The Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec is one of the youngest races in the main calendar. Firstly held in September 2010, it has had ProTour status from the beginning, although its standing among the riders might not be as high as most of the other major classics, probably because it's not a grown race and lacks of tradition.
The race is a rather short, hilly circuit which is ridden multiple times. The ascent itself isn't too challenging, but gets its severity through the repetition over 200 kms. Still, we might not see a solo winner but rather a sprint from a shorter group.

Liquigas – Cannondale scored an amazing double win in a rather weak starting field last year. I think it's safe to say that that won't happen again.
Cunego comes with reference of a podium place in Plouay and is the top favorite. But the field, though missing the very best puncheur, is decent and dense, the likes Bertagnolli and Lloyd shouldn't be underestimated.

Well, in Damiano Cunego, we have the top favorite, so we surely want the win again. He's in good shape so we're confident he can make it, but against those opponents, it's everything but easy-sledding.

The first half of the race was pretty calm with a large break not more than three minutes away, when suddely, halfway through the course, pre race favorite Leonardo Bertagnolli attacked. He quickly reached the break but of course Liquigas saw him as a real threat and pulled everyone back.
The following four men break including Gianni Meersman (FDJ) and Benjamin Noval (Movistar) was also chased down by Liquigas, BMC (for Santambrogio) and Unicef (for Hermans). As the latter two were far from being favorites here, it was a bit surprising.
But Unicef evidentally had big plans as Hermans attacked on the third to last ascent already. He had no chance, though, and Unicef again started to participate in the chase. Some attacks on the last descent were condemned to failure so that 45 riders were together on the last flat part before the finish.
But before it can come to a bunch sprint, Damiano Cunego, who kept quiet until now, attacks with 3 kms to go on top of that very small hill right before the final ascent. He showed that he his clearly the best puncheur present and took the win with ease. Behind him, Daniel Martin outsprinted Ben Hermans by centimeters taking the second place.
Overlapped riders spoil the photo, Cunego's advance is actually pretty big.
Damiano Cunego is now the new World Tour leader and could even increase his lead with another strong result tomorrow in Montréal. With two men in the Top 10, BMC collects valuable World Tour points. The team overtakes FDJ and GreenEdge and is now no longer on a relegation spot.

The Winner
After numerous second places (and the win at Tirreno-Adriatico), Damiano Cunego can again celebrate a big win at a World Tour race. The transfer to Liquigas did him really good and he looks to be in great shape for the races to come, including the worlds and Il Lombardia.

Not much to say, Damiano Cunego did his job, we're extremely happy and proud of his performance. No one came close to him today. We hope for a similar outcome tomorrow. Also, we want to acknowledge the massive domestique work the rest of the team did today. Without that, the win might not have been possible. Unfortunately, the next race is already coming up tomorrow, so the party has to wait...

But the best thing is indeed Dominik winning the white jersey, now he can try it in france maybe?
Just as its "sister race", the GP de Québec, the race in Montréal celebrates only its third holding. And similarly, its renomée is improvable. But the tradition will come, and the starting lists are already quite nice.
The course is also comparable to the race yesterday: It's a parcours over the Mont Royal, around the University of Montréal. The hill is steeper than yesterday, but in contrary to then, the race doesn't end with an ascent but instead with a descent towards the finish line. The weak sprinters have to seek for the decision in the hills.

Sagan and Ponzi did the incredible last year: The double double! This isn't possible anymore, but still Cunego could win the fourth Canadian Classic for Liquigas in a row!
The favorites are basically the same as yesterday. Cunego stands out a bit but the finish doesn't suit him that well. The likes of Bertagnolli or the strong Santambrogio might have better chances in case of a sprint finish.

The support for Damiano Cunego isn't that strong with Capecchi and Dall'Antonia, but he proved to be in good shape with his win yesterday and is certainly the top favorite. Nothing but a win is the goal.

It took a long time until a breakaway could finally establish itself but eventually, eleven men around Yohann Offredo, Taylor Phinney and Grischa Niermann got away.
Liquigas already started the chase as halfway through the course, a couple of riders around the likes of Robert Kiserlovski, Steven Kruijswijk and Wout Poels attacked. They got a gap of 1'30 but were considered too dangerous and were reeled back in. With two laps and 20 kms to go, everything was together again.
Soon, some bigger guns attacked. Ben Hermanns and David Moncoutié posed a real thread for Cunego but Liquigas showed that they infact have a quite strong team in Canada and pulled them back.
56 riders were still together crossing the last „big“ climb of the day. When it all looked like a sprint decision, Damiano Cunego tried to get away on the last very small ascent. But while he did achieve a split, he couldn't create a gap large enough to take the win. Eventually, he got overtaken by five riders. The winner: BMC's Mauro Santambrogio. The podium was completed by Matthew Lloyd (GreenEdge) and Jelle Vanendert (Omega).
Mauro Santambrogio wins the sprint in a dominant way. He takes some extremely valuable WT points for BMC.

The Winner
Mauro Santambrogio had a pretty nice season with a stage win and the third overall in the Tour de l'Ain, a second spot at the GP de Wallonie and Top 10s at the WT events in Plouay and Quebec. He is the most successful BMC rider this year, which is a bit surprising, but without him, BMC would already be certain to be relegated. This great win is the climax of his season so far.
Liquigas Resumé
The sixth place is not what we wanted. But Cunego tried everything he could and at least finished in the Top 10, so not a complete failure today. Also, Eros Capecchi and Thomas Peterson on 15 and 21 did very well today.

I am writing to you from the beautiful small village of Llofriu, north of Barcelone, where I'm having a little after-Vuelta vacation with Vincenzo Nibali, Daniel Oss and Mauro Finetto. We were having a great time in the past days, celebrating the results of the Vuelta and relaxing from the exertions.
But as you might remember, there's still the one big transfer that I owe you. Kudos to dienblad, who got it first, and to Alakagom and Pellizotti2, who also guessed it right:

As you can see, Heinrich Haussler developed into a real monster, similar to Peter Sagan. He is now the best cobbled rider worldwide and also a very strong sprinter as well as puncheur. Together with his former compatriots Klemme and Burghardt, plus the young Italian prospect Daniel Oss, he fills our only weak point - the northern classics - and will be a force to be reckoned with.
I'm really looking forward to riding with him, also it's always great to have another German-speaking guy on the team.
As you know, my season is over, but our team is far from being done. First of all, a couple of riders including Damiano Cunego and Peter Sagan will start for their countries in the world championships, then Tour of Beijing and of course the big highlight, Il Lombardia, await!

A small note from the author: In my opinion, the team is getting too strong. When I signed Haussler in early July, he still had 82 cobbles. But well, now it's too late, so the roster for next season stays the way it's planned. But you can expect me to tackle that problem in the transfer period next year.

The UCI world championships are among the most prestigeous races in the cycling calendar. Held since 1921 in changing places, the winner is awarded with the prominent rainbow jersey for the following year. The time trialing, however, is part of the event only since 1994. Record winner with five trumphs is Fabian Cancellara.
In 2012, the UCI world championships stop by in the Netherlands. The time trialing parcours is, in contrary to last year, really hilly. The 41 kilometers are a constant up and down and may suit a puncheur better than a pure time trialist.

The Winner
Now that really is a surprise: Peter Sagan, not really known for his time trialing, wins the world championships in exactly that discipline! Two things obviously contributed to this amazing success: His great shape after a strong Vuelta, and the hilly course the race took here in the Netherlands. He will now wear the rainbow jersey for one year, and he even has the chance to gain the road race title as well in a couple of days!

Oh! My! God! We all knew Peter was good, some even call him a beast! But that?! Time trialing world champion?! That was a huge surprise for all of us in the team. We are totally overwhelmed and of course extremely proud to have a world champion aboard next year.
As for my German compatriots, Tony Martin told me that he was very disappointed with his race. It was his big chance, in the absence of Fabian Cancellara, but evidentally, he didn't get enough support from his team, fitness schedule-wise. But well, two places on the podium and two more in the Top 10 are a great result anyway.

Well i dont mind that the team is getting a little strong but you should defenitly do something about this in the next transfer periode as you already quite dominated in this season with great riders like for example NERZ
