Stage 2
Stage 2 has a couple steep climbs that should take out most of the sprinters. No surprise was that there was a breakaway but it was a surprise that it was Karsten Kroon trying to go by himself.
He built up a gap of 10 minutes by himself and it looked like he could win the stage. The team would rather have the pressure on another team so we sat back in the peloton and let other teams do the work. I was relaxed in my white jersey.
It was no surprise that both Farrar and Sutton were dropped on the climbs but it was a surprise that Wiggins and Millar were dropped. A completely weird stage. The final 20 kilometers were downhill but for some reason the spectators were inches from falling off a huge ledge. A weird place to have a stage. In the sprint finish Leezer beat out Vaitkus and Cancelarra while Dekker finished 6th and Vandevelde 10th.
Cunego lost almost 5 minutes and Kloden abandoned despite no crashes.
