson does a their best to keep Edvald near the front, but for the last 3 km he's on his own.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-16_zps79ffc985.jpg
Goss goes to the front already with more than 2 km to go, while Boasson Hagen is not placed quite where I would have hoped.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-17_zps82e3f8b4.jpg
Final 1,3 km Canuti has taken the lead and I'm yelling at Edvald to give it all he has.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-18_zpsf7f78275.jpg
In the end he's just too badly placed to beat Kittel. We still have a lot of work to do to learn how to set up for a bunch sprint win...

Looks like another bunch sprint - and probably another day of learning for us...

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-22_zps3039f4c1.jpg
Once gain the early break has a hard time getting a proper gap. Still Jens Erik manage to win the first points sprint ahead of Arashiro expanding his lead in the competition.
The break is caught with 85 km to go, but a new attempt is quickly formed.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-23_zpsab9af9f7.jpg
This time Matzen takes part hoping to get a few more points for the climbers jersey.
Once again the peloton plays hard-ball and the trio never get more than 1'30''. Still enough to act as a stepping stone for the KOM though and Brian is starting to look good in that competition.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-24_zpse3ccd97d.jpg
Once gain everything points to a bunch sprint finish as Rabobank is preparing a second win for Kittel
To be honest we did a terrible job for Edvald today.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2015%20Volvo%20Sas/N-TDU-25_zpsd2f4692c.jpg
To put it simply we just got to the front way to late while Rabobank kept a very high tempo in which the riders couldn't find their calm to organize their effort. They were all there though which is some sort of advance from yesterday...
