Vuelta a España 2009

According to Gesink there was a lot of headwind on the climb yesterday, which is why he waited so long with an attack. And he said Cunego's acceleration was too much, he could never have followed that.

Perfect stage for Valverde or Cunego.

Gerdemann 25 minutes behind Grin

If offense is the best defence, does it mean that defence is the worst defence?

Well there's no suprise. I don't know who ever hyped him or why some people believed in his climbing capabilities after just a breakaway in the Tour...

He never was such sort of a talent, good time trial though, and good at medium mountains sometimes, but nothing brilliant. You could already see that coming from far.

I have to disagree, he actually managed to win mountain stages or end in top 5 without being in a long breakaway.
He was just inconsistent. You can compare him to Vinokourov, excellent time trial and middle mountains/hills, but not consistent in high mountains, he had very good days and very bad days there. And unfortunately he shared another thing with Vino (dope)
Oh and Dekker rode Gerdemann at 7 minutes in the Thüringer Rundfahrt at the espoirs :lol:

But probs to you for turning this into a Dekker discussion, quality.

No he is actually a perve arnt you m8 Pfft and if you read my post before it clearly states that i reckoned gerdeman did something and i dont deny it Pfft. I suppose you need your glory after claiming he was going to dominate lots of races over the past 4-5 years haha. Grin

This stage should have breakaway written all over it. I'm probably wrong though. Maybe gerdeman haha

I think most people would of laughed it off if they were there Pfft and say anton was a better bet. Anywho you know i get bored of people who win all the time. e.g. rossi lorenzo armstrong etc the list could go on. And you know i like sam san g and have done for ages.

Big phil deignan got 28th Grin come on the brits and irish Pfft

Wyman
Well its probably wrong but...
From what info i could gather i rekon that...

Cunego = 423watts
Gesink = 409watts
Evans-Valv-Sammy=406watts
Valjevic-Basso-Mosquera-Rodriguez-Danielson-Tiralongo=403watts

Thats for the last 6kms though Wink

I had a laugh yesterday when the one Eurosport commentator was in shock about Gerdemann's position, and Sean Kelly (who clearly knows more about cycling talents than the other bloke) said (in his broad Irish accent) "It's normal". Upon prompting.. "It's where I expect him to be. When he shows himself in a week long tour like the Dauphine, or Paris-Nice, he can start to claim he's a general classement contender, but he's not all that" (Or words to that effect). It was the first true thing the Irish had spoken all day.

Seems wrong that Basso group all put out 403 watts to me... Perhaps in average, but doesn't the watts have a conclussion towards how fast you are pedalling/gearing and weight?

I doubt it can be so conclussive that just because they are going at the same pace they are all producing the same amount. Also the fact that some are pulling whilst others are merely hanging on should also have an effect.
