Stage 1
Today's opening stage is a long time trial. The 1st half of the stage is going up while the 2nd half of the stage is going down. This benefits time trialers who can also climb. Wiggins was a little disappointing coming in 12th place finishing 2 and a half minutes back of the winner.
I surprised everyone, including myself by finishing in 10th place. I sure hope the National team manager was watching this.
Millar looked very strong and when he came through he was in 1st place but he only finished in 9th place 2 minutes and 15 seconds behind.
In 5th place was David Zabriskie who was showing off his USA TT champion jersey.
The terrain and length was perfect for Leipheimer but he could only manage 4th.
In 3rd was Karpets who shows he can be a contender this year but did finish 1 minute and 50 seconds back.
Vanvedevelde came in 2nd and the winner was Dekker who is an elite time trialer and puncheur so the stage was perfect for him.
Cancellara disappointed everyone and finished 17th 2 minutes and 45 seconds back proving this isn't an ordinary opening stage.
Stage 2 is supposed to be flat but I would be surprised if many sprinters can stay with the leading group.
