Did anyone listen or buy Chinese Democracy ?

I have it, but have not listened to it yet.

Some one told me most of the songs are ballads.

The reviews I read are quite good, but I'm a bit uncertain about the new band around Axl... I'm still wondering wether I'll buy it or not.
Appetite for Destruction, Lies and Use Your Illusions II are my favourites, way above Use Your Illusions I and "The Spaghetti Incident ?"... If most songs are ballads it may rather sound like the three albums I like, I'll see...

I've heard 'catcher in the rye' or something like that and it's a bit of a ballad. but according to my friend slash is still there with his spontaneous sweeping. what has been the worlds most rumoured album has come out with less of a bang than originally intended

Slash is not there any more since 1996... It's Buckethead and some other nicknamed guy that play the lead guitar parts on the album, basically people who toured as Guns'n'Roses with Axl Rose since 1999.

Buckethead is awesome... But he's not Slash. And no i havent heard it yet. Im not sure my good music taste will survive if its a crappy album.

I was only vaguely aware of this thread before and now flicking through the comments was very interested to see the amount of muse fans here (I know they're popular but still...). I'm personally a massive Muse fan and watched them live (amazing!!!) in the NEC in Birmingham in November 2006. My favourite song is Butterflies & Hurricanes, but pretty much every song they produce is just great in different ways. Their new album should hopefully be coming out next year - looking on the official site Matt Bellamy seems pretty confident it cound be the best yet. Can't wait

Nightwish and Half Man Half Biscuit are two great bands also (Not in any way alike however).

Of course not. He's immensely better. Which guitarist is a better composer than Buckethead? NO ONE. simple.

Better composer ? That's a long and endless debate. I'm very fond of Keith Richards for example, he's (or was ?) surely a great composer, but his technical skills are... limited ? Especially with his fingers problems (arthritis, etc.).
I never listened to Buckethead that much, but from what I saw, I don't really enjoy him. He looks like the perfect cliché of über-technicity and lack of personality in his playing, I felt a bit like listening to Satriani or Steve Vai whilst hearing him, which are guitarists I don't enjoy.

It's difficult to explain though, and mostly a matter of taste.

True, but its subjective. Personally i quite like his somewhat lack of personality.

I feel exactly the opposite: that he's one of those rare breed of guitarrists who is as skilled as Satriani, Gilbert and Vai who ISN'T as unbelievably boring and as Satriani and especially Vai.

With those three (especially Vai) it's not about the melody....which is wrong on so many levels. Buckethead however is the opposite, I feel.

I feel composer is too wide really to have a best - guitarists like guilmour shouldn't be counted out as well.

Eric Johnson - a tit but a great guitarist - and of course Joe Bonomasso, who is very skilled and has a lot of emotion in his playing.
