UCI Ranking is reset to 0 at the start of the year, yes. So winner of the first race will be the first leader in the UCI Ranking.
I meant I had gotten the question about how the starting position would be done for race 2
To summarize starting positions:
Every row counts 10 riders (in almost all races).
Races 1 - 3: Based on UCI Number (found in the final season preview)
Races 4 - final race: Based on UCI Ranking (so for race 4 their position will be based on their efforts of the first 3 races)

It's just a conspiracy by the european elitists to keep the Americans as far back as possible for as long as possible

Those UCI fools will do anything to keep the Americans down!
To be fair now, this rule is actually extremely kind on the newcomers. In real life, it's decided by their ranking but it doesn't reset at the start of the season.
Now in the game, the riders get 3 (different) profiles to move up and score some UCI points. With some skill and a bit of luck, they're in 2nd row position by Hobart
Either way, I'm still not very sure on the matter. I'll keep it like this but anyone with a better idea for next season, let me know. Another idea I had (but less kind on new riders) is to only change positions twice in a season: at the start, based on final UCI Ranking of last season and mid-season around Christmas.
Or to organize an early season time trial round of the first profile, establishing the starting position for the first race and then do the UCI ranking.
Let me know if anyone has good ideas on this matter. For now, though, it's UCI Number for 1 - 3 and UCI Ranking after that

You could add a proportion of last years' UCI ranking points on to the full amount of points earned this season. Wouldn't need to be a huge percentage, even 10% would be enough to hold a similar order together for a few races, before the impact of this year's races takes over.

I'd like something like this, just start with the same then slowly blend into the new season rather than just keeping the exact order for three races before what could be a pretty sudden switch depending on results.

Sounds like a good idea.
Though I'm not liking the practical side. It would require lots of calculating on my behalf
Though perhaps I could make it work in Excel.
Anyway, I plan to stick with what I decided for this season. Unless everyone is against it.
Still, let me state that, in the first few races, the opening roads/paths are wide enough to let's say the starting positions in these first few races aren't as important as later in the season!

Would me pretty simple to do I would have thought. For doing say, 10%, you'd just have to add the following values onto this season's UCI points, and you would then have a start order to use.
Spoiler Dries Cornelis | 348 | Elliot Cook | 300 | Sylvain Lipawsky | 271 | Matt Mazzarelli | 247 | Shay Gormley | 246 | Francis N. Vague | 230 | James Carlisle | 227 | Hafthor Eldfjallsson | 221 | Michael Bollinger | 183 | Christian Schiltz | 159 | Ronnie Hira | 157 | Lachy Bauer | 148 | Mikel Hammarling | 147 | Arda Akdeniz | 135 | Gregory Bernard | 128 | Sven Welling | 127 | Tariq Faizullah | 126 | Naveed Alinejad | 120 | Rudy Verboven | 118 | Jack Smith | 98 | Nicky Van Drenthe | 89 | Timi Kokkonen | 88 | Kimi Hakinnen | 85 | Thijs Van Lookeren | 83 | Rik Van Fleming | 78 | Mustafa Moli | 76 | Andrew McLaughlin | 75 | Sven Van Vliet | 61 | Nic Hashir | 52 | Josiah Bennett | 49 | Frederick Muller | 49 | Max Power | 47 | Matthias Barthez | 47 | Blazej Dobransky | 46 | Jannik Stolz | 45 | Pierre Lipawsky | 44 | Ali Acord | 44 | Robert Wells | 41 | William Burbank | 37 | Matt Claveren | 37 | Alfonso Munoz | 35 | Lars Lejeune | 34 | Craig Hepptern | 31 | Lars Van Hennep | 28 | Guido Visconti | 26 | Ewan Wilson | 24 | Abdullah Saboor | 23 | Lue Khamse Khamphan | 21 | Pierre Lavigne | 21 | Marcus Flinch | 20 | Milan Vermeulen | 20 | Mohuti Sow | 19 | Vladimir Stoyevski | 18 | Tane Tahawira | 15 | Fred Markson | 14 | Philipp Smart | 12 | Ketso Tembi | 11 | Oleksandr Orlov | 11 | Mario Guido | 11 | Alexey Tesler | 10 | Artem Sakalau | 9 | Amadou Bakari | 9 | Nathan Starc | 8 | Pépé Renoir | 8 | Ricardo Vieto | 7 | Bert Vos | 7 | Eddie Goldenberg | 6 | Henry Georges | 6 | Farai Olujimi | 3 | Len Leye | 2 | Bohdan Honchar | 1 | Peter Christianson | 1 |

Oh, yes. You're right
Hmm, I'll think about it. Hope to hear some more people here on this idea and then I might use it even this season.
For first race it doesn't matter so we have a few days to settle it
Thanks for the input!

Me three. Think it makes sense, even if completely useless for young Camilo. Likely a good model for seasons to come as well - perhaps some debate on the % carried over in future after trial run this season??

Sounds good, guys.
What about this:
I'll use the UCI Points earned this season + 10% of UCI Points last season until the 10th race.
After that, the 10% gets dropped and it's all about what they've done this season.
This way, the riders profit from what they've achieved last season for 6 weeks (10 races) and they have plenty of time to earn their position again. From race 11 onwards, things shold've settled down and you shouldn't depend on last season anymore. After all, in sports it's always about now and the future. I wouldn't want riders to profit off their last season too long. If you're not performing well now, why should you still get front row, right?
Practically this would mean starting position is calculated by UCI Points + 10% UCI Points of last season for all the races up until Lancaster Challenge (not counting Perth). Antofagasta is the first race where the starting positions are determined by the UCI Points of this season.

The only way you'd be satisfied if I was to put them on the front row from the first race, admit it
Though I thought my alternative had something: for the first few races a pre-race time trial. One lap. The fastest riders start at the front etc.
That for 5 or 10 races or so, and then UCI Points.
But the 10% rules sounds more realistic
And don't forget, the young riders (and your Americans) have an extra race where to score points (Pert), so they could move up a bit in the classification there!

I am back.
Is there still time to send some sort of preset tactics for the first race Ian? I hope i will be able to post a role playing posts for both Jan and Karol today, but not 100% on that, asi have shitload of things to do at work and i was reading MG related posts whole morning.
I will get into it slowly. I have managed to read the preview and few posts in game thread at least, great job Ian and other guys!

Glad you enjoyed it, Avin
Game Thread is my favorite thread of the forum
You can still send in tactics, but the longer you wait, the bigger the chance it won't be taken into account for the result.
Expect the race either this evening (though I have to go at 8pm, so not sure) or tomorrow at the latest!
Also, see the Game Thread for the final compromise in starting positions!
