Nordic Cycling | Final Farewell
Atlantius
krisa: i will do my best. I'll be controlling Denmark, so there's nothing more I can do for Gustav Larsson at this point. I deliver him in top-shape and then it's up to the Swedish coach to make him perform...

PCM rulezz: In deed it was. That's three wins in row for us now Grin

A very special route this year ending with a decent climb, which will make it hard for some of the TT-riders.

I will be managing the Danish national team this year, and have high hopes for Fuglsang on this route as he is in brilliant shape.
Even the bookmakers name Jakob as one of the favourites along with Nibali and Wiggins.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-15-VM-TT2_zps3544fd2a.jpg
Surprisingly the Norwegian coach have selected our stagiaire Tobias Tonning for the Time Trial. What a big experience for the young Norwegian! Goes to show just how big a talent he is…
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-15-VM-TT4_zps14e01539.jpg
Sweden have selected both Tobias and Gustav for the race. Both are reasonably fit, but will probably lack a bit on this route due to their climbing skills.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-15-VM-TT5_zpsac6112e2.jpg
Beñat Intxausti sets a very fast time early on. Will Christina Watches – Onfone get a World Champion?
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-15-VM-TT6_zps6390191f.jpg
Not quite as Malori holds best time when Fuglsang is off.
Gustav does good placing 3rd on the intermediate times while Edvald Boasson Hagen is too tired after a long season to impress anyone.
Surprisingly Larsson handles the hill very well and gets provisional best in goal!
At the top Jakob is 3rd, six seconds slower than the Swede.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-15-VM-TT7_zpsaecbc0a8.jpg
With Nibali racing towards the top as the last rider we still have two riders on the podium.
Nibali is having a terrible day though and
GUSTAV LARSSON IS THE NEW WORLD ITT CHAMPION!

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-15-VM-TT8_zps997d5f6c.jpg

PCM Rulezz: Agreed Wink

Daggen: A Swedish World Champion and Kessiakoff on the team next year - what more can you ask for Grin

SSJ2Luigi: I will do my best, but two WC-medals to the team is definetely approved by me Smile

Gilbert has two titles in a row and has to be the big favourite once again. We will do our best to challenge him though with Fugsang in top shape. Usually Breschel does well in the worlds, but he looks tired as he has aready raced 100 days for Rabobank, so we shouldn’t expect too much of him.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR2_zpsa828354a.jpg
To put pressure on the Belgians we decide to support every breakaway attempt. The first to get a proper gap is Niki Østergaard, Schär and Novikov.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR3_zps385f6560.jpg
The breaks are all quickly reeled in, but Niki is having a great day and just keeps on attacking. With 160 km to go he is out with Boasson Hagen.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR4_zps3d36cfa5.jpg
With 100 km to go the two has 4’40’’ and most of the big nations have come to the front to chase.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR5_zpscd2fee0f.jpg
50 km left. The duo has 4’11’’ after the gap has been up to almost six minutes. Switzerland helping out Belgium in the chase while my team is looking comfortable behind.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR6_zpsa8218c9c.jpg
Surprisingly Vanendert open the attacking among the favourites with 24 km to go. Fuglsang pretty much has to follow the attack as we can’t rely in Belgium to reel him back in and we haven't got enough riders left to do it ourselves.
Nothing comes of it except that Østergaard and Boasson Hagen is caught.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR7_zps35f14414.jpg
With 17 km to the line Belgium is leading a 79 rider peloton.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR8_zps7df51387.jpg
Final time over the hill and Chris Anker Sørensen decides to mix things up a bit.
Gilbert closes the gap himself, but surely it will cost him in the finale?
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR9_zps33ac2057.jpg
Going under the 5 km marker its Gilbert and Fuglsang in front.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/09-17-VM-RR10_zpsfd7bbfb3.jpg
Jakob can’t quite hold on to Gilberts wheel on the final bit of the hill and then it’s three in a row for the Belgian. His first win in 2014!
Two medals for Jakob is still quite decent riding though!

So close to making it a double for the team Frown

Miguel98
2nd isn't bad. Gilbert is too strong. Sad

Atlantius
Jakstar: It would, but Gilbert was just too strong. I had plan that might have worked, but he attacked about 1 km before I had planned to and then tehre was nothing I could do really Sad

sutty: Three WC-medals for the team is still more than we we're counting on though Grin

Miguel: Very happy with the 2nd place. It seems the worlds are all that counts for Gilbert in this save. Two years in a row he becomes World Champion after having done absolutely nothing all year Angry
