"Travis, is that you?"

I turn over and couldn't believe who was standing outside of my hospital room.
It was my parents! They had came all the way from Kansas to see me.

"Mom, Dad, how did you find me?"

"Some guy named Kyle got a hold of us and told us what happened."

"You didn't have to come all the way out here just for me,
especially considering what I put you through."

"We know. But we are still your parents."

I knew then that they were no longer upset at me for leaving.
If they dropped everything they were doing just to see if I was okay
than they still cared about me and realized this was the life I wanted to live.

"Thank you, it really means a lot to me that you came out here."

"Well, we can't have another Papa Newton on our hands since he gave up his dream when he broke his leg. Kyle told us how close you were from making it to the professional circuit. So we feel it's only fair to be your support group
during your rehab so you stay motivated to make a comeback."

I was in the hospital for two weeks before I was finally cleared to be released.
From that point on I was in a powered wheelchair because I couldn't use
crutches for my right leg because of my broken arms and wrists.
To keep it brief, I looked like a walking mummy all wrapped up.

The first few months were hard but since my injury happened on the job,
Bissell was forced to continue paying my wages for the entire season.
And any hospital bills I didn't have the money to pay for my parents chipped in.

After 5 months I was finally able to start my rehabilitation.
Three months after that I was walking on my own two feet again.
I was making slow but steady progress to make my return.

And then Bissell even offered me a second try-out whenever
I thought I was ready to make my return back to cycling!
They really liked me and didn't want a freak event to ruin my career.

That lifted a lot of pressure off me as I didn't need to make the fastest recovery,
I could take it slow and make sure I was 100% before I took to the road again.
