Vuelta Ciclistica a Burgos stage 4

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot002_zpsbecaeb39.jpg

Flat profile with steep hill at the end. Like stage 2 where Cobo took the win at the line.

We wanted to give us a break from chasing. Our young sprinter Smiryagin was the one who attacked.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot003_zpse81053ab.jpg

He was soon caught by 5 others.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot004_zps6cf585f7.jpg

Garmin, Astana and Rabobank came to front.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot005_zps66b45067.jpg

We thought it worked out but we soon realized they are not really chasing.
And with Kennaugh and Paulinho loosing just over 4 minutes on Cobo we had to do the pace again. They had 12 minutes on us.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot006_zps9b79d997.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot007_zps29c4dc48.jpg

After 70 kms the gap was only 3 minutes. Every domestique was empty.
Attacks occure at the front.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot008_zps57b1c310.jpg

Cyril Lemoine attacked Paulinho and Smiryagin were following.
It soon came to battle of two groups.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot009_zps42a53fb1.jpg

After 2kms just before second group was going to catch first group Smile
Smiryagin attacked he knew he can't do anything at the final steep hill.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot010_zps8d103fe5.jpg

Paulinho again caught up with him.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot011_zps2d654491.jpg

He wasn't cooperating and it was soon all back together. After a while Paulinho attacked again. Only Lemoine tried to follow. Smiryagin was empty.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot012_zps086c1ee4.jpg

Under one kilometer banner Kenaugh was just about pass Paulinho. Will he have enough energy?

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot013_zps487704fd.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot014_zps99bcee3e.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot015_zps87f40f5f.jpg

Yes. He won. 4 minutes later pack was about to sprint for 7th place we were badly placed.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot016_zps4df90008.jpg

And we could only finish on 12th and 13th place. But what is more important Kenaugh is now leading GC. 1 second in front of Paulinho and 25 seconds in front of Cobo.

Tommorow is decisive mountain stage. We are top favourites for the win there with me, Quintana and Cobo. It will be nice test for my legs before San Sebastian and of course before Vuelta.

Vuelta Ciclistica a Burgos stage 5

Final stage of the race. Let's see if we can deliver.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot001_zps32cf4311.jpg

8 riders where brave enough to open the day.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot003_zps5fe2fe28.jpg

Kennaugh is the leader and that means Sky can again show their dominant chase down train.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot005_zpsb84cf567.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot007_zpsb98dd6b4.jpg

When the first of two big mountains come Kruijswijk is the first one to attack.
He never created significant gap but he tried over and over again.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot008_zps49787444.jpg

Meanwhile that BOD was at the top of the first mountain.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot009_zps03c48aec.jpg

Sky turned on the jets and soon caught them.
This is how it looked from my perespective at the bottom of the second mountain.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot010_zps54b95b5c.jpg

Kruijswijk again attacking.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot011_zpsd8b47287.jpg

De Clercq leading the front group.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot012_zpse91ff5ca.jpg

Under 5 km banner I was trying to bring Cobo to front.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot013_zps2ee47851.jpg

After another 500 meters I attacked with Cobo sucked to my wheel.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot014_zpse627f61f.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot015_zps2a519f91.jpg

I tried my best but I lead him only for about 1km. Then he was on his own.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot016_zpsc5c75950.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot017_zpsf2850213.jpg

I managed to stay in the chasing group.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot018_zps75e16ae9.jpg

Cataldo soon breakaway from me and De Clercq. Cobo's gap was still growing.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot019_zpsb2d981ce.jpg

Meanwhile in the pack noobody was willing/able to chase.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot020_zps34edabd4.jpg

I tried to shake off De Clercq but he was strong today.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot021_zpsc4cc04ce.jpg

Cataldo wasn't able to bridge the gap. Cobo was just too strong for everybody in Spain.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot022_zps40e74870.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot023_zpsd9c76987.jpg

Cataldo took nice 2nd and I was about to sprint for 3rd place.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot024_zpsae9ea4db.jpg

De Clercq was fighting hard but he couldn't match my acceleration.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot025_zpsc07809c4.jpg

I easily took 3rd place.
Feillu took 5th place and finaly Kruijswijk came on hard earned 6th place.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot026_zps6b907bef.jpg

Kennaugh look really angry:

And Sky earned their team:

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/ScreenShot032_zpsaef35c30.jpg

This was a great stage race for team. I ended on a nice 12th place just 12 seconds behind Gasparotto. Now I'm off to 5-days training camp in Spain as preperation for San Sebastian. We will ride that stage many times and we will work out something.

Why is the podium in the jungle?

The picture from the bottom of the climb is wrong, I think, 2 times the same pic.

Ian: Thanks I didn´t noticed. Smile and don't ask me why is in the jungle. Ask cyanide Pfft

Classica San Sebastian preview

Hello everybody, after tough 5 days I finaly found some time to write you about tommorow classic.
Here is the profile.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot002_zps8465de50.jpg

If you want to win this classic you need to be good in both mountains and short steep hills. Or you need to make the most on the terrain you prefer.

Right from the start there are two steep and also quite long hills. Then there is probably the easiest part but still preaty tough. When we reach the halfway point the real race began. Two mountains with smaller steeper hills around them, riders like Visconti will have tough time geting through. Just before the end there is on small steep hill that can make a big difference. If Gilbert is still in the front group then it will be really tough to stay on his wheel.

Our Squad:

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot001_zps5ff2e73d.jpg

I'm listed just as a team-mate because Visconti has better form. It doesn't change much for me.

Plan: From the start we will try to save as much energy as we can. When the mountains come. Cobo,Me and Quintana will do the pace. We will try to shake of favourites like Gilbert or some really good punchuers but bad climbers. That also mean that we will lost Visconti. At the end it will be all about getting Alejandro in a good position before the last hill. Then it will be up to him.

Here are favourites for tommorow:

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot002-koacutepia_zpsef6e8a7f.jpg

Gilbert is listed as top favourite we will see if he is up to it.
Rodriguez is probably biggest threath for us if our plan succed.
Alejandro is having a great season he will try to take advantage of combination of punchuer but also great climber.
We will see if Visconti can overcome tough hills.
Van Awerment is here to help Gilbert we don't see him as a threath.

I'm really looking forward to race here. Report will come tommorow (literally) and I hope I will give you some great news.

Classica San Sebastian race

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot003_zpsf1458d8b.jpg

Not the biggest peloton (166 riders) started their journey in Salida.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot004_zpsd35a897c.jpg

From the start 2 riders got away.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot005_zps6cb3b398.jpg

They were soon caught by 2 others and created a BOtD.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot006_zpse3620bc8.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot013_zps3daf5357.jpg

I took it easy in the pack. I was perfectly placed behind Molina. We had a great talk through out the race.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot007_zps92b3fc96.jpg

A lot of teams were in front today. Their chasing was really organised.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot008_zpsad596ba7.jpg

When we reached the circuit breakaway had 7 minutes on the pack.
After few kilometers we were at the bottom of the first mountain. Karpets and Molina started to chase.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot009_zpsca055673.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot010_zps62bfd2f7.jpg

It didn't had the effect we expected as only 5 riders fall of the pack.
We let others do the pace on the flat part. They kept the pace quite high.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot012_zpsa4409ac9.jpg

When we reached the mountain for the second time. Karpets came to front and gave it a full throttle. He was done after 3kms and ''chaser of the year'' came on the scene. With Quintana in the front only the best could keep up.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot016_zps40d4c4c9.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot015_zps7f556350.jpg

We again let the Katusha and BMC do the pace on the downhill.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot017_zpsb21ddde3.jpg

When we reached the bottom Phillipe Gilbert started the real race with enormous acceleration.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot018_zps6b1f35f5.jpg

Rodriguez followed.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot019_zpsd1cee663.jpg

Our DS knew that it's too early and that we still have 4 guys cappable of chasing. Alejandro stayed calm and sent Cobo,Visconti and Quintana to front. My job was to stay with Alejandro.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot020_zps9266974d.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot022-1_zpseb6adc52.jpg

Meanwhile we were in front. Probabbly every team leader wanted to follow two top favourites.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot021_zps8c0147dc.jpg

They were cooperating really nicely and they soon overtooked the original BOtD.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot023_zpsc3d9372c.jpg

After 5kms only Gilbert and Rodriguez were in front.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot024_zps4a50ccde.jpg

Suddenly something happened. Cadel Evans attacked out of the pack.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot025_zps840bd194.jpg

What does he had on his mind. I don't know. But it surely didn't worked as we caught them all after just 2kms.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot026_zps104dc00c.jpg

Gilbert attacked again!

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot027_zpsa2a92b97.jpg

Rodriguez followed but this time I was on his wheel with Alejandro on mine!

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot028_zps962b1d1c.jpg

I couldn't keep up with Joaquin his attacks are just too strong!
I at least took Alejandro from the pack. I surely could done better job. But I'm still not in the best form.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot029_zps1df496cf.jpg

Then it was up to him. He turned thanked to me and than he turned on the jets.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot030_zps24b5f473.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot031_zpse641a465.jpg

He soon caught Gilbert and Rodriguez but as usually hapens leaders didn't cooperated well. Nibali and Contador caught them.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot032_zpsacb4be80.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot033_zps96d50dc6.jpg

And not even after 2 kms it was all back together. Meanwhile that I jumped in front of Visconti I tried to keep his energy as high as possible.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot034_zps3679e756.jpg

Gasparotto attacked. De Gendt and Visconti followed!

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot036_zps3641f802.jpg

But Evans was right behind Visconti and he never broke away. Evans soon caught also Gasparotto and De Gendt.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot037_zps0c6b8482.jpg

Gilbert attacked... Again!

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot039_zps0c08d462.jpg

Contador tried his luck too.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot040_zpsa078e424.jpg

But it always came back together.
After 2 kms of silent. Rodriguez attacked Alejandro and De Gendt followed.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot041_zps1ef929e5.jpg

With 4 kms they had 20 seconds on the pack.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot042_zps9e76480d.jpg

After 1km they were back in the pack and the sprint was about to begin.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot043_zps12ddb4f0.jpg

Valverde was blocked for a while and because of that he wasn't in a best position for a sprint.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot044_zpsc6acfc05.jpg
i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot045_zps6555f5b5.jpg

Kolobnev was leading the pack. But Vichot with Valverde on his wheel was coming fast.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot046_zpsb2688117.jpg

Vichot was leading the pack but Alejandro was in even better position.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot047_zpsae79ac61.jpg

From nowhere there was Clement and it became a battle for 1st between 3 riders. Or didn't it?

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot048_zps2283b409.jpg

Cadel Evans came with a speed of rocket and overtook everybody. Nibali was also coming fast on the right.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot049_zpsc0c72e11.jpg

Alejandro made his last kick and...

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot050_zpscb141a98.jpg

Who came 3rd?

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot052_zpsec97a49d.jpg

I came last from the front group. But it doesn't matter as Alejandro beat Clement on the line.

i1156.photobucket.com/albums/p575/JuanMotr/Tour%20of%20San%20Luis/ScreenShot051_zps1b0d869a.jpg

Cadel Enjoying his victory! He for sure deserved. Maybe only Gilbert deserved it more but it's in the team.
