its probably a good thing that Lotto dont control the race lead anymore.

Anyway, that was another good stage. I can't wait too see cadel's media chat a bit later on!!!

Gesink was on the inside, he didn't change his line or anything. Evans only has himself to blame. He was trying to go in a gap that WAS NOT THERE.

Evans own fault...period.

Actually, 3 people said the same thing I did, but sure single me out.

First time, coming out of the curve, Gesink comes from the left to the right and cuts Evans into the barriers. How is that Evans fault?

On the 2nd time, sure, the barriers were poorly placed. But Gesink still closed Evans against the barriers

I'm dissapointed in sanchez Sad

I'm still not counting him out as he always gets better as the race progresses. Two years ago he was just on a different level than anyone else. He'll get better if he shake the crash off.

Anyway great stage today and awesome finale, I just love those kind of climbs and it was the classic Vuelta scenario all over with Valverde putting the pressure on with a couple of GC contenders following. Basso looked strong and we haven't seen the last of him. He's gonna podium, but I still have my money on Valverde.

Nice try by Taaramae aswell, you could just feel his pain through the TV, what an awful ascent that must have been for him, but really nice measured effort from Veloso and a great stage win. You really gotta admire Xacobea, they always come away with something at this race, despite having some much pressure on them to perform in this particular race.

Exactly, but he would lost anyway.

Gesink was already on the inside and takes the shortest route on the corner, Evans tries to pass 2 times where there is no space...

That is what happened.
It would not have made any difference anyway.

Because the next curve was a right one and you're taking the shortest route? Evans should know that.

so its ok to cut people off just as long as they probably wont win the sprint. ok then.......

i don't disagree with that but he pressed evans against the barriers. That i find unfair.

btw you can clearly see evans braking due to the action of gesink

No, that's what happened the 2nd time around. The first time it was just Gesink cutting Evans trajectory.

@Mrlol:
Does that make it okay to cut someone's trajectory by changing yours?

Really nice sprint by Piti at the end. Grin

My point being: He probably didnt even notice Evans untill he was boxed already anyway. Just riding his own sprint, not looking back. He was in the lead all the time from like 500m until Valverde passed him.

final km

Gesink stayed on his line. Evans put himself in difficulty by chosing the wrong side.

Also, bystanders said that after the race, Evans tried to headbutt Gesink.
Sorry but imho Evans is a psycho

Watching the replay, I have to admit I was wrong. It wasn't as serious as it seemed on the live coverage.

Still a good ride by Cunego... Gesink impressed me... i hope he goes welll..
Its another one of those things.... Gesink didn't move his line... the barriers bent in then out... i see this like the cav tour de france one... where at the time i thought Cav did nothing wrong Wink
But its swings and roundabouts Grin

Gesink didn't change is line enough to block but Evans had to slow twice, still not Gesink fault.

I think Valverde shouldn't get the bonus and jersey, his team will have to work all week instead of Lotto (Evans should be happy), how many times Bruyneel let others get the jersey wisely?

Evans is stronger than i expected, i'm starting to think he can follow Valv in mountains and make the difference in the TT that is short but he's better and recovers better, this if Valv doesn't have the bad day.

Gesink continues to improve and looks to be in the best climbers level.
Danielson is back after 3 lost years (2006 Vuelta).

Still no rushed conclusions till the monstrous 3 mountain days.

Only 113 riders left in the race?

If your looking on Cycling news i don't think its fully updated yet Wink

Seeing Cunego at the beginning at the climb, and then at the finish, he probably would've been able to stay with Valverde and Evans if the possibility of a win was there. Great stage, anyway.

Stijn_vranken
cunego at the beginning of the climb rode just after valv , evans & basso
