Look at the gap. Amazing, Peter Sagan is just too strong for everyone else. What a monster! Brilliant season end.

Guys, thanks so much for all the great comments! Lombardia was surely the biggest win I've ever had in PCM on extreme. It was fantastic to see Damiano and Peter just riding away! I benefited a lot from their fitness (Cunego 97, Sagan 96) and especially Sagan's daily shape (+5, Cunego 0), but still
You're motivation me a lot to go to the next season as soon as possible. But I'm still working on the reviews and the DB, so it may take a little while. As a fill-in, here's a small review from an extraordinarily successful October:

Octobre 16, 2012
+++ FDJ and GreenEdge relegate +++ Ferrari announces new team +++
The fight against relegation to the Continental Division is decided: After strong results from Mauro Santambrogio, Florian Stalder and Cadel Evans in September and Octobre, BMC cheated the gallows and saved their spot in the World Tour. While for FDJ, everything was lost pretty early, it was the Australian project GreenEdge who were overtaken by BMC. They have to go down and tackle the re-promotion next year.
Their places will be taken by two French teams. Cofidis was dominant in the continental circuit and return to the first division of cycling after three years as a professional continental team. And since Geox, the second best continental team in the CQ Ranking, dissolves, Saur - Sojasun takes the second promotion spot. Both teams will have a hard time fighting in the World Tour next season but both should be great to watch.
Their World Tour adventure was short: After only one year, GreenEdge has to leave the highest division.
It has been around for a while and we already reported it in mid-august, but now they made it official: Luxury car manufacturer Ferrari will form an own cycling team. Although "form" might not be the fitting word since they overtake Androni's license. But with a lot more money involved, some new and big names are expected to join.
Therefore, the UCI agreed to let them join the World Tour circuit, since with Astana, as you may remember, another team gave up their WT license.
We will see this legendary logo quite often next year. Ferrari establishes their own World Tour team!
After all that, the World Tour teams for 2013 are now fix. Here they are:
UniCredit
Lampre - ISD
Ferrari
Euskaltel - Euskadi
Movistar Team
Team Sky
Vodafone - Santander
BMC Racing Team
Garmin - Barracuda
Argos - Shimano
Rabobank
QuickStep
Lotto - Belisol
Cofidis
Saur - Sojasun
Katusha Team
Leopard - Trek
T-Mobile

Argh! I mixed them up with Saur there. FDJ is getting relegated, Saur takes their spot. Thanks for the attentive reading

I'm really excited for the new season!
Its sad to see Liquigas go as one of my favourite teams, but I'm glad to see Ferrari in the peloton
Maybe Meiji can join the party, as I know they are a future sponsor

Guys, I'm really, really happy that you enjoyed reading the last season. I hope that I can match your expectations for next year, I already thought of some small adjustments, I think that there's still room for improvement.
As for Liquigas, I feel a bit the same, on the one hand it's a shame because the sponsor has a tradition and the last two years were great. But on the other hand, a new sponsor breathes new life into the team, I really like the jersey and last but not least, new is always better! So I'm really looking forward to it.
First part of the reviews should be online soon! Stay tuned.

October 17, 2011
Greetings guys,
hereby, I'd like to officially open up the season reviews! Just like last year, the first part is a personal review with my Top 5 moments of 2012, followed by a small visualisation of my development in the last two years. Here we go:
[5] German Championships ITT
A tenth place doesn't sound too spectacular but it meant a lot to me. Time trialing has been (well, let's be honest, is still) my weak point and last year, I finished 19th. My result this year was a huge sign for me that I'm on the right track. Not to mention that riding the national championships is always special.
[4] Brixia Tour
The Brixia Tour, a five-day stage race in Italy, was my highlight in July. To sum it up: I came in fifth overall, got the mountain and the young riders jersey. In the picture, you can see me on stage two, sprinting after Robert Kiserlovski and Domenico Pozzovivo, some of the strongest climbers in those kinds of races. It was a real rush of adrenaline, feeling that I could (almost) keep up with those big guys.
[3] Österreich-Rundfahrt
The Österreich-Rundfahrt provided me with the second best stage racing result of my career. Only beaten my an enormously strong Johann Tschopp, I finished second. And again, I also took the mountain and the young riders jersey. My best performance was on stage five, a heavy mountain stage with two demanding climbs. I could shake off all my rivals only to get beaten by the last remaining escapee in the sprint for the stage win.
[2] Vuelta a Espana
The Vuelta a Espana, my second Grand Tour, was one straight rush of joy and happiness. The whole team performed perfectly. A complete domination, culminating in Vincenzo Nibali's overall triumph. I achieved maybe the most important result of my career so far, a nineth overall, leaving behind the likes of Ezequiel Mosquera, Tiago Machado and more, and of course the white jersey, which you can see me wearing on the podium in Madrid.
But not only the sportive aspects were fantastic: We also had a great atmosphere in the team. I got to know Peter Sagan really well, as we shared a room, and we became very good friends. And on the rest days, we had nice times with all the riders and the whole crew. It has been the best three weeks of my life.
That sounds hard to top? It is! But one moment did it:
[1] Le Tour de Langkawi - Stage 4
My favorite moment of 2012 and probably my all time favorite, was of course my first professional win ever! It was my first race of the year and on Stage 4, I caught the perfect moment. Riding towards the finish, the main group in which I was present slowed down, everyone was watching eachother, when I decided to just go for it. I attacked with three kilometers to go, tortured every single muscle of my body and pulled it off! The feeling that I had when I crossed the line was something that I will never forget. It got even better when I realised that I had actual chances to win the whole race - which I really did. All in all, that was my moment of the year!
Development of Attributes
As promised, I will also give you a small visualisation of my development in the last two years. Here's a chart of my average skills:
You can see that I had a very steady development this year. It hasn't been as steep as last year but I guess it's normal that you develop more the younger you are. I'm definetely very pleased with how things went in the last two years.
Development of Ranking Points
In addition to my attributes, there are also the points I achieved for the two rankings, the CQ Ranking and the World Tour Ranking:
The jump I made here in 2012 is imense. I had my first good results in the World Tour circuit in Poland and especially in Spain and got my first points there. But more impressive is what I've done in Continental Races. I increased my CQ Points by more than 8 times! It's great to see my progress on the paper, not only to feel it.
So, that would have been that. My personal review of 2012 is over. You can now expect the summaries of the bigger events in cycling. I hope you're going to enjoy them.
Greetings,
|
