Stage 1

Today’s Time Trial is completely flat and Wiggins and Millar have a great chance to take the stage win. I did pretty good taking 27th place and keeping my losses low means that I have a good chance to contend for a top 10 overall.

In the Australian TT Champion Jersey, Cadel Evans set a great time finishing 3rd.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/CadelEvans.jpg

Wiggins came in 2nd and was only off by a few seconds behind the winner of the stage.

The winner of the stage was Levi Leipheimer and he even passed the rider in front of him at the finish despite the TT being only 9 kilometers long.

What are your goals if you can go to the Tour? A good GC or a stage win?

Good question. Probably a good stage win. The Dauphine will be the indicator on my plan. If I do well then I will fight for contention if not then I will go for stage win.

Stage 2

Today is the only flat stage of the race and the only day for the sprinters to fight it out. The breakaway consisted of 6 riders and they held a gap of about 6 minutes for most of the race.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Thebreakawaygroupof6.jpg

But the teams of the sprinters were not going to let a breakaway win today and they began to increase the speed of the peloton. With 20 kilometers left the final rider was caught by the peloton.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Valentingetscaught.jpg

Boonen wasn’t in great position but with a kilometer left he was going faster than anyone else in the sprint but could he catch Geslin or Stroentinga.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Boonenchasingsprinters.jpg

No. He would have to settle for 3rd as Geslin wins the stage and Stroentinga comes in 2nd.

Just to give an update. I will try to have the Dauphine done by tomorrow and then I will be out of town for the 4th of July and won't begin posting anything until probably the 6th. So when I stop posting those 3 days don't think the story has ended. Pfft

Stage 3
Today’s stage is pretty hilly and the race won’t be won today but it could be lost. There was a group of 13 who got away and they held a gap of about 3 minutes until the peloton began chasing.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Thebreakaway.jpg

When the peloton began to chase it was Astana who took control, trying to set up there all-star team for overall contention. I tried to stay up front in order to stay out of trouble during the climbs.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Astanachasing.jpg

With 30 kilometers left some of the favorites began to attack. I decided to hold back and wait for a later opportunity to get away.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Favoritesattacked.jpg

About 10 kilometers later, there was an opening so I decided to attack.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/Dauphine%20Libere/Iattack.jpg

The peloton was right on my tail and never let me good too far away and I was caught with 10 kilometers left. A couple of the breakaway riders fought for the win and Voss took the win barely ahead of the oncoming peloton.

Now to non-story news. It sucks that Daniel Martin can't be racing in the Tour de France. I was looking forward to watching him. Sad
