dienblad: Yeah, for a moment there I really thought me might make it.
PCM rulezz: They are, but to be fair they do have the perhaps strongest climbing-team of all and this is they're most important race of the season. The most surprising is the lack of qualified competition.
Jakstar: He is, I will do my best to keep him on the podium!
Ian & krisa: In deed. I hate when this happens - in game as wells in real life
sutty: Well it would have been bitter if it had been 1 km shorter

mowinckel91: I will certainly do my best, but it is a long race with lots of mountain stages yet to come so it will not be easy.

Vuelta a España
Stage 8: Alicante – Valencia
The sprinters will be hoping to get this one, but will they get past the mountain in the middle?
The stage really looks like a Bak-speciality, so we get him in the break, but when Egoi Martinez crosses the top of the hill as the first the break only has 4’40’’ to the peloton. It’s very doubtful that a lead that size will be sufficient.
Vodafone and Rabobank are leading the chase in the peloton. They’re not in a hurry though so with 80 km to go the gap has grown to 6 minutes.
With 13 km to the line everything is set up for the sprinters. Our only job now is to not get caught behind a crash on the wet roads.
Right on the 3 km mark Sagan starts his leadout for Cavendish.
A powerful leadout and with 1 km to go no one seems to be able to follow him.
But then Kittel rockets off and takes it in the last few meters. First WT-win of the season for the German.

Stage 9: Tarragona – Barcelona
This should be a breakaway-stage. With two 10-point climbs early on we will try to get Nicki out there.
There was no room for Nicki to get in a break early on, so instead we kept things closed over the first two hills allowing Nicki to step forward and take 20 points.
Hopefully that thought everyone a thing or two about forcing us to do it the hard way. 119 riders left in the peloton over the second climb.
There’s much better luck for breakaway riders after the intermediate sprint (which in no controversy was won by Chris giving him six potentially important seconds).
With 30 km to go Veikkanen, Riis, Cummings, Moser, Martinez and Siutsou has 6’30’’ to the peloton.
The sprint is this group is completely unpredictable, so with 20 km to go everyone starts attacking. Jussi and Thomas do their best to follow the attacks, but still Siutsou manage to create a small gap with 15 km to go.
Thanks to a massive effort by Riis he is reeled back in with 5 km to go.
Moser opens the sprint early.
Cummings goes in front with 1,5 km to go. Jussi and Thomas right in his wheel.
Both my guys gave it everything they had, but Cummings was just too strong today.

Again a missed win for Veikkanen, too bad. And Anton 5th in a mass sprint..... CYA logic.

Miguel98: Well at the Tour de France it was Sagan-EBH-Cavendish...
mowinckel: Thanks
dienblad: Yeah, he seems to always just lack that little bit of energy in the finish
I think Antón taking part of the sprint is due to him leading the points classification.
Ian: He does and at least the break gave us quite a boost in the team classification, which suddenly seems like something we might aim at as well...

That was close for Veikkanen

First rest day in the Vuelta, so lets have a look at what has happened elsewhere while we have been racing in Spain.
GP Ouest France – Plouay
Probably the race in the calendar that we care the least about. We sent our hilly classics talent Brian Matzen as the only rider in shape, so he was the closest thing to a captain on the roster.
Brian had a brilliant day, being right next to the favourites when things were decided.
Well that is when the battle for 2nd were decided because the German veteran Jens Voigt managed to make a breakaway last and took the win right in front of Valverde and Slagter.
Brians 11th place here sure does give great promise for the future.
After the race it was announced that the race will be one of the races degraded to 1.HC race next season.
Spoiler Forgot to export, so you won't get detailed results

Miguel: He sure shows how to wear a NC-jersey...
PCM rulezz: In deed. The jersey (as the others) are the work of jakstar22
Ian: I was cheering for Voigt to last as well. 43 years is no age for a rider of his class
