Tour Down Under - Stage 3
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_165.jpg

The 3rd stage is another chance for the sprinters again. But also a breakaway is possible now with such huge time gaps for the helpers and even some team leaders. But most likely it`s ending in a sprint where Allan Davis and Heinrich Haussler will be top favourites again. But so far Gavazzi is performing at his best, he already won one sprint finish and did well on yesterdays hard stage. So it wouldn`t surprise if he is up there again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_166.jpg

4 riders form todays break and a well known duo in there again.
Merino Criado (CSC) and
Ortega (Jap-Kor) are again part of todays breakaway. None of them was able to collect KoM points, so they can maximum equalize to the leading riders Vichot and Zingle.
Kwok (Meiji) and
Kadri (Vueling) complete the breakaway.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_169.jpg

As none of them is a danger for the GC they can create a nice gap pretty early. airBaltic for Docker and UPC for Gavazzi do the main work. From time to time also Cisco for 2nd overall Efimkin is supporting them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_173.jpg

Ortega takes teh 10 points ahead of Kadri, Merino Criado and Kwok and is shared leader in the KoM ranking now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_174.jpg

But 2 more points are still open. So it was a bit surprising that neither Vichot nor Zingle did try anything here. Instead it`s Hayakawa taking the last 2 points being up to 4 in general now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_176.jpg

77km and 5'30 for the breakaway. Highly time for Hollister and Sram to higher the pace to give their top favourites a fair chance today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_178.jpg

No ambitions for the group at the first sprint. Kwok, Kadri and Merino Criado come over the line in this order.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_180.jpg

Similar picture at the 2nd sprint. No one cares about the bonus seconds and so they continue to work well together. Kwok again wins, this time ahead of Merino Criado and Kadri.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_182.jpg

Even though Allan Davis might be the biggest favourite his team stopped their work. So it`s totally up to Sram to catch the group and it`s mainly Eric Young doing a good job at this point. 18km left and still 1'22 advantage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_185.jpg

A bit more than 10km left and the group is alreay in sight. Sram, Hollister and today also Pivovarna are starting to form their trains.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_188.jpg

7km too much for the breakaway. They are caught and now the sprint preperations can go into the last phase.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_190.jpg

Sram surely having the strongest train and already a small gap with Wegmann pulling hard now. Keisse as last lead-out ahead of Haussler today. Selander and Brea try the same on the left side.
Hutarovych found the perfect wheel right behind Haussler, while all other sprinters aiming Davis` wheel starting with Van Loocke and Sutton.
Also Teruel, Borrajo and Gavazzi are somewhere right behind Davis.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_197.jpg

Wegmann has done his job by opening a gap to the Hollister train. Now Keisse starts the sprint with 1,9km to go. Brea does the same a few meters behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_199.jpg

The first two look to be found. Haussler with Hutarovych on his wheel have created a nice gap now with Haussler being in the wind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_201.jpg

Davis is coming very fast on the left now. Possibly too late but Haussler and Hutarovych already did a long sprint.
Sutton and Van der Lijke lose speed slowly and sprinters like Feillu or Kreder are coming even faster from behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_203.jpg

Everyone who expected Hutarovych to accelerate and pass Haussler was wrong. The German presents his whole strength and is opening a gap from the first position. What a strong performance.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/TdU2013/mg_TdU_2013_3_205.jpg

Very dominant he wins the 3rd stage and his first in this race. Davis with a nice final punch still overtakes Hutarovych, who can still be pretty happy with todays podium as he made the best decision by leaving Borrajo`s wheel to join over to the Sram train.
Kreder, Feillu and Gavazzi come over the line next and all prove that not being in the first rows at the sprint preparation wasn`t the wrong decision today. Bole, Arashiro, Bennett and Borrajo complete the top10 while we have one disappointing rider today: Mitch Docker wasn`t even participating in todays sprint. Was he still exhausted from yesterday? Normally he belongs to the stronger puncheurs within the sprinters. Also Van Loocke, Peeters, Sutton and the Oz sprinters couldn`t fulfill their expectations today.
