Transfers

It may only be in the first 2 weeks of July, but DFL have already signed 2 new riders for the new season. I won't name them (feel free to guess) but ill give some clues.

One has been in good form this season and deserved to be in the Tour de France. But he was disappointed when this did not happen and was quick to sign for DFL next year. He celebrated his new contract by taking his 5th win of the year in the opening stage of the GP Joaquim Agostinho.

The other will receive a deserved chance to ride in the ProTour having ridden on a continental team in 2007 and 2008. He is very talented and already a national champion.

Hoy, McCann, Pollock, Haynes and Mouris will all be leaving the team at the end of the season.

In other news, Levi Leipheimer has signed for Rabobank.

Dekker can be dangoures if there is a lot of TT km, and i will gues of Kreuziger, and JAJ.

rjc_43
Noooooo, Hamish Haynes is leaving!?

Shocking!

I hope lots of Brits are on the books to be signed, and that the game actually generates some youth from Britain.

I once signed a monster rider from Britain in 2010, at 20, he had 65 Flat, 68 Mountain, 73 TT, 71 Hill and 72 Sprint. After 3 years, I won all three Grand Tour's with him (this is back when I played on hard). At that time he had 72 Flat, 77 Mountain, 82 TT, and 78 Hill, it was ridiculous (he must have had potential 8, but I never could check).

@rjc: Well, Haynes is pretty rubbish - and I need the space on my team!

@deadpool: I wish that rider was in my career Pfft

He must have had a big lead beforehand to still be in touch

great climbing

I'm pretty sure he meant 36 seconds.

Ah well, there goes one of my tenuous links to pro cycling then! ( i trained with him, i did!)

Ignatiev eh? Good catch! Though that is this years picture, stolen off their website, which means you have both PCM daily 08 installed and last years... how?! Or did you just change the photos for fun? Grin

Well Tinkoff were one of the teams I did the photobacks for for the PCMdaily DB. So although I dont have the PCMdaily db installed, I do have the rider photos from the pictures I collected.

Stage 6

A peculiar stage today which shows that I should pay a bit more attention. Other than just going at 8x once the break has formed until the closing 20km of the stage.

There was some headwind about today, and the pack was stretched out
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance26.png

And suddenly, 26 riders achieved a gap
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance27.png

The gap grew and was at 6 minutes with 60km to go - this is when I first noticed it Shockops:
The group was now down to 16 and contained a strong Lampre and Quick Step presence including Bennati, Napolitano, Boonen and Bettini
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance28.png

Karpets had been the best placed GC rider just under 5 seconds down, but he dropped off the group along with Barredo and Posthuma when teammate Freire was dropped. However, the gap of the lead groups and rabobank group grew and Karpets has become the race leader on the road.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance29.png

I was previously happy to let the group create a huge gap, cause it did not matter. But with the Karpets danger, Lloyd, Oliphant, Hoy and Stevic came forward to relay.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance30.png

Cofidis, Credit Agricole and Milram later helped out and the Karpets danger ended although Boonen and Bennati will still likely decide the stage.

And these 2 riders were at the forefront as the group began to splinter with 25km to go
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance31.png

And the two sprinters became the lead group. Gusev tried to come across to them but could not. So who would win the sprint? Boonen has the advantage since he forced Bennati to lead out.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance32.png

So it was no surprise when Boonen came past and won

Stage 7

Classified as hilly due to an uphill finish, Farrar went in the breakaway and won all 3 intermediate sprints. He and Vaugrenard still had a decent gap with 7km to go.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance34.png

By the final kilometre, Farrar had dropped Vaugrenard
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance35.png

The American takes his 2nd stage win and will move into the points jersey
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance36.png

Vaugrenard is passed by the leading riders in the peleton so does not take 2nd. Instead it is Popovych.

Stage 8

Stevic took a risk and went with the breakaway
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance38.png

But it didnt pay off as they were caught with 17km to go.

Mark Cavendish is a rider who has been poorly treated by T-Mobile. Despite being on paper their strongest sprinter, he is force, along with Eisel another strong sprinter, to do relay work as Greipel and Ciolek would be the days sprinters. But the germans cant even get well positioned as Cavendish ends up leading the sprint.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance39.png

But having wasted energy for his team, he has no chance as Haussler leads a few other riders past. Who will win the stage?

Stage 9

The sprint will be uphill and thats clear to see as Eisel is T-Mobiles sprinter today. Ciolek leads him out
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance42.png

Duque and Gasparotto are dangerous going into the final kilometre on the 8% rise, but Popovych is flying!
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL2/tourdefrance43.png

If the finish kept on an 8% gradient, Popovych may well have been won but it flattened out allowing Duque to power across the line.
