Time's running out if we want to advance in the GC, so we need to make something happen here.

The Race

I was the best out of the peloton over the Cat. 1 - in 4th.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0479_zps0d7f68d5.jpg
Finally! A break got away, with 4 attendees.

They would avtually win it, too, with 7'21" on the peloton with 30km to go.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0480_zps679f3198.jpg
We caught Kocjan on the last climb, with Puccio just behind.

De Troyer of Accent-Jobs took the win.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0483_zpsb187ecfe.jpg
Atapuma was dead, so it looked like it would be me vs Kocjan for 5th.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0484_zpsf42b94c9.jpg
But! Puccio came in and stole it from me.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0485_zps10ca3e24.jpg
Again yellow changes hands.

Great win from Jure Kocjan on stage 4 Grin

And the team are riding really well in Britain too Smile

Cycleman123
Sutty: We're riding decently, and Kocjan is on form.

The last chance to change the GC. Stamina and recovery will show here.

The Race

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0488_zps35077340.jpg
The break today consisted of 6 riders, appropriate to the stage number.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0489_zps925833fb.jpg
Tiernan-Locke
Arashiro
Gorka Izagirre

were the first favourites to attack.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0490_zps9ee0c2d0.jpg
We tried to ride away from the peloton, but weren't strong enough.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0491_zps120a6a27.jpg
So, we attacked - Darwin in my wheel. We caught up to the favourites and kept going.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0492_zpsdacfd85d.jpg
However we couldn't make a gap to them. Tiernan-Locke tried his luck in the closing kilometres, trying to avoid a sprint.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0493_zps17576567.jpg
We were caught just as we started sprinting. The break was also in sight now, but they would win.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0494_zps1beb5f07.jpg
It was Degand who won it. Our best rider was Chaves, in 10th. I was 12, and Atapuma 13th.

I think that they gave the interns a try at snapping the pics today. At least Arashiro's flowers match the tree.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0497_zpsb291a7da.jpg

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0500_zpsd08abd7e.jpg
5 riders probably didn't see the profile. They formed the break of the day.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0501_zpsecc7b844.jpg
With a horrific pace, ALL of our riders were behind 13km from the finish line.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0502_zpsdd107997.jpg
Out of all the people to be dropped! Atapuma!

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0503_zpsa5252613.jpg
It looked like it would be a fairytale for Lobzen (TRS), but his long sprint just fell short of a miracle. Arashiro and van Staeyen were coming fast.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0504_zps6a287e65.jpg
And it was the in-form Japanese who would take it! Duque only managed 8th - but not too bad considering the circumstances.

But good news! Despite there being a definite gap, John Darwin didn't lose any time. Thank god for flat stages!

The Race

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0508_zps21875aa6.jpg
Unsurprisingly, only 2 men broke. However it did become 3 soon after.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0509_zpscbd2af39.jpg
Duque took van Staeyen's wheel. This was due to Romero being left behind. He only just got up for the sprint.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0510_zpsda7e6fdf.jpg
Inside 200m, Duque still had energy. Could he win this?

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0511_zpsd2a3b5bc.jpg

Virgilijus Grazhys was the team's best performer in:

GP Pantaloni | 49th @2'44"
GP Industria di Prato | 31st @ 1'06"

Carlos Quinero and Marco Corti are ill. The Italian will likely play no more part in the Colombia team, as he is leaving next year.

The Game Plan

DS Version: We're not looking for a great result here. I just want Fabio to get some race experience.

My Version: Since I'm leading, I can finally have that freedom that I like on the road, instead of having to wait for others. Hopefully I can impress the boss.

Goals

DS: Top 10

The Race

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0521_zps294b1834.jpg
We had 7 riders trying to escape today.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0522_zpsf2586e99.jpg
Valencia and I were the first to make gaps from the peloton. We rode away, with him taking the wind for me.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0523_zpsab30ab67.jpg
Chiarini (AND) had survived from the break. He was now joined at the front by World Champion Gilbert.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0524_zpsef553a57.jpg
With 4.5km to go, I was chasing, along with Tony Gallopin. Behind us was a star-studded group of favourites. Including Nibali, Rodriguez and Rodgers.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0525_zpse3c80db6.jpg
Now this is unfair. I was blocked by Chiarini just as the favourites started attacking. I had energy and could've kept up with them, but now my race was over.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0526_zps84fe0cce.jpg
Rodriguez took the win ahead of Nibali.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0527_zpsd9458818.jpg
I finished 9th. A good result in this star-studded field, but it could've been oh so different.

Leonardo Duque was our best rider in the:
Munsterland Giro | 58th s.t.
Tour de Vendee | 74th s.t.

Virgilijus Grazhys was our best performer in the Giro della Romagna, 50th @ 2'57".

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0529_zps08f4f41f.jpg
Fabio Duarte somewhat disappointed in the Coppa del Piemonte, but still got a decent-ish result.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0530_zps24773f10.jpg
Grazhys continued to impress, getting 11th in the GP Bruno Baghelli.

Michael Rodriguez has fallen ill.

Velo d'Or

It's that time of year again. The nominees for the Velo d'Or have been announced. It would've been good to have someone on our team nominated, but realistically that was never going to happen. The nominees are:

Alejandro Valverde --- Movistar
Bradley Wiggins --- SKY
Phillipe Gilbert --- BMC
Alberto Contador --- Team Saxo-Tinkoff
Edvald Boasson Hagen --- SKY
Vincenzo Nibali --- Astana
Mark Cavendish --- Omega-Pharma Quickstep
Chris Froome --- SKY
Joaquim Rodriguez --- Katusha
Carlos Alberto Betancur --- AG2R la Mondiale

Before I finish with this report, let me introduce something here. After the Chrono des Nations, then again after the Japan Cup, I will take 2 riders off the list of possible winners. Then, after the start of the season review, I will take off one more - leaving 5. The podium will then be announced.

The Race

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0533_zpsa8c05169.jpg
I was the first on the team to go. I had no reference as to where to go hard or how hard to go. This could be tough.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0534_zpsa5628a64.jpg
I was feeling on top form. I passed Bardiani's Christian Delle Stelle after just 27km.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0535_zpsbd437567.jpg
However I soon realised I started off too fast. I had to sit back a bit, but was still dead 2.5km from the finish.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0536_zpsfd1987b8.jpg
I still managed to finish in front of Christian, and somehow managed to come in provisional 7th! I was 3'11" down to GreenEDGE's Cameron Meyer.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0537_zps28109936.jpg
Grazhys started off very well, gaining 500m on the man in front of him and still staying within his energy limits. However, it all came unstuck on the 2nd climb. He completely lost it there, and we were left wondering what could've been.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/Fabio%20Melani/PCM0538_zps1bbba677.jpg
Meyer ended up taking it, ahead of teammate and compatriot Luke Durbridge. Unfortunately we did not get anyone in the Top 10.

Nice WC for Columbia (the country).
Unlucky in Britain and Milan-Torino.
Nice idea for the velo dor, so it won't be in game results, but your ones, never thought of that. That's quite a pace you went at!

No Velo For You!

I can confirm that neither Alberto Contador nor Phillipe Gilbert will be in the Top 3 of the Velo d'Or. The World Champion Gilbert wasn't able to do much else besides the Worlds, while Contador faltered in the Grand Tours and other big races.
