Other Races 2012

No way Gilbert is in form for the Ardennes. He's sucking too much for that.

Great and impressive ride by Voeckler, but............ Man, that guy is irritating, pulling all these faces and showing his tongue every 25 metres. Even my wife, who also watched the race said the same....

He might be able to ride himself into some sort of form over the next week and a bit for Liege, but other than that...

Did you guys see that corner in Overijse? Ciolek, Sagan and Pineau went down in the same corner at exactly the same spot spread over 3 laps Grin

Also Andy Schleck cracked after a crash and gave up.
I wonder where Frank is in his preparation.

Ardenne favourites for me:
Sagan
Valverde
Rodriguez
Sanchez
(Frank Schleck???)

Sam, Sanchez is not sure whether he'll do Ardennes yet, he might skip Amstel. He wants to focus on Tour and Worlds. Really hope he will ride though. Valverde had flew and didn't race in Pais Vasco, he's unknown quantity as he feels now as he didn't race in quite a while, but he will be probably always a contender. Rodriguez is my tip for both Amstel and FW. Evans might be good too Wink

If i ain't mistaking, Cunego hasn't been doing bad in recent weeks either.

Best chance ever to win an Ardennes Classic for Rodriguez, no doubt. Would surprise me a lot if he doesn't win FW.

Seems to me like we need an Ardennes Classics thread soon. Wink

Yea, he's a good candidate too. Van Avermaet might be a dark horse if Gilbert doesn't rapidly improve as well. Would give Henao/Uran a shout, definitely both could contend. Henao for Amstel and Uran for LBL podiums. Gerrans to be 2nd again in Amstel is my bold prediction though Pfft

What about Nocentini and Gasparotto? Will Scarponi participate in Amstel?

I didn't know that Alakgom Wink
I think BMC has a luxe-problem. I don't see Gilbert giving his own chances up for Evans...

Hey...Thomas Dekker was actually decent. Also protecting Howes breakaway by countering some attacks when that group was away.

Not that he has a chance in the ardennes classics. But it's good to see him progress from finishing in nomands land to top 20 in these races.
I think instead of next year he can already be good in the autumn season. A good worlds is possible Smile

I'd say Valverde all the way. He's proven last week-end that he was still in an excellent form, despite being sick (or so I read).
Evans is a question mark too, he was really strong at the Critérium International. I can't see him winning the three Ardennes races though. One maybe, two at best.
Sagan didn't seem as strong in RVV that in MSR or early season races, his form peak may be past it. He has the profile though, at least for the first two.

Wrong thread? Wink

Yeah, confused by Ruben's message right above mine, and knowing there were two threads talking about Belgian classics, one for "other races" and a dedicated one). Oh well...

Sean De Bie has been riding well. A name to watch out for?

Of course wining by two minutes is impressive. I'm not saying that, but you have to look at the competition in the race and to say the least it's not WT standard. Anyway I don't think that because you have two riders of acceptable level you should get a Giro wildcard.

Sorry, but this is a bit disrecpectful. NetApp is this year twice a team, both with results and visibility in races, they pawned Aqua at Coppi-Bartali and are continuing great results.
And they are not only two good cyclists- Barta, Schulze,Wyss,Brändle, König and the others are very good riders, i think König could enter top 20 overall at Giro if he will sty out of trouble.
If Acqua e Sapone wanted Giro wildcard, they should have shown us something in 2012Wink
