Stage 21
It's the final stage of the Vuelta and I can't be happier that its finally over. My body is aching and I'm just mentally drained. Today was a 28 kilometer flat time trial that should be won by anyone who isn't to worn out. In 5th place a minute and 9 seconds back was José Iván Gutiérrez.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2010/Vuelta/Stage%2021/Guitierrez.jpg

I came in 4th going only 5 seconds faster than Gutierrez.

3rd place belongs to Sebastian Lang who held the best time for most of the stage but was beaten by 54 seconds.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2010/Vuelta/Stage%2021/lang.jpg

In 2nd place was Steensen who barely beat Lang. They both finished with the same time.

It wasn't a big surprise who won. Gerdemann had the best legs and dominated the stage, securing his 2nd place finish for Milram.

Nice result Smile

Gerdemann 2nd and two Belgians in the top 10, I'm happy. Exactly the same Vuelta is coming up for me this season (don't know if it's random or not) so this kinda got me hoping that there won't be many big favorites going, then I can win with Gerdemann ^^

matt493
you probably can. Wink

Since the season is pretty much over I would like some feedback on what should be different for next season. Any comments will be appreciated.

Call From Frank Campbell
"Your in!" That's all I heard him say. I was in such disbelief. I was still in shock after winning the Vuelta that I had completely forgotten about the World Championships. "I want you in the Time Trial and in the Road Race." This is a huge step in my career. The Vuelta victory was a fluke, sort of an accident. it wasn't a competition at a high level. I still couldn't believe what I heard. I called my parents right afterward and then called my cousin, who was also invited to the Road Race, to tell them the good news. Granted, a top 50 would be a surprise but to be representing Ireland in the biggest race of the year is extraordinary. I only had 3 days after the Vuelta ended to pack and head to Varese. I would be with a lot of teammates who were also invited to the race by their respective country. Winning the Vuelta is won thing, but racing in the World Championships is another.

well I'm not an expert in the one rider stories but maybe you could talk about your team's important results in some of the races that you aren't reporting (since Martin isn't there). Maybe a review at the end of each month or something like that.

Tricky to get right - at the end of the day its a Dan Martin story not a Garmin-Slipstream story.

Im not sure what difficulty your playing on Matt but if its not extreme, making it extreme would certainly make it an extra challenge to continue getting such good results

well yeah but writing a little things from the other important races won't make it a Garmin story.
Since it's a Daniel Martin story probably they should be written from his point of view.

I appreciate the advice from 2 of the best story writers. I will try extreme and see how that goes. I will also try to find that fine line between making it a Garmin story and still reporting Garmin other races. I appreciate te advice.
