Rest Day Round-Up

Contador v Dekker
This tour does look set to be Contador versus Dekker. The mountains come soon.

Flat tougher than seems

The long flat rated stages have been tough on the team, with only Millar and Contador regularly feeling strong and not drifting backwards a little. But at least Anton, Perez and Lloyd are better in the mountains.

Transfers

Incoming
After Bradley Wiggins, and Mikhail Ignatiev, the currently-injured Cadel Evans become the 3rd rider to confirm that he will ride for DFL Cyclingnews next season. The Australian is disillusioned with Rabobank who recently signed Levi Leipheimer and Mauricio Soler, having already got Thomas Dekker, Robert Gesink, and Vladimir Karpets.

Evans, 3rd place in last years Tour, has had a dismal 2008 with 5th in the Vuelta Murcia all to show for it and after only winning the Aussie championships in 2007 will hope that DFL can rejuvenate his career. He is currently recovering from a broken collarbone.

Bernald Sulzberger, DFL's current Australian champion is said to be delighted with the news.

Shock Exit
The DFL management where left shocked and bemused when Roger Hammond announced that he had signed for USA. The move lacks any sense since USA do not enter in any races.

Hammond had been looking around for other teams after DFL refused to offer him the Absolute Leader role which he wanted, insted offering the role of team mate.

T-Mobile
The Tour has shown that T-Mobile have far too many strong sprinters that they are simple unable to organise them well, but this has not prevented them looking to build a super team.

Both Danilo di Luca and Matti Breschel will ride in Magenta next season.

Milram
Milram brought in Steffen Wesemann this season for the cobbled classics but he failed to deliver, so they have tempted Stuart O'Grady away from CSC to join them. Wesemann has been sold to Liquigas.

This all means bad news for Cancellara, who has lost his main helpers on the cobbles.

Other Moves

Martin Mortenson joins CSC from Liquigas while David Arroyo will move from Caisse d'Epargne to Saunier Duval.

More Transfers

We've signed another Aussie! It's Matt Goss! He will join Cadel Evans and Bernard Sulzberger as the 3 Aussies on the team next season.

Meanwhile, Kirchen will move to Liquigas from T-Mobile

Let's get some Mountains soonPfft

Crommy
You've got a nice squad next season already Smile

emoticons4u.com/happy/042.gif

SportingNonsense
@Crommy: Ive got a few more targets aswell. Im mainly aiming for decent climbers now since I dont really have a lot of back up as this tour has shown. Anton is aiming at the Vuelta, Perez is in bad form having done the Giro, and Millar is aiming for races after the tour and only has 72 mo anyway.

Dan Lloyd has received a welcome stats boost though
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/lloydstats.png

Stage 11

Weve had the boring half of the tour, now its time for things to liven up
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance45.png

Somehow, possibly due to the early sprints, a group of 14 riders got clear. With 5 Cofidis riders including Duque and Farrar. Haussler, Hermans, Eisel and Allan Davis are also there.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance46.png

Despite not needing to, Duque would attack towards the top. Doing this he won the first 3 mountain spots
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance47.png

On the 4th of 5 climbs though, Heinrich Haussler attacked away adn Cofidis crumbled
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance48.png

But Haussler would not get the KoM points anyway as Efimkin and Simoni charged past at the top
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance49.png

At the foot of the final climb of the day Luis Leon Sanchez launched the attacks
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance50.png

Janez Brajkovic was the strongest rider
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance51.png

He kept his lead over the top and heading down the other side. Could he keep his lead to the finish?
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance52.png

Yup. Victory for the Slovenian champion.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance53.png

Efimkin took 2nd and with 3rd place, Contador earned a few more seconds over Dekker

I have been told that Contador does not have any difficulties to win TDF from 2010. We may expect a victory of him right now.
Good to see this story, keep on doing it. When will you get back, SportingNonsense?

Stage 12

i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance55.png

Turpin, Kolesnikov, Buffaz, Feillu and Lorenzetto were the breakaway. Turpin won the first KoM points.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance56.png

And on the 2nd climb, Turpin rode away from the other 4. He would go on to take first at the 3rd climb aswell.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance57.png

But on the fourth climb, Turpin struggled and fell behind his companions as Feillu took the points.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance58.png

Buffaz would have done enough to take the KoM jersey over from teammate Duque if it werent for a certain Dutchman who attacked near the top and worked a small gap on the descent: Dekker
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance59.png

He seemed determined to stay ahead, managing to evade the peleton and began to pull away a bit on the small-ish penultimate categorised climb (Which has a slight descent halfway up it). Contador waited until Andy Schleck attacked to counter, and although disrupted by that small descent, the pair got a minute over the peleton and came close to Dekker.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance61.png

But Dekker managed to keep a small gap over the duo that rose from 20 to fluctuating between 35 and 40 seconds. It stayed that way over this climb, down the descent and then all the way up the summit climb up to Grand Ballon
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance62.png

Dekker begins to fade as the finish draws nearer and the gap begins to lower
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance63.png

He does enough for victory but it is a satisfactory result for Contador as there ended up being no time gap - so Dekker only gained 8 seconds through time bonuses.
