It's now time for stage four, and we once more have the same sort of stage as the previous ones; it's once more a completely flat road. This means sprinters like Boonen, Bewley and Guarnieri are the main favourites. However, there are strong crosswinds predicted which could definitely cause some problems for these riders.

As per the usual, a breakaway again will try it's luck today. Those who make it into the group of escapees today are Sibilla (his fourth day in a row on the attack!), Broers, Reichenbach and Kuznetsov.



They are let go by the peloton which is contolled by the main sprinting teams. A relaxed pace is set for the moment, with the break being allowed some leeway.



The quartet up the road have all seen their GC chances evaporate over resent days so the sprints aren't contested. Broers and Sibilla roll through to win sprints one and two respectively.



Getting towards the business end of the stage, Becherovka decide to hit the front and close the gap to the break. The heavy crosswinds though put plenty of riders in difficulty, with plenty getting distanced in the newly echelons!



Plenty of big names are among those missing, with most of the top sprinters here all falling out of contention for today and in the GC! Among these are massive favourites Mohs, Swift and Guarnieri!

Bennati, Kennaugh, Haussler, Van Heerden, Impey, Roelandts, Stauff and surprisingly Howard (despite being a Becherovka rider) are all also missing! White jersey wearer and fourth overall Senechal is also off the back, with his GC ambitions over.

These are scattered in various group, the nearest of which to the main group is struggling and has a 2 minute gap to close. It looks like all these riders' GC chances are over!



This tough pacemaking leaves just 38 riders left in the main group! Most of the best time-trialists are there, as well as GC 1-2 Boonen and Bewley.



Becherovka continue to set a high tempo on the front to keep the selection, as the final kilometres move closer.



With 20 kilometres left, the break is in sight for the peloton and just a minute's gap remains for the attackers.



However, the peloton struggle to close that gap in the next few minutes, and the break move ever closer to an unlikely victory! With just 7 kilometres left, the gap is still at a relatively big 45 seconds, with Broers leading the way.



Soon enough the quartet realise that they have a chance with the chase faltering due to Becherovka running out of domestiques. Reichenbach tries to get rid of the others with an attack!



As this happens, a small sprint train is set up for Bewley by Becherovka, or should I say Vesely. The young Czech sprinter will have to shut down the gap to the escapees otherwise his leader will have a tough task on his hands.

Boonen, Cancellara, Stallaert and Schädlich are the riders in Bewley's slipstream.



The first four riders in the train then manage to get rid of the rest, which means if Boonen, Bewley and Cancellara can catch the attackers before the fast-approaching finish then a victory is on offer. That isn't looking very likely though!



Back at the front, Reichenbach is entering the final kilometre. The other three will have to work very hard to pull him back, with Kuznetsov deciding to launch an early sprint to try and cross the gap!



Inside the final 1000 metres the Russian looks strong and is closing down the Swisscom rider!



Reichenbach has no power left as Kuznetsov moves up alongside him...



..and overtakes him!



Kuznetsov claims the most unlikely of stage victories! The breakaway took advantage of the windy chaos to stay away, and it was the Prio rider who was strongest in the closing stages.

A brave Reichenbach has to settle for a still great second.



In the peloton sprint, Bewley looks the strongest inside the last kilometre but he will only claim a top five at best today. Boonen is the closest to the Kiwi with Vesely, Cancellara, Fiedler, Stallaert and Soupe all looking for a top ten further back.



Broers claims the final podium spot, outsprinting a tired Sibilla who is last of the attackers in fourth. More than any of these riders would have expected before today.



Bewley it is who rounds off the top five ahead of Boonen, who's loss to the Kiwi has no repercussions GC-wise.



Cancellara, Fiedler, Vesely and then Soupe round off a rather strange looking top ten, with many of the main sprinters out of contention due to them being caught in the echelons.

The main group dropped in the crosswinds ends over 4 minutes down, lead home by Mohs in front of Swift. All GC hopes are over for them.



This reduced main group sees the GC take a major shake-up. Brutt moves into third and is the only rider along with the two B's who has taken bonus seconds. Only 32 riders are still in contention, with the rest being over 3 minutes behind. This means we have a change in white jersey, with Vesely taking it.
