Transfer Season 09/10

we're still not actually sure what Wiggins thinks in all this. I do think British media are keen for Wiggins to make the move.

Also, Garmin are unlikely to let go, he's been the talk of the UK cycling scene since the tour (perhaps more so than Cavendish), and if i'm not mistaken Garmin Europe is based here in the UK (Southampton to be more precise)

Whereas Sky don't really care about publicity in the UK and are much more focused on getting fans in North West europe.

Seriously though, do Sky really need publicity here? I mean it is a household name that advertised.. everywhere anyway.

Disagree - even though theyve not signed as many brits as they claimed they would, Britain is still Sky's main market. (Followed by Italy)

And besides, the likes of Brailsford are still committed to the ultimate goal of a British TDF winner.

Why do you think Sky is the one british company who sponsors cycling?
It's because their big expansion strategy is in Europe, Illegal fees are a massive market for sky and is why they are so interested in races like the northern classics which no one in britain watchs

Im not saying they arent looking to expan across Europe, as it wouldnt surprise me if they were - but they hardly dont care about the British market

Obviously it's their biggest market, and important to them, I'm just saying that they are going into cycling more to boost their foreign market than their British one.

Or they are going into cycling to buy out Eurosports hold on cycling, as they've realised the popularity of cycling is increasing rapidly within the UK as we produce riders capable of greater achievements. It may result in some good coverage and commentators, or may just screw cycling coverage up even more.

actually I just realized it was mentioned in the News in November thread, so I guess its only a semi-double post

CrueTrue
Yeah, it's my mistake. I guess the final rosters belong in-here, not in the News threads Wink

Oscar Pereiro has announced that he'll ride for Astana in 2010. He's signed for one season.

CrueTrue
He does have one condition, though: the Pro Tour license. If the team doesn't get it, he will join QuickStep instead, he says.

Also, and this is interesting, he says: "These are the two options for Alberto and me". This is according to the Danish translation. If any one the Spanish speaking reads the original source, please confirm whether that's correct.

It could be interpreted that Contador will join QuickStep with Pereiro if Astana doesn't get the Pro Tour license.

Yes, but according to Nieuwsblad, Astana will get the PT license.
