Wow, thanks for all the bananas guys! 1.000.010 if I'm correct Still, I'm extremely ambitious for that one additional banana by laidbackmarc so I will do everything to keep the overall lead.
Couldn't play today but the next stage will be up tomorrow.

January 27, 2012 – Tour de Langkawi
Tour de Langkawi, Stage 5
So, here we go for the overall. The climb is shorter but much more intense than yesterday and there should be a higher selection. We should know who's the overall winner of this Tour today.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
After yesterday, I really have hopes for the overall. With my loyal helpers and my good shape, I hope to keep my couple of seconds. It will be a really tough challenge but I'm confident that I can manage it.
Km 4: | The usual attacks from minor riders open the race. | Km 18: | A twelve men group got loose from the pack with about 1'30. | | | Km 42: | By the time of the second intermediate sprint, the advance grew to 3'30. | Km 48: | Two riders from United Healthcare attack and slowly close the gap to the escapees. | Km 58: | With the front group being away more than 5'30, Liquigas slowly increases the pace. | Km 102: | Liquigas took it easy and when the group hits the final 22 km of ascent, they're still 5 minutes in front. With their best placed rider being 2'42 back, they most probably won't compete for the overall, still a stage win is in reach for them. | Km 105: | The first attacks from the packs begin. Alessandro Bisolti (Farnese Vini) starts it. | | | Km 111: | Three riders around Bisolti are still a bit in front of the pack while Liquigas again overtook reponsibility. With 13 km to go, the original escapees are still more than 3 minutes away. | | | Km 114: | Under Alessandro Vanotti's work, the peloton splits. Dominik Nerz in his yellow leader jersey sits comfortably on third position. | Km 116: | Bisolti and his two companions are back in the pack. The front group has only 2'30 left Dominik is back in the virtual yellow jersey. | | | Km 117: | As Movistar overtakes the pace on the chase, the escapees quickly are in view. Only Differdange's Gil Thimmesch is still a bit further up the road. | Km 119: | Entering the last 5 km, the favorites still keep calm. Valerio Agnoli controles the pace, Dominik is well protected by Damiano Caruso. | | | Km 121: | Thimmesch is caught. Liquigas and Lampre are out in front. Everything looks fine for Dominik... | | | Km 121: | … but then Przemyslav Niemiec attacks! Along with Maxime Bouet, Dominik tries to counter. 3 km to go! | | | Km 122,5: | Niemiec has a small advance but Bouet, Nerz and Freddy Montana are right behind him. Remember, Dominik still has a minute from yesterday. | | | Km 123: | Under the flamme rouge, David Arroyo also made it to the front and quickly overtakes the three chasers. Niemiec is still in front but his advance doesn't seem big enough for a shot at the overall... | | | Km 124: | Arroyo was quick but his reaction came too late! Niemiec takes the stage win. Dominik clings on to a fantastic fifth spot and keeps the overall by 12 freaking seconds to David Arroyo! What a success! |

Yeah! I did it! Or more precisely: We did it! Because as yesterday, I have to praise my team for the incredible support they're giving me here.
Can you believe it guys? If nothing really bad happens, I'm going to win this Tour! What a start for this season! Not to mention that this will be by far the biggest success of my career so far. I'm really happy!
Now it's time to bring the leader's jersey home in the upcoming stages, which means to stay out of trouble and crashes, basically. Also, I might go for an intermediate mountains sprint to take that jersey, too. And, of course, we want more in the sprints.
But all that planning stuff isn't important now! We're going out tonight, have a little drink or two and celebrate our great success here.
See you,
|

@ Avin: Indeed, the biggest success so far But as the next stage will show, everything can happen ...
@ tsmoha: Luckily, the race wasn't too hard before the last 3-4 km so Dominik had enough energy left.
@ johannes-w: Well he's not quite through yet But he has a good position!
@ dienblad: Well the last stages won't create time gaps among the favorites and Arroyo and Niemiec aren't quite the ones who'd get bonus seconds in a sprint^^

Tour de Langkawi – Stage 6
After the hard stages the previous days, the riders are on easier terrain today. It should be a sprinter's thing.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
We have three assignments today: No. 1 is to keep the pack together til the mountain sprint so that I can overtake the mountain jersey. No. 2 is to get a good result in the expected final mass sprint. As Davide Cimolai is still in a bad shape, we might again go for Maciej Paterski. And last but not least, in fact most important, is to keep me out of any trouble.
Km 3: | Here we are, the first riders make their moves... | Km 4: | And immediatly, Liquigas makes an imense pace. | Km 10: | Still many attacks, still Liquigas doesn't let anyone go. | Km 16: | Liquigas did their job and Dominik goes for it... | | | Km 17: | Without any problems, Dominik overtakes his third jersey. Assignment No. 1: Completed. | Km 23: | After the mountain sprint, ten rider broke free. | | | Km 47: | At the first – uncontested – intermediate sprint, their advance grew to 5 minutes. | Km 71: | 6 minutes is enough, the sprinter teams increase the pace in the pack. | | | Km 89: | With 50 km to go, the worst case scenario happens for GC's second David Arroyo. He gets a puncture! | Km 92: | Surprisingly, only one Movistar rider falls back to help his leader to close the gap of 2 minutes to the peloton. | Km 101: | And they don't seem to make it: The gap slowly grows! What a pity for the Spaniard. | Km 119: | With 20 km to go, the escapees are almost caught. The expected mass sprint will come. David Arroyo won't make it back and lose his good overall place. | Km 131: | While the break is being caught, a couple of riders try to surprise with a late attack... | Km 136: | But of course they didn't succeed. Under the lead of Dominik Nerz, Liquigas builds a train and tries to compete with NetApp, who are again setting up Impey perfectly for the sprint. | | | Km 137: | The train didn't really work out, the Liquigas riders are a bit in chaos. On the right side, Saur sprints for Casper. | | | Km 138: | Within the last kilometer, it's Casper's lead out Geslin who's suddenly opened a gap. Behind him, everything is very close. | | | Km 139: | Geslin couldn't hold the speed so it's again Daryl Impey, the dominator of sprints in Malaysia, who wins. Paterski misses the Top 10. | Km 139: | Arroyo eventually loses 7 minutes and falls back to 37th overall. It's a complete mistery why Movistar didn't support him more. |

As I said we had three assignments. And we achieved at least two of them. I got the KoM lead in addition to the overall lead and stayed out of trouble - David Arroyo's example showed that I'm not safe yet, although I'd definetly get more help from my team.
But what we failed in was the sprint. Although I did well in leading the others out, Davide and Tiziano soon let me know that they didn't feel well and wouldn't be of much use when it comes to the sprint. So Maciej had to look for another wheel very quickly and couldn't repeat his good result from three days ago. We might just bet on following another train tomorrow.
Anyway. Stay tuned,

January 29, 2012 – Tour de Langkawi
Tour de Langkawi – Stage 7
A totally flat stage again. It's not too long either so it shouldn't be much of a problem for the riders. Again, a sprint finish can be expected.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
Just as yesterday, our main goal is to keep me out of trouble. We saw yesterday what can happen, Arroyo lost pretty much everything. Apart from that, we again will try our best in the final sprint, probably not with an own train though, it didn't really work yesterday.
Km 5: | It took a bit but now the first riders try to get into the break. Liquigas' Tiziano Dall'Antonia is among them. | Km 30: | After a long struggle, the group is caught again. | Km 33: | And here go the next ones... | | | Km 40: | Seven riders are out in front. Alessandro Vanotti is among them but again, it doesn't look too good for them. | Km 53: | The group indeed got caught and now it's Differdange's Frank Dressler alone in front. | | | Km 62: | Another team leader crashes! GC's eleventh, Bartosz Huzarski (NetApp) hits the ground! | Km 64: | Two riders drop back to bring their leader. Let's see if it works better than yesterday. | | Km 67: | Wow, that went fast – Huzarski is back. | | | Km 73: | While Dressler is still a bit in front, Casper beats Impey for second on the intermediate sprint. | Km 91: | Bram Schmitz (Dirk Grepdon) catches up with Dressler. David Le Lay (Ag2r) and Vitaly Kondrut (Lampre) attack from the pack and are on the chase. | Km 109: | The leading duo got an advance of 5 minutes. Le Lay and Kondrut are a minute behind. | Km 136: | The advance of the leaders decreased to 2'30. 30 km to go and the sprinter teams are in control of the race. | | | Km 159: | Nothing more happened til now, the escapees got caught and the sprint is about to begin. Paterski grabbed Daryl Impey's wheel who dominated the sprints recently. | | | Km 162: | Dominik Nerz sits on Casper's wheel. Impey is a bit behind, still with Paterski behind him. Barbé tries a late attack which is condemned to fail... | | | Km 163: | The sprint is in full play. The Saur guys again did a perfect job and Dominik has a great position behind Casper. | | | Km 164: | Casper still is in perfect position with 1km to go. Jesus Del Nero is closing up... | | | Km 165: | … but went for it way too early. While Nerz and Paterski fight for a Top 10, Jimmy Casper takes an easy win thanks to Geslin's great lead out. |
1 | Jimmy Casper | Saur - Sojasun | 3h49'11 | 2 | Bobbie Traksel | Landbouwkrediet | s.t. | 3 | Bernardo Riccio | D'Angelo & Antenucci - Nippo | s.t. | 4 | Daryl Impey | Team NetApp | s.t. | 5 | Lloyd Mondory | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | 6 | Frédéric Amorison | Dirk Grepdon Wanzele - Accent | s.t. | 7 | Bartosz Huzarski | Team NetApp | s.t. | 8 | Anthony Geslin | Saur - Sojasun | s.t. | 9 | Boy Van Poppel | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | s.t. | 10 | Francesco Gavazzi | Lampre - ISD | s.t. | 11 | Dominik Nerz | Liquigas - Cannondale | s.t. | ... | 14 | Maciej Paterski | Liquigas - Cannondale | s.t. |

What a pity for Maciej - the one time he gets Daryl Impey's wheel, the South American has a rather bad day. Me instead, I picked the perfect wheel. Anthony Geslin is a great lead out and by following Casper as long as I could, I pretty much got the maximum out of the sprint. Almost a Top 10, that's really good for me.
Apart from the sprint, the stage was unspectacular. NetApp showed how to support a leader who fell back, still I hope we won't have to deal with that.
Three stages to go,
Stay tuned,

Almost top ten on a sprint stage! Great work, hope Nerz can keep the overall lead!

@ kitface: Oh, right, thanks. I'll fix that.
@ laidbackmarc: Your really know how to motivate Looking forward to it.
@ Neillster: Sprint isn't really Nerz's best metier but he simply followed the right wheel and got lucky.

January 30, 2012 – Tour de Langkawi
Tour de Langkawi, Stage 8
The flat stages continue, although this one features a couple of hills as well as a bit ascending finishing straight. Although we still can expect a bunch sprint, a break might have a chance today.
Dominik's Pre-Race Comment
No news: Main goal is again to keep me out of trouble thus securing the leader's jersey. Due to today's profile, we might also try to get a man into the break, probably Tiziano Dall'Antonia. Let's see how things work out.
Km 2: | Rob Goris (Dirk Grepdon) launches the first attack of the race. Among others, Tiziano Dall'Antonia follows. | | | Km 12: | Strong winds affect the peloton. The riders have to be attentive not to be trapped too far behind. | Km 20: | A group of four around the Liquigas rider is still in front but the pack chases them hard. | Km 24: | Everything is back together. | | | Km 40: | Five riders including Davide Cimolai broke free and lead by two minutes to the pack. Three riders are a minute behind them. | Km 47: | As Cimolai wins the first intermediate sprint, their advance grew to 4'30. | Km 71: | The three riders joined the front. Eight riders work together to make it to the line. The advance is at 7'30. | | Km 92: | Within the last 75 km, the advance starts to decrease. Seems like the sprinter teams won't let the win away. | | | Km 112: | Protected by Damiano Caruso, Dominik Nerz comfortably sits in the pack. | Km 128: | Over the mountain, the group still holds an advance 2'40. 37 km to go... | Km 136: | Eloy Ruiz (Andalucia) tries a last desperate attack from the front group as the pack comes closer. | Km 145: | 20 km to go, one minute left for the escapees. | Km 152: | As every escapee got caught, it looks like a mass sprint now. | | | Km 163: | Vladimir Isaychev (Katusha) tries an attack on the last 3 km. Nerz on the left side counters while the sprint behind them is pretty much a mess. | | | Km 164: | While Nerz's attack was condemned to fail, Geslin again perfectly leads out Casper while Riccio makes his move on his left. | | | Km 165: | Casper takes another undisputed win in front of Bobbie Traksel and Daryl Impey. Nerz and Paterski completely mess up their sprints and end up 27th and 18th, respectively. |

Hm. Mediocre stage for us. We got our presence in the break but it didn't turn out as we hoped. Also, I again did stay out of trouble but we got the worst sprint result so far. I pretty much messed it up as I was leading out Paterski but then decided to follow the last attack – very silly, but what the heck.
See you tomorrow,
