Two out of two for Mr Phinney, the guy is on fire at the moment
Totally. Obviously, his benifitting from a not very strong field but I think his got a real shot at GC. He might even have a better shot Roche depending on how the irishman does in the TT.
Doing the stage 3 update now, should be up in about 45 or so. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures from the last climb (IE, the really freaking important bit) due to my replay save turning into a totally different race that i havent raced leaving me with no way to get them. Fortunately, I'd taken most the pictures live last night so we still have quite a few leading up to the end.
You'll just have to read for the last bit.

Tour of San Luis - Stage 3
La Punta - Mirador del Potrero - 173.1km
Today is the first mountain stage, although it not that challanging. The first climb is not really challanging at all. The decent will be very fast, followed by a long flat section before a very short climb at the end. Its at a punishing gradiant but is not long enough to create gaps that are too big.
With that in mind and Phinney in great form and race position, we will ride a little differently today then you might expect. We will look to control the race from the start, letting smallish break for before setting a fairly slow pace until we hit the big decent that comes just after the halfway point.
We will then push very hard from then on, looking to hurt the climbers that don't like the flat. This will not only help Phinney, but Roche is good on the flat compared to many of the good climbers and so will also benifit. Once we hit the climb, he will be free to do his own thing whilst the rest of the team will pace as hard as they can to keep Phinney as close to the lead as we can at this point.
Break got away fairly early, no-one else put up a fight and I was happy to let a group of four go away.
Graziatol (LAM, Marycz (CCC), Koren (TST) and
Burghardt are the participants.
Not long after the days first KOM point, the
NetApp Endura come to the front to work. Their pace is only marginally higher then the one I was setting, and we are quite happy to sit behind them for a while.
As
Sabatini hits the front to set a punishing pace of the decent,
Lopez (Sky) decides to escape to avoid any wreckage that is caused by the packs fast speed.
The pace is too high for him to stay away for any length of time and he is quickly falling back into the peleton.
His soon at it again though, with
Hardy (COF), Lopez and
Di Luca (Fantini). They get next to no ground before we reabsorb them, the pace being kept very high by ourselves.
They keep coming, this time a group containing
Morkov (TST), Palini (LAM), Lopez, Nerz (BMC) and Di Luca tries to get away to the break which is now just a minute down the road as we approach the first of the small rises before the last climb.
But by the start of climb, everything was back together and a group of about 70 riders began to fight for postition. [b]Roche is rather poorly place just behind out lead diamond.
This is unfortunately the point where the mast controlling the picture feed died out, so we are unable to bring you anymore pictures from the days racing.
To be entirely honest, it was a rather odd climb. With the tempo steady but firm, no-one attacked for a while. Roche remained boxed and riders came up from the right. Eventually, with around 1k to go the attacks came in what was more of a bunch then a typical climbers punch out.
Meyer and Spilak were immediately in the wheels of the attackers, following them as close as they could. Phinney continued to grind his gear, but Roche remained boxed in. He desperately fights for position, eventually ending up still boxed but behind Phinney. Phinney ignores the steam order to just grind his gear, gets out of the saddle and pushes hard to open up space for Roche. He suceeds, but its too late for Roche to get catch the leaders and he has to settle for 7th on the day, 33 seconds behind the winner.
Phinney meanwhile latches onto Roches wheel as he passes and keeps it almost until the line in an incredible show of strength finishng up 9th in the same group as Roche.
Bartosz Huzarski of NetApp Endura takes the day in a great solo victory 14 seconds before Meyer beats the rest of the second escape group (including Spilak) on line for 2nd.
The gaps ended up quite large, contrary to our pre-stage thoughts. Fortunately we are on the good side of the majority of them with only Haedo and Sabatini losing any big chunks of time.

Going to eat, then will do stage 4. Its the time trial, so probably not a big report. I'll probably do a live update style one actually since it makes a bit interesting and i want to practice doing live reports with pictures cos I think it would be very cool if I can get it work with a good timeframe some days where guys can follow it a bit like a real race as it takes place.

Tour of San Luis - Stage 4
San Luis 19.2 km - Individual Time Trial
Huge day for us. Phinney will win, its just about how many seconds/minutes he can by. Meyer is also going to be very strong (although sadly not wearing his national jersey as he currently wears the young riders jersey he is second in that class and Phinney is wearing the Points Jersey today.
Roche obviously needs a strong show today too after the poor finish to yesterday. Then we will have some hard decisions to make regarding the next two stages.
Swedish national TT Champion
Larrson (IAM) sets the early pace with a time of 27 minutes.
But another national TT Champion, this time
Tuft (OGE) of Canada lowers that time by thirteen seconds to 26'47"
That time stands until Oliveria sets a 26'40" as the leading time.
Just a few riders later, that mark is lowered again with
Pinotti (BMC) going ten seconds clear at the top with a strong looking 26"30'.
[b]Roche goes out hard and keeps it up right to the end. He manages to go second, 7 seconds down on Pinotti but ahead of main GC contenders.
Except for those on his own team.
Meyer sets the fastest time through the check point and over the line to finish in 26"04, with just
Phinney and the current GC leader
Huzarski (TNE) to go.
Naturally, by the time he reaches the check point
Phinney leads
Meyer by five seconds.
By the time he crosses the line, its stretched to fifteen seconds as
Taylor Whinney posts the days best time of 25"49'.
This result was pretty expected yet still nice to get. It all leaves us with a bit of a problem is terms of whom we back. Roche performed well today, but Meyer's postition is now very very strong. There will have to be much discussion over the strategy for tommorrow's stage.

In the TT at least. Stage 3 was a bit worrying. We shall see how we go in the mountains today. I really need to decide on a team strategy, I cant try to protect Phinney Meyer and Roche all day.
I think Stage 6 is too hard to Phinney to stay in contention, so I'll probably go Roche/Meyer as the main options.

Yeah, Meyer is looking strong, but he not quite in the same league as Roche/Morkov or even Lovquist on the climbs yet. Roche is well placed with a similar time to the main favourites.
Stage 5 and 6 will make or break the race and I am about to do stage 5 now XD

Tour of San Luis - Stage 5
Juana Koslay to Carolina, 169.8 km
First of the big mountain stages today. Whilst stage 3 featured a small finishing climb days 5 and 6 both have a long steep climbs that will decide the final standing in the day. Today starts with a relatively flat opening 130k, with a Cat 4 climb warming the rider up after that for the accent of Cerro al Amago with a average gradiant above 7%
Once finished, there is a 17km run in to the finish across flat lands where those who couldn't keep up on the mountain are likely to try and close down the gaps.
Our aim today is to finish with the leaders Jersey. Most of the team is starting to display some fatigue from the last few days of effort so its likely to be a very hard day for some. Only Phinney and Roche report feeling fresh.
With that in mind, our main main today is Roche. It will be his duty stick with any groups that get away on the days big climb. As for Phinney, we will see how he looks on the climb and if he hasnt lost touch too much look to run him back into contention on the run in. If the pace today is not high, there is still a chance for Phinney to take overall
Live Reporting
We start today's stage in bright sunshine, with everyone knowing the today is going to hurt.
Roche is the days favorite among the ex-pro's commentating for various new agencies, but the expect several other riders including
Atapuma (COL) to push him hard.
Big early break has formed just 10k out containing 12 riders.
Haedo is there for us. Full break lineup is
Ochoa (AND), Debusshere (LTB), Edet (COF), Pantano (COL), Bono (LAM), Galland (SOJ, Edmundson (SKY), DePatre (VIN), Schillinger (TNE), Burghardt (BMC) and
Marycz (CCC) . The gap to the peleton is 1"30'
Orica want to join the party and send
Beppu (OGE) to join the break.
Koren (TST) in the KOM jersey takes advantage to get a free ride into break himself, likely looking to get himself at least at the top of that table.
With 125k to go,
Sanz (MOV) has made the break, forcing
IAM and
Radioshack to work for the peleton, with the gap now at 2 minutes.
Cammaerts (COF) suffers a puncture but with 107km to go he should make it back to the group. The breaks lead is being held at 2 minutes, with many riders in the break not willing to work for it.
Haedo leads the break calmly across the first sprint line without a fight as the gap stretches out to 2"34'
At 70k the gap reaches 3'30. NetApp - Endura and Radioshack put lots of men on the front to try and keep control.
With 35k to go and the breakaway 3 minutes down the road,
Spilak breaks from the peleton. No-one immediately takes the wheel.
As we start the days large accent
Plaza (MOV), Bakelants (RST) and
Lofkvist (IAM) attack.
Roche is again blocked out and unable to respond immediately.
Meyer does manage to get away, meaning
Roche now has alot of allies down the road when he finally breaks free.
Which he wastes no time in doing, with
Meyer quick to help his leader as soon as he reaches the elite group at 18.5k to go. The days break has almost been overhualed by this new break, with the peleton now 4 minutes back and out of contention now
The only remaining threats lie in a small chase group 2 minutes back containing
Huzarski (TNE), [b]Wellens (LTB) and
Castroviejo (MOV)
Chaos ensues as the original break starts trying to attack out as they are caught by by the late attackers. They manage to get the last mountain points, but Roche has 3 teammates working with him just behind and its soon reeled in.
The group is down to ten by the peak of climb, where our 4 riders hit the front to maintain a fast tempo.
Pantano, Edmunson, Bono, Ochoa, Burghardt and Beppu remain with the RedBull - Cannondale team. A group on 13 riders chases 35 seconds behind.
With the rest of the group barely able to hang on,
Roche decides this is the time to make his winning move. With
Meyer protecting him, he puts the big gear on and sets a pace that no-one is able to keep too, dropping the rest of the leading group behind them as they go duo.
With 5k to go,
Meyer is just hanging onto
Roche's wheel now as the gap stretches to 33 seconds over the chasing group.
Roche takes the win, dropping Meyer right at the end by 8 seconds.
Haedo just misses out on making it a full podium lockout as
Beppu proves stronger on the line, with the group 48 seconds down on Roche.

We stretched our lead at the top of the Team rankings, and Meyer is the lead rider in the Young Riders Clasification. Tim Wellens (LTB) will wear the jersey tomorrow as he is the next highest placed rider, + 2'42 down on Meyer.

Tour of San Luis - Stage 6
Quines to Mirador del Sol, 156km
Defending GC is the aim of the day. With our strength, we should be winning the stage as well. Likely to be Roche with the long hard climb at the end, but Meyer is in such incredible shape at the minute its possible he will manage a win too. They should take the top two positions again today.
Phinney will look to get in the days break. With his time lose yesterday he should be able to get away and scoop up the points sprints along the way.
As planned, Phinney makes the days early break. With
Teklehaimanot (OGE), Lemoine (SOJ), Kurek (CCC), Sanz (Mov) and
Paulinho (TST) all working hard the gap reached 3"30 within 20k of the start.
As that gap hits stretches to 7"20 with 105k to go, NetApp - Endura decide they don't like it anymore and come to the front to start chasing.
The break decides to stop working now its being chased, and
Phinney goes off on his own rather then pull them all along.
This has the desired effect for a while, with the group working hard to pull him back and maintaining the effort for a few kilometers.
But its soon back to wheel sucking on
Phinney , who once more breaks the shackles, this time for good. The victory isnt going to happen wiith this break, so he decides to ensure top placing at the days sprints.
With 36k till the finish,
Bakelants (RST) is the first of the leaders to attack. He is soon caught,
Phinney still leading the peleton by 3"45 with the rest of the days break 1 minute behind him.
As soon as the first attack is reeled in
Atapuma (COL), Lofkvist (IAM) and
Mori (LAM) go clear and open up half minute to the peleton.
Haedo and
Sabatini come to the front to shut the move down, setting a very punishing pace across the flat into the final climb to prevent any further attacks.
This time as we come into the climb, we not only have control at the front but
Roche is positioned well, being third in line.
Meyer is just coming through out of shot, but has a clear path. All the breakaway riders have been caught and reabsorbed and all attacks shut down.
The expected attacks don't come as Spilak keeps a high tempo before
Meyer takes to the front with 2k to go and starts to split the front,
Roche just staying in his wheel but not feeling as good as the young Australian today.
Its a role reversal from yesterday, as
Meyer pulls
Roche clear of the bunch before dropping him just before the line.
And another great 1-2 for RedBull-Cannondale team.

Yeah sutty, and day 6 was even better. I'm in all the freaking jerseys again. I didnt even try to get the mountain one, but double points on stage finishes I guess.
Meyer is insane! His a total monster!

And hopefully we shall pick up another stage victory tommorrow as its another sprint. Maybe we might be a bit tired and not able to dominate with the train, at the moment I doubt it. Our fitness levels are just too awesome compared to the rest of the field. Meyer is probably near his peak form considering he hit training camp, Aussie nats, Santos and now San Luis.
A;ways good to have someone eat up the early events, gets morale up and its easy WT/CQ points.
Gonna get the last stage up tonight too. Thanks for everyones comments, its great to know your enjoying the wins too

Tour of San Luis - Stage 7
San Luis to Juana Koslay, 154.7 km
Goals for the day. Ensure Meyer retains his jerseys. This will be achieved by sending Spilak down the road to take the mountain points away from any rivals. The rest is just making sure Meyer finishes the race which shouldn't be hard.
We will then try to win the stage with Phinney in a sprint, since his shown such great form lately. Hopefully our team will have the strength to put together a good train again.
Spilak takes the days KOM points securing the jersey for Meyer, with no break yet formed.
BOTD -
Feillu (SOJ), Rutkiewicz (CCC), De Patre (VIN), Puccio (SKY) have 2'20" at 120km to go.
Spilak holds the gap at 3"30' with 80k to go and begins what we expect to be the beginning on a very long 40k+ long shift at the front.
Lampre and an IAM rider come in front and set the same pace I was. We tuck in behind. With a 2"30 gap and 35k remaining, we can afford to sit back a little.
With 10k to go, our 5 man train is formed with
Spilak now resting in the peleton after his hard work. The break is just in sight, 30 seconds down the road and probably sitting up.
At the 4k mark is very close, alot of riders up at the front. Positioning is going to be key.
As we head under the flan rouge it is still very close, with
Hinault (IAM), Petit (COF) and
Boivin (AND) just ahead to the right.
Its not going to be Phinney's day today, as he find himself caught behind
Richeze (LAM) and can't get around him.
Who is just edged over the line in a photo finish by
Rafael de Mattos Andriato who takes the final stage.
Disappointing not to wrap up the tour with a win, but taking all the jerseys home with us and 5 stage victories is a fine consolation prize.

Certainly we have. Another great tour. I'll do a review tomo, and some updating of the front posts. Wont get a stage in tomo, as i think i'll prolly have some stat increases/scouting reports to cover by the time i get to the next race.
Totally new squad for that too XD.
