Bye Bye Liquigas, Hello Red Bull - Tour of Oman Stage Four (Sagan on Rampage)
Flair
Tour Med - Stage Four

Rousset to Toulon (Mont Faron) - 144.9kml

All about Voeckler today. And making sure Pellizotti keeps the KOM jersey.

We will make the race very hard, and ensure that Antomarchi doesnt get into the lead group without one of our guys there to beat him. Velits is happy to work for Tommy as his aim this tour was for the TT stage and not the overall.

A day in the hills starts with grey clouds overhead. Its not very warm and its possible there will be rain later, as well as quite a few sharp climbs today. Not a nice day. Unless your Thomas Voeckler.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4WicoBreaks_zps12f7bbcc.jpg
With no break managing to establish itself by the first big kill, Wico Kelderman goes on the attack to try and form one.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4WheelSuckers_zps94664fe2.jpg
He succeeds, but none of the group seem willing to work so its unlikely it will last.

The break of the day finally gets away at 108k to go. Welderman doesn't feature as its apparent the pack not going to let that happen, so Damien Caruso takes his place. The other 6 men are Rodriguez (AND), Camano (TNE), Nuekerk (MTN), Proni (VIN), Edmunson (SKY) and Edet (COF). The lead is quickly built up to 3 minutes with 95km to go.

BMC, Sky and Saxo-Tinkoff take control of the peleton and set the pace, holding the gap at around 4 minutes.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4CataldoPain_zps86a3a0a7.jpg
After coming to the front at 50km to go, Dario Cataldo is doing some serious damage to the peleton.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4Stragglers_zpscd89c59c.jpg
A group of 40 riders break off the back, unable to keep up with the pace.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4GoYellow_zps9057ba1d.jpg
The Yellow Jersey of Velits is the first to make his move, attacking with 22km to go, with the break 1'48" down the road.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4Lopezattacks_zpsab376b56.jpg
The attacks come thick and fast as teams scramble to react. Lopez (SKY) puts in a strong move, overhauling Velits, the Slovak is on his tail and ominously, in his wheel is the green jersey of Voeckler who had followed the Spaniard from the start of his attack.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4Gilbertapproach_zpsf4d662ff.jpg
Its not long before Tommy has left Velits behind, bridged to the break and left it behind, using Caruso as he drive hard on the decent down the thte final climb. The peleton has eaten all behind them, with the expection of one certain World Champion Gilbert (BMC), who has broken from the grasp of the pack in chase of Voeckler.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4WCvsTommy_zps64f090fa.jpg
With 4.6k remaining, its just Gilbert and Voeckler at the front, with 30' back to the pack. It's going to be one exciting finish.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4WCvsTommy2_zps764c490b.jpg
With 3k to go, the gap is at 15' to a chasing group of 14.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4TommyGoSolo_zpsde4a859d.jpg
Tommy is out on his own by 1.5, putting in a short burst to drop Gilbert who was just sitting behind him doing nothing. 15 seconds between him and the group of Gilbert, Ratto (RLT), Bakelants (RLT) and Nocentini (ALM). Can Tommy hold off Ratto from stealing another win from him?

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TMS4Victory_zpsae2b4ad6.jpg
YES HE CAN! Today he has timed it to perfection and gets to lift his arms. Thats the Green and Yellow Jerseys for him, as well as his first stage win of the season.

Great day for Tommy but the rest of the team suffered a bit due to it. Velits managed to hang in on the top 10 but evreyone else slide just outside, so we missed out target on 3 top 10s.

Bit dissapointing to miss out on the young riders too really. Wico had other work to do, but Talansky really did nothing all tour and should have performed better.

Tour Review

2 Stage wins (Voeckler and Velits)
2 Other Podiums (2 2nd places Voeckler)
2 Other top 5s (Cataldo and Talansky)
Overall GC (Voeckler)
Overall Points (Voeckler)
Overall KOM (Pellizotti)

Not quite so dominating compared to the previous two tours, but still a good showing. Missing out of the 3 top 10 GC places is a bit of a blow, but it was mainly due to the gaps on the last day where the team had put in lots of effort to launch Voeckler.

Time Trial day was pretty impressive, although of course Thomas Voeckler stole the show there as well.

Tommy is showing great form already. Most of the squad are performing well. Only real concerns are over Talansky, who has underperformed. He was given a free role and asked to do really no work this tour, but has done little to take advantage of it.

What's next for Red Bull Cannondale

Tour of Oman 2.HC
Sagan, Meyer, Moser, Spilak, Phinney, Bak, Gallopin, Haedo

Its out to the Gulf next, with the tour of Oman the next goal on our agenda. All eyes would normally be on Sagan, but we suspect that some of the attention may be on current UCI Tour leader Cameron Meyer too. His shown great form so far this season and will want to put in a strong show on green mountain.

Its a fairly strong team and sweep could well be on the cards again.

Tour Goals
2-4 Stage Wins (dependant on race start list)
Overall GC Win.
Overall Young Riders win.

Tour of Oman - Stage One

Musannah to Sultan Qaboos University -158.6km

Today is a pretty flat day. Theres a slight climb throughout the first half of the day, and a long slight decent through the second but both are barely noticable. It will be a day for the sprinters.

Which would normally mean an almost certain Sagan win. Except, Lotto brought Griepel and Omega Pharma Quickstep brought Cavendish and Boonen. So not totally straight forward.

Depending on how legs are feeling, Sagan might try to get away at the end to stop the sprint. If not, we have a great train too and should be able to put in a good fight against the two best sprinters in the world.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS1BOTD_zps137a3cea.jpg
The days break go away after much attacking, Meyer being center in alot of it. The pack really didnt like the idea of him getting away though, so eventually it was left too Avery (CSS) and Hulsmans (VIN) to be the days break.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS1Sprint1_zpsc9f7842a.jpg
Lots of teams went hard at the first sprint point for the last points. Cavendish (OPQ) took the two points ahead of Breshal (TST), Hushovd (BMC) and Griepel (LTB). We didnt make the effort, saving ourselves for the final run in.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS15ktrain_zps18e32c5e.jpg
The same happens at the second sprint points, before we take over for the run in. With the breakaway easily caught and the peleton shattering into piece due to a strong wind, with 5k to go we have our train running in the front, with Greipel and Cavendish fighting for Sagan's wheel.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS13ktrain_zps09d5f161.jpg
Lotto formed a train but its breaking up, with ours still going strong at 3k to go. Cavendish seems to have fallen back. Martens (BLA) is in Sagan's wheel.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS1KillingThem_zps5dffa06e.jpg
Phinney starts the sprint with 1.7k to go. The pack is massively strung out, with Martens and Griepel the only ones remaining in close contact.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS1SaganOneforOne_zps8d3956c4.jpg
Sagan takes a rather easy win from his leadout man Phinney and it looks like a good 8 second gap back to Cavendish who steals 3rd from Griepel.

Apparently the judges saw things differently and gave the whole pack the same time.

The team are winning all over the World Smile

We certainly are! Massively helped by the teams being idiots today though. I didnt bother to drop them in the run in due to them fighting for the sprints earlier, i just sat there and didnt use any energy. It showed during the run-in. Griepel and Cav got 1 second and 2 points from thier silly sprints. I more then got that back by 1-2 ing XD.

And Lars made top 5 XD

Thanks krisa, glad your enjoying them.

Next Oman stage will go up in the next few hours, got out of work early. Might not get as many updates as usual over weekend/monday as I may be out to family things due to Easter. I will try to ensure at least 1 stage per day though.

Tour of Oman - Stage One

Fanjah to Al Bustan -151.8km

Probably not going to bother with any breakaway riders today. We will just wait, see what happens and chase a break down if we have to. If not, we will set a hard pace at the end anyway. There are two short climbs in the last 20k and they could split the pack. Sagan can likely stay with any group over the bumps and then win because Cav and Griepel arent there. Or are, but are dead from climbing.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS2BOTD_zpsb234aa26.jpg
The break of the day forms with about 25k into the stage. As yesterday, it took a while before one got away and when it did it was not a very large break, Omega Pharma Quickstep doing the work to make sure the group was manageable. Elminger (IAM), Scheirlinckx (AJW) and Wilson (SKT) are the guys allowed to go 2 minutes down the road.

With most teams relunctant to do any work, the gap stretches to 5'30 with 90k to go. Haedo has been putting a very slight tempo in the front, but not enough to hold the gap. We would prefer a hard run in, as it means there are more likely to be splits up the final hill.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS2PhinneyWorks_zps1f4ea419.jpg
With 50k to go, Phinney begins to do some work at the front and by 40k as you can see, the peleton is starting to seriously string out. The break is only 2'21 down the road. This race might start getting lively.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS2OhWeAreFree_zps4d9b210b.jpg
As the pack descends down towards the last sharp hill before the finish, Sagan finds himself unintentionally breaking away from the pack. He keeps a fair effort up, with Spilak usefully placed to protect him down the decent. By the bottom, the lead back to the pack is 30 seconds with 8.5k remaining.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS2Dontstopmenow_zps55b83883.jpg
As the pack cross the 5k to go banner Sagan still has 34 seconds advantage and isnt even breaking a sweat. This could be a great victory on the cards.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS2Havingsuchagoodtime_zpsa9efa808.jpg
And he is still alone out front a he crests the last climb. Can anyone catch Sagan on a decent into the finish? Well no. So... will Peter Sagan Crash?
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS2HavingABall_zpsb9e4d7fd.jpg
Of course not. Its Peter Sagan. That two races, two wins, the 100% man.

He is indeed a beast.

Updates will resume tomo. i was busier then i though over weekend, then yesterday my graphics card died. New one is due tomo, so next update will be then. Memory was uneffected so progress is safe, just cant run the game on the omfglol outdated card i put in so i could check everything else.

Or if i did run, i'd end up killing someone due to the lag.

There is nothing more annoying than Lag Frown

Yeah, its funny to think how on my Laptop i used to put up with it. I thought it was just the game back then. 2 hours per stage.

Anyhow, I have my replacement card and it is installed and working. So I am about to load up PCM and do the next stage of Oman. Which is probably going to be a Sagan win, because his Sagan. And apparently even Cav and Greipel cannot stop him.

Tour of Oman - Stage Three

Nakhal Fort to Wadi Dayqah Dam -193.9km

Win is obviously the goal today. More then that, we aim to break the race a bit. Halfway through the day, there is a really steep hill followed by a steep decent. The plan is, not work early. A break will probably go, get a big a lead, but evreyone will wait for us to do the work. And we will. As soon as that ramp comes up. We will hit it hard and hopefully break the pack (and drop Cav and Greipel.

Then its just a case controlling for a full 100k. Hopefully by putting the whole team on the front on the climb, we will have the bodies on the other side to keep any break ahead of what get left behind.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3PhinneyRidesStybartofront_zps731d2b44.jpg
Things were hot early. Lots of break attempts but Lotto and Quickstep were having none of it. As it became clear they were going to get their sprint, Phinney in the green jersey latches onto a fast moving Stybar (OPQ) to the front of the pack.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3CavsWheel_zpsbc9d9bfe.jpg
He is smart enough to latch onto Cavendish's wheel and follow him over the line for 2nd at the days first sprint, Griepel took 3rd.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3BOTDfinally_zps5e4fc806.jpg
Soon after that, the break got away and fast. Jiang, Downey, Rosseler (GRS), Degand, Potgieter (MTN) and Bookwalter (BMC) are the ones to profit from this lack of action.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3PreClimbControl_zps9a226c56.jpg
With the climb approaching, the Red Bull Cannondale boys hit the front hard. Great day for our sponsors.

The team stayed together with Moser leading hard up the climb and the objective achieved as Phinney pushed hard on the downhill. A group of 65 riders had been formed, with Griepel and Cavendish (and Boonen) all dropped out of it. It was now down to Breschel (TST), Haussler (IAM), Hushovd (BMC) and Sanchez (BLA) to stop Sagan. Or maybe even Cancellara (RST)

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS38krtain_zpsc5d5483b.jpg
As the trains form up with 8k to go, the breakaway is almost caught and it seems like it will be a close fight between us and Saxo-Tinkoff for control of the sprint.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3Breakcaughtracebroken_zps6976382f.jpg
But with 6k to go, its all us as everyone else gets caught up behind the break as usual whilst we fly on through in formation. Nothing is going to stop us now. The pace is not at a very high tempo yet, as everyone is low on energy from the hard pace in the last 100k.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS33k_zpsc9d23664.jpg
Its still all in our hands at 3k as Meyer hands over the Bak
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3Phinneyleadout_zpsd4b085fb.jpg
Phinney leads out on the 1.4k mark.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS31ktogo_zps8b6fe86f.jpg
With 1k to go, its looks like a straight fight between Sagan and Hushovd
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS3SaganThreeforThree_zpsb00d3d49.jpg
Buts its not a fight as Sagan starts Hulking up before his even crossed the line the make it three for three, both here and for the season. Can anyone stop Sagan?

Added last two pictures, just realised i'd not put them into the report last night.

Definately thinking difficulty will go up after Oman.

Tour of Oman - Stage Four

Samail - Jabal Al Akhdhar - 137km

Mountain finish. And its a real mountain finish, not one that i can pretend is a hill. Not that it will stop us from trying.

We will try to get a guy in the break, and then see how high we can keep Sagan in the finish. Meyer will be free to go and attack on the finish if his feeling up to it.

Another victory might be a push today. With out team we would never rule it out, but it is most certainly unlikely we feel. If we can retain the leaders jersey we will be very happy.

i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS4BOTD_zps3d6f6c1d.jpg
The days break was formed of Canuti (BMC), Scheritlinck (ASW), Berhane (EUC), Dekker (GRS), Machado (RLT) and our own Lars Bak, trying to take the burden of working off our shoulders today. They werent allowed to get more then 5 minutes down the road, and that was it for action until the end.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS4ClimbStart_zps1228ad9f.jpg
With 7k to go and the climb just starting, the last the the breakaway riders are within grasp. We have plenty of men at the front at this point.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS4Moserhangs_zps0d1cbfb5.jpg
Monfort blows the race apart, pulling out a lead and leaving people dying and trapped in bad postions. Small groups begin to form with 10 second gaps. We are nowhere to be seen.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS4Meyerboxed_zps59cf5db4.jpg
Meyer has some legs but is being stopped from using them. His going to struggle to catch the front by the time he gets free.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOs4SorensonWins_zpsc78f85f6.jpg
Sorensen (TST) takes the victory, with Monfort and Martin taking 2nd and 3rd 26 seconds back.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS4Meyerfor5_zpse2915494.jpg
Meyer manages to grab 5th place, 1'03" down on the leader and wondering what could have been if he hadnt got blocked out on the climb.
i1283.photobucket.com/albums/a557/Flair17/TOS4Saganfinish_zpsd06f4c9f.jpg
Sagan finishes with next big group over the line, 2'01" back and probably just about still in with a chance of the overall.
