It might be easier to create gpx files and then import them into the editor. Then the lenght will be correct.
I have no idea how a imported map works. It`s never where it is supposed to be.

Yeah, this is for South African races where there are no .dem files

This makes it a step harder
I once tried stagemaking in New Zealand without much success. If I import a hight map the area looked like after a bomb explosion. A road would have had 25% slopes up and down every 50m. So this wasn`t working very well.
Then I tried the old PCM Editor way. Just adding all mountains and hills manually and "hope" that it looks quite well.
To be honest, the profile was quite fine actually but it was no comparison with .dem files areas.
Either you ignore this fact and make realistic results or you must work a very long time on it to perfectionize. Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to create .dem files for this areas because of the long distance to the equator.

I've managed to get the gradients roughly ok, it's just the profile length that I am struggling with.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to do it the old fasioned way

Quick question: How do you set up a climb so a description is given in game?

Profile Features - Spline Description. Move the red and blue arrows in profile view to decide where the description start and end.

Success with the map, now is it possible to tell how tall a hill is in the stage editor without buildong a road to the top?

Click on the hill and then on the right there are x,y,z. The z-value describes the height of the point you clicked at.
If you click a waypoint there are 2 of these coordinates. The upper one is always the point you click, the bottom one the exactly coordinate of the waypoint.

Does anyone know if Cyanide will be releasing any more .dem files that are compatible with the editor for areas we currently can't make stages. Places like Japan, most of South America, South Afrrica, parts of Norway?

I don`t think so. Also they said that areas like Norway and South Africa are to far away from the equator. So it`s not possible to create good .dem files.

That really sucks. I was hoping to make the Tour of Hokkaido, Tour of Okinawa, and a few others from Japan. Thanks for the answer atleast.

Yes it`s quite annoying ;(
I also want to create several races in New Zealand. But I don`t want to do it the old school way.

South Africa definately isn't, it's much closer to the equator that Europe, New Zeeland is also closer to the equator than Europe.

It`s like the old stage editor for the older PCM.
You create a normal area, everything flat. Then you build all hills, mountains on your own.
Also you have to take care that the route has the correct lenght. If you just build a new free map, the area was 20m² big with the standard settings I think. So you have to take care.
This way you need much much longer for one stage.
And afterwards it looks not that nice than with gpx files.

Two minor corrections:
1) Cyanide has only confirmed that Norway is impossible to recreate.
2) They will create more .dem files if there's a demand. Japan will come sooner or later.

I asked them for several countries. Answer was that Norway, New Zealand, South Africa and all countries that far away from the equator are not really possible.
Japan is definitely possible, same for China, Oman, Argentina...
I also asked for these countries, without an answer given.
