Will the final road stage of the race be drama free?



There was no break by the first intermediate sprint, so the sprinters got to contest it. Swift won ahead of Van Heerden and Mohs.

A break of 3 then became established: Hernandez Gutierrez, Janse van Rensburg, and Stalder.



They did not contest the sprints, but Stalder won the KoM of the day to move to joint 9th in that competition. It's the final climb of the race, confirming Jackson Rodriguez as the King of the Mountains for the race.

The break were caught with 6.5km to go.



And for the first time this race we will have a proper flat, head to head sprint.

Pokerstars have the early advantage with Kluge, Degenkolb, Mohs, Hoffman and Blythe.

Train number 2 is Merino Criado, Caethoven, Swift, Colbrelli, Howard, Bakelandts and Brus.

And the 3rd one is Vangheel, Jelloul, Van Heerden, Meyer, Vanoverschelde and Bonnet.



Pokerstars still lead when Degenkolb opens the sprint. Vesuvio still had both leadout men at this stage, and seem to have squeezed Simply Red Bull towards the barriers. There's lots of shuffling around between the riders behind those two trains as well.



Mohs then goes very early, with 1.7km to go. Turning himself into a leadout man for Hoffman?



Swift and Van Heerden wait before launching, but now it is Swift's turn to be blocked - by Degenkolb - while Jelloul has recoved to bring Van Heerden back into a competitive position.



Into the final kilometre, Mohs has been passed. Blythe is sprinting with confidence after his victory, but Hoffman is ultimately the faster sprinter.



Hoffman's hopes of a PT sprint win don't last long though, with Van Heerden and Swift coming charging through. The lead passes from one South African to another, as the South African rider managed to find clear air for his sprint just before Swift did.



And for once, a Simply Red Bull sprinter is able to hold their speed all the way to the line. Juan van Heerden wins the stage!



2nd place for Ben Swift - missing out on a win here in Germany then - while Bonnet came through to take 3rd.

Hoffman and Blythe took advantage of Pokerstars.com to take 4th and 5th, while Mohs eventually faded to 13th - even behind leadout man Degenkolb. This just has to raise further question marks about Mohs' ProTour sprinting abilities.
