Nordic Cycling | Final Farewell
Ian Butler
Vanendert coming up!

Jakstar22
The team supporting Chris fantastically. Keep it going

sutty68
Come on Chris, lets start reeling Anton back in Wink

Miguel98
Good result for Chris so far. As your PC crashed, that mean's this story is over?

Atlantius
Ian: In deed he is. He looks like he could be dangerous in the last half of the race...

Jakstar: Will do Wink

sutty: Grin Perhaps Antón is a bit of of his league...

Miguel: Thanks. I have salvaged everything needed to continue the story and have some reports in stock, so it won't stop but might slow down a bit once I run out of reports.

AUGUST Edition

Rider of the month: Fabian Cancellara, RadioShack – Nissan. For dominating Eneco Tour
Nordic rider of the month: Chris Anker Sørensen, Volvo – STARK. 6th in San Sebastián and impressive riding this far in the Vuelta.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/interview_zps83367276.jpg

Volvo – STARK Year 2015

Instead of the classic interview we have been so lucky to be able to reveal the final details of the biggest Nordic team next season.

First of all a number of future riders on the team remain secret – but not anymore!
We already know that Boassong Hagen, Kristoff, Laengen and Kessiakoff will be joining and Tobias Tonning has already raced his first races for the team. Apart from those riders three Danish riders have been signed:

A Classics Captain

Spoiler
The last couple of years Matti Breschel has been the last helper for first Boonen and this year Boom on Rabobank. Still he has managed to ride top 10 in the last seven cobbled classics on the World Tour with a 3rg in Gent – Wevelgem 2013 and a 4th in Paris- Roubaix this year as the highlights.
multimedia.ekstrabladet.dk/archive/00528/cykell_bet_milano_s_528527m.jpg
With Hushovd not getting any younger and McDermott still not quite good enough to win these races Breschel will be an important asset for the team and perhaps the rider Volvo – STARK need to win a few more one-day races?

One for the flats

Spoiler
Alex Rasmussen is more or less completely worthless when the road starts going uphill. He is very strong on the flat though – especially if alone, but also has a decent sprint on the weaker pelotons. This year he has shown great form by becoming Danish TT-champion and winning the last TT in the Giro d’Italia. Nd placing 6th on the Vuelta-prologue.
drupal-images.tv2.dk/sites/images.tv2.dk/files/t2img/2013/02/07/988x555/467085-alex_rasmussen.png
Alex will mainly ride as support for the teams sprinters, but of course with a special focus on the races with a lot of TT’ing. Depending on the 2015-route the World TT-championships might get special attention.

The Future Star

Spoiler
Since Rasmus Quaade became Danish TT-champion and won silver in the U23 TT-WC in 2011 he has put in several decent results and grown a lot while riding for Blue Water Cycling, but now it is time for him to step it up bit and find the WT-level.
www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/imageBank/w/worlds11u23tt-QUAADE.jpg
Rasmus will naturally focus on the races with lots of TT-kms. He still has quite a lot to learn in the roadraces, so we shouldn’t expect too much of him the first year. Most likely he will become a key tem-member in races with a Team Time Trial until he has built enough physique to target his own races.

Who is that big new Sponsor?

Quite a lot will change on the sponsor-side next year. Volvo stays on as name-sponsor and Falcon continues their engagement as minor sponsor, and will next year among other things be supplying water bottles for the team.
The clothes will next year be supplied by the relatively young Danish company Astral. A company known for producing quality clothes for all kinds of weather.
Specialized will be replaced by Merida, who wants to increase their market share in the whole of Scandinavia after having established themselves in Norway over the last few years.
And now for the main sponsor, bringing in the money that has allowed the team to sign all these high profile riders:

Vuelta a España

Stage 14: Gijon – Angliru
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-141_zps9398a040.jpg
Another very decisive stage with a massive mountain in the end. Tomorrow is a big day for Nicki, so he needs to take it as easy as possible today, while we will try to make sure Palomares doesn’t get in the break.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-142_zpsebd0232e.jpg
Things go just as planned from the start as 11 riders get away early on. None of them major threats for Nicki’s jersey.
With 100 km to go the break has 6 minutes on the peloton, and virtually no chance of lasting to the finish.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-143_zpsd9245378.jpg
Purito really wants to win the race and attacks early with 40 km to go. That should come back and bite him later on…
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-144_zpsb035e447.jpg
He is reeled back in 3 km from the top of the second-last hill, but immediately attacks again.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-145_zps8fe334ec.jpg
At the top of that hill Rodríguez has about a minute to a seven-rider group holding Chris, Antón and Vanendert.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-146_zps559816e9.jpg
With 9 km to the top Rodríguez has built a lead of two minutes. That doesn’t suit Chris so he decides to put on the pressure behind.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-147_zpsb95a783f.jpg
He gets a small gap, but Igor comes backand passes Chris with 6,5 km to the finish line.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-148_zpsbe177525.jpg
Purito holds on to take a splendid solo win.
Chris never manages to catch up with Antón again, but that was never a goal anyway. He does manage to gain quite a lot of time on Vanendert so all-in-all a failr successful stage!

Today the time limit was very hard on 24 riders. Noteworthy riders are Alex Rasmussen, Tossato, Quinzato and Leukemans.

Stage 15: Leon – Puerto de Parajes-Branillin

The first mountains have quite a few points on the top, so today is a day we have marked for Nicki.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-152_zpscc467665.jpg
The stage starts out in a frantic pace, but in the end Nicki manage to tear away along with 10 riders, who are happy to let him take the first 6 points.
At the foot of San Lorenzo the break has 7 minutes to the peloton. This is the climb that Nicki went out for as it has 30 points on the top!
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-153_zps65a2009b.jpg
De Segovia doesn’t want to leave the front of the group but Nicki tears away on the final bit of the climb and can put 30 pts on his account.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-154_zps0a89fc2d.jpg
With 5 km to the top of la Cobertoira the break has four minutes to the favourites group wre Euskaltel have started to up the tempo. Hopefully Nicki will be able to make it last long enough to take another 16 pts.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-155_zps0a4a72bd.jpg
And he does so by attacking 2 km from the top just to make sure.
After that climb I told Nicki to just fall back and take it easy for the rest of the stage after a job well done.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-156_zps5a6fb442.jpg
With 12 km to go his former breakaway companions Plaza, Charteau and De Segovia still hold on to a 1’15’’ gap. That's not a lot with a mountain ahead though!
Vanendert and Rodríguez attacks with 9 km to the top of the final climb.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-157_zps9b5d9a25.jpg
Antón immediately goes to the front of the group so I tell Chris to just stay next to him for the time being.
And with 6 km to the top they are reeled back in.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-158_zps0abf1f00.jpg
Txurruka and Roche starts the next wave of attacks with 4 km to go, but Antón, Purito and Chris are right there with them.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Nordic%20Cycling%20Project/2014%20Volvo%20Stark/08-18-Vuelta-159_zpsca23f53b.jpg
As usual Antón is just too strong for the rest and Purito is too fast for Chris in the sprint.

Also note that Willy fought his way in to 12th on the stage fopr the first time gaining ground on Landa!

Strange transfers there Pfft

Miguel98
Love how you say he gain's ground on Landa, but he's still 8 minute's behind. Sörensen still in the podium. Cool

Atlantius
And I have even (slightly) corrected the worst of them!
Spoiler
The game sent Van Garderen to Nippo and that was just unacceptable

Weird transfers Frown
I think it's sure now that Chris will end on the podium in Madrid Wink

Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

Atlantius
SSJ2Luigi: Especially Antón to Caofidis is very interesting

Miguel: With these signings my shortlist have pretty much turned empty. This is the last batch of high-profile riders ever to sign for the team!
And for Landa I guess I'm just hoping he is completely worn down by having to work a lot for Antón and then he will end up losing even more in the last week Wink

Jesleyh: Have I been playing the series too long when I'm startting to actually enjoy these tranmsfers?

krisa: Thanks and agree (assuming you meen mine) Smile

PCM rulezz: Don't say that. There's still two TT's and several mountain stages ahead...
