Same here, wow what a brief stop after 37 pages worth. Not evening a warning. I spend a lot of time reading this.

Not really. I'm not sure if it was in this thread, but Matt made it very clear he was going to be leaving the site indefinitely.

A Dream
I awoke from what was one of my most vivid dreams. I saw myself on the final climb racing my way to the top, only to be passed by Klöden just before the finish line. I knew it was the nerves causing my bad dreams and I needed to calm down if I wanted any chance to win the Tour de Romandie.

Stage 1

It feels like forever since I last raced, but I have not stopped training. My moral and fitness are both high making me a favorite for this race. Today’s first time trial is only 4km long so today will have little effect on the overall race. There are not any extremely strong time trailers in today’s stage, other than Tony Martin, who, from what I heard, is unprepared for the stage.
One of the first riders to go was Brian Vandborg for Liquigas. He set a great time that would last for most of the race.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Vandborg.jpg

The next rider to impress was the up and coming American superstar, Tejay Van Garderen who ended up in 6th place, 5 seconds from the leader.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/VanGarderen.jpg

As I said earlier, Tony Martin would have been the favorite had he had a higher fitness, as there were no elite time trialers in the race. He finished in 31st place, 24 seconds back from the leader.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/TonyMartin.jpg

As I jumped off the starting line, I knew that I had a chance to win. I was the 2nd to last person to go and the person behind me had no chance of winning. As soon as I crossed the line I would know if I won or not.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Ibegin.jpg

My fitness was peaking, and my legs were feeling great. As I approached the finish line I knew I had a chance of winning. I fought to the finish and looked up at the clock.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Ifinish.jpg

The clock read “5'45”. I had beaten Vandborg by 1 second and put myself in the yellow jersey.

Tour de Romandie
www.suisse-blog.ch/wp-content/uploads/tour-de-romandie.jpg

Stage 2

Today’s stage is the only hilly stage in the entire race. Although I’m not great on the hills, I still have a good chance at getting in the top ten thanks to the lack of competition. I’ll be looking to limit my losses and save energy for the mountains in stage 4 and 5. The riders today will be made of 8 circuits of 22 km each. There will be a lot of King of the Mountain points up for grab today, which is why we tried to get Lewis in the early morning break.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/Lewisattacks.jpg

He was successful in most of the mountain sprints and was able to get himself a lead in the King of The Mountain classification that will last until at least Stage 4. He joined 4 other riders, all of which were no threat to the GC, so they were allowed to get a considerable gap.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/TheBreak.jpg

Their lead peaked at around 9 minutes, which is when Fuji – Servetto decided to real them in. Fuji was working for one of the race favorites, Fredrik Kessiakoff.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/Fujileadsthebreak.jpg

With around 30 kilometers left the first favorite to make an attack was Carlo Scognamiglio. I, with most of the other favorites, decided to sit back and wait for a while before we attacked.
i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/Scogmaglio.jpg

With about 20 kilometers left, I saw Popovych making a break for it, so I also attacked.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/Iattack.jpg

Despite an unorganized peloton, Scognamiglio was only able to build up a minute lead. Eventually most of the favorites formed in the lead.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/Leadgroup.jpg

As we approached the finish line, Ten Dam made the first move and sprinted for the line. I tried to follow but I lost his wheel and fell back. Rovny, however, was able to catch up with Ten Dam. With 1 kilometer left he pulled away from everyone else and took the win, and the leader’s jersey.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/Tour%20de%20Romandie/Rovnywins.jpg

I was able to hold on to 6th place and managed to avoid losing any time. Today’s stage was a complete success as I am only 8 seconds behind Rovny, which can be easily taken back on the mountains. Next up is a flat stage before we head to the mountains.
Also, shout out to Chris Froome who was a big help today. He was able to protect me for 150 km. Thanks bud.

Hey your back! Great to see a team-mate (see sig) doing well.

Edit: I just read thru the whole story. Its great. The devolopment goes very fast but I still find it interesting. I was reading that Amrtin is your 2nd favourite rider so the question I must ask is who's your favourite?

matt493
Yeah his development was so fast (along with all the young riders) partly because I figured it would suck if it would take until 2013 to become any good.
I believe my favorite rider is Hincapie.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/clickablelink.png

valverde321
Since your favourite rider is George. HAve you ever seen a Ride with George. If you haven't I strongly recomend it. Truthfuly I didn't like Hincapie that much but then I saw this bio and hes one of my favourite riders now. Plus its just a really good biography.

stage 3-5 should be posted soon.
