The break goes clear early on in this final stage, with Da Dalto and Galimzyanov just ahead of the other attackers. The Russian takes the first sprint of the day


Those 2 riders remain ahead of the rest of the break, who are Kavsek, Renang, Champion, Coletta, Timofeev, Mouris, Viviani, Broco, Scheunemann, Echarri and Nooytens


After about 50km of Da Dalto and Galimzyanov around 30 seconds ahead of the other 11, a few riders, one by one, are starting to come across to them as the next sprint looms. First Broco, then Kavsek, then Champion, and then Nooytens, as Broco actually started to pull out into a lone lead


Broco therefore takes the sprint, ahead of Galmizyanov and Nooytens


And as the peloton come through this sprint, theres been a split!


Theres 33 riders in here, and leading the charge are 3 teams who have had a dissapointing race so far. La Gazzetta were involved in the Stage 4 splits, but did not really benefit, with Bennati having had a woeful time in the sprints, Carmeuse have on both the previous stages been one of the teams who missed out, and were forced to try to chase, aswell as Pearl Adidas, who missed the split on both occasions, and were particularly lucky for their lead riders to avoid time losses on Stage 4. Auber also have a strong presence here, as well as the odd rider from other teams and once again, somehow, a couple of control riders.


There are 6 riders who just missed the split. They were very close to it initially, but have been losing ground now. 3 Jack Wolfskin riders: Cornu, Donald and Van Stayen; and 3 Festina riders: Schadlich, Goddaert and Bewley.


Cafe de Colombia are attempting to lead an unorganised chase


With La Gazzetta, Carmeus and Pearl Adidas continuing to push, leaving their main efforts to the final stage could really pay off


Inside 10km and the front group, who have by now caught all of the breakaway, splits. 25 in front, 17 behind


The 25 up front are: Bouet, Drujon, Ford, Ligthart, Morizot, Rolland (Auber), Aulas, Caethoven, Clerc, Gardeyn, Lhotellerie, Roelandts, Suaza (Carmeuse), Baugnies (Lipton), Franzoi, Offredo, Vanderbiest, Vastaranta and Walker (Pearl Adidas).

The 17 now falling back are Veelers, Vinter (B&O), Echarri, Viviani (Energie-Diesel), De Kort, Posthuma (Jack Wolfskin), Champion, Laidler, Nooytens (Lafarge), Broco, Schar (Nespresso), Scheunemann (Philips), Renang (Sony Ericsson), Kavsek (Starbucks), Timofeev (Wikipedia) and the 2 control riders.

25 becomes 24, with Clerc dropped with 6km to go


Coming up to the sprint, Pearl are looking strong with Vastaranta and Vanderbiest, and theres a gap to Roelandts, Bennati, Baugnies and Ford


But as the sprint begins, Roelandts has bridged the gap


Offredo, Franzoi, Lhotellerie and Rodriguez Segarra are up there with them - as a gap forms to the other 14


Vanderbiest makes his move with 1.4km to go, and you have to favour Roelandts or Bennati here


Baugnies and Ford will be content for Top 5 placings, as Roelandts and Bennati now attempt to pass Vanderbiest


Theyre going flat out, but neither can make much of an impact


And the Frenchman Roman Vanderbiest wins the final stage of the Tour of Qatar!


Roelandts is 2nd, Bennati 3rd then Baugnies and William Ford, who has secured a surprise overall victory in the Tour of Qatar. Vastarantae, Offredo and Rodriguez Segarra round out the Top 8...


... and then a gap has been awarded. Franzoi in 9th and those behind are given a 38 second loss to the front 8


But have the rest of the Top 24 gained anything? Yes they have! Clerc may have been dropped, but he is still the next man in, and thats a big gap - 1'42 down.


Theres even a gap behind Clerc to the larger peloton. Where the sprinters are in here, im not sure, with the front 2 leading them in being the 2 Jack Wolfskin riders who had made the split but been dropped, Posthuma and De Kort


So how has this all affected the GC? Ford still wins, but jumping up to 2nd and 3rd overall are Vanderbiest and Bennati. Offredo, Rodriguez Segarra and Roelandts also jump into the Top 6, with Baugnies now 8th. Drujon and Morizot take 7th and 9th, having been in the Top 10 GC all race, with Vandewalle, Dowsett, Flens, Caethoven and Aulas all benefiting from the splits to move into positions 10 to 14. And then comes the other riders who started the day high up, such as Castaneda, Vanoverschelde, and Reus.
